Here watching the rugby, nice spot more a 3.5 but you know how it is 3 to low and 4 a bit high. Great basic bar food with good service
I came to Joe’s Garage for lunch and I got the eggs (scrambled) with toasted sourdough and smoked salmon. The wait time was a bit long, which is something I realised is a common trend in Queenstown so it may just be a slower pace life compared to Auckland. The portion was filling and the portion of smoked salmon was very generous (5 slices). The eggs weren’t overly buttery or greasy, which I really appreciate.
Great little place
Tucked away a little from the crowd
Service was quirky but efficient
The coffee good
Food was substantial and full of flavour
This is definitely worth a visit when in town.
Great hidden lil spot in the center of Queenstown. Great coffee, delicious foods especially the bacon on mash dish but all are as tasty.
Prices are okay. Serving sizes aren’t the biggest but are still filling.
Great friendly staff and such a warm and cosy interior.
I can’t understand why this cafe isn’t the best rating cafe in queens town yet, but it absolutely will be! Nice food and staff, strongly recon the chicken burger!
If you need coffee when every other cafes are closed, this place is the go-to for a coffee rescue (as the sign says). Nice dim decor and good coffee!
Prepare to wait. Its a small cozy place with "some" seating space indoors. However, they also have ample outdoor seating with heaters to warm you up. They also let you sit on the bar stools at the counter while you sip your coffees and wait for your order.
The serving time is fast. So once you get a table, things move really fast. You get served fast. You eat fast (food is yumm) and you get out fast to leave the table for the waiting queue.
I had the oppurtunity to dine there twice ( lunch once and breakfast the other time ). I was not disappointed any time. The food is made with love and is so full of flavor. Had the mince on toast, porridge, and chicken burger. Cant fault anything. However, the coffee..... lets just say I have had better. But the food.... yummmmmm.
Pricewise: $55 for 2
Returns: must
We went here for breakfast and the food was above average. I had the porridge and the wife had the burger 😂 all we can say is that the porridge was lovely but the burger can be topped better. We will definitely come back again the next time we are in Qtown. Oh and the service was great too! They put us outside at first, which was a terrible idea since it was freezing cold that morning. But we got moved inside at the first opportunity and got catered all around that morning. Top stuff guys
First time in Queenstown and if you are after a real hearty breakfast to kickstart your day, this is the place to be! Very cosy, friendly staff and loved the details and designs. So many yummy options on the menu to choose from. I know for sure which ever one you decide on, it won't disappoint you.
Very average food. If you’re coming from Melbourne you should probably lower your expectations on brunch in all of NZ tho. What makes me give the better number is the service! Would love to become a regular here, they are all super friendly and will start up a conversation about anything. The coffee was alright as well 😎 I had the veggie burger and it tasted as if I would’ve made it back home, which in this case is a good thing. (I didn’t bother taking a photo..) You could tell everything was made from scratch. My friend had the toast which was a bit burnt but it was fine. Honestly the homey feeling and the service made up for it all :)
This place was buzzing when we entered for coffee, but we were quickly seated & served by the vibrant crew! It has a cool vibe about the place & they serve good basic Kiwi tucker. The brownies are especially comment worthy & the coffee is also good & our flat whites came out quickly hot & strong
Joes is like a dirty LA dinner with a Kiwi twist.
The head honcho is a guy who's drier than a NZ weet-bix, but a great host!
Food is great, service slick and coffee is grouse.
If in QT Joes is a must!
Went here for breakie on Sunday morning. This place is pretty busy and down a little side alley. Friendly customer service. Food and drinks were served promptly. Premises was very clean inside and out.
Bustling local cafe - mainly upbeat because of its lovely, upbeat staff who made it a real pleasure to dine here! Came for breakfast - the food served is well executed and delicious. Portions are nice and decent for the price. We actually came back to revisit before we left Queenstown since this was perhaps the best feed we had whilst down here!
Joe's Garage is the best garage in town to get ur engine services and going!
The place is unique and vibrant, service was excellent. The food was super yummy!! Love the sausages !
Great coffee too!!
Best cafe in Queenstown and by far the best coffee! Delicious breakfasts, funky cafe, great service and unreal coffee. Always busy and for good reason, definitely worth the brief wait for a table! What more could one ask for before a day on the slopes !?
Can't wait to come back next year
Fantastic fun place for breakfast. Great food, interesting menu, terrific friendly staff and top coffee. Why settle for a Luke warm overpriced hotel buffet breakfast. Highly recommended
Heard great things about this place and decided to give it a try. We were seated at the bar and were able to watch all the action.
I ordered the 'Gorgeous George' which was described as smoked salmon, fried eggs on hashbrowns with hollandaise sauce. It was tasty, but the hashbrown was just chopped up potatoes. BF had the local which is a big breakfast. It is huge but ingredients were of top quality. The staff are really funny and enjoy a bit of banter with their customers. Their coffee is hands down, the best in Queenstown.
The place is awesome, staff as well. Very friendly, best coffee I had in Queenstown so far. The "local" breakfast is perfect, a really big breakfast that will fill you up with good things. So is the muesli, more healthy and very tasty.
We had a voucher and glad we came here. The food was good and tasty, perhaps it would have been good to have a little more chicken in the salad. The service was good too.
The perfect comfort-food breakfast cafe for after a big night out or a big day ahead. A decent sized menu with items that are familiar but still different. I ordered a flat white and a latte where the milk was slightly scorched but still delicious. The portion of the meals were very generous and the Joe's hash (basically crushed baked potatoes) with the fried eggs (instead of poached) were welcomed changes to what is otherwise a bacon eggs benny.. Very satisfying.. There are some healthier options on the menu but coming to Joe's is more about deliciously rough diner style food in my opinion..
The best service and best food for breky in Queenstown. You can't come to Queenstown and not eat here...... Every day. I wish I could comment on one dish... They all look incredible. Looking round the room I have food envy for almost every dish. The vibe is incredible and the owner is the most engaging and awesome bloke out. Shame he's from Rosmini high in Auckland but no ones perfect.
Went here for a late lunch with a friend today. The place itself is really funky, has awesome decor. They have definitely spent some time on it. As for the food I found it 50/50. I had the Brat and my friend had Gorgeous George. Hers was really nice where as mine was average. The service isn't that great either, they don't really check on you other than to take your order. Probably wouldn't come back for lunch.
Cool spot, great coffee and food. Very much for the backpacker set, not so much families. Very crowded and busy with a great underground vibe.
Such a nice little place. If you're looking for a place for breakie in Q-Town then look no further. The decor is good, with it looking like a classic American diner. We sat at the bar area where we got to watch the chef make our food. The coffee was excellent. They didn't charge us extra as a public holiday. The meals are just under $20 but are pretty sizeable. Well worth it!
Joe's does what it does very well. A diner-style breakfast joint, unsurprisingly always full. Consistently great over the years, and did not disappoint when revisited after a gap of a few years.
We popped in here for breakfast and it was packed but the guy came and encouraged us to wait while he sorted seating as others were nearly finished .... Service is great and friendly.... Breakfast was worth the wait... Bacon crispy and yum the crumble was delicious... A must to try place
Great American diner style cafe with bar front and communal seating.
Big portions of food and pretty affordable pricing.
Love the decor and the use of tools to make it feel like a garage.
Cool concept, definitely check it out!
Best Tip: Prebook for groups bigger than 6 people as this place can fill up fast and you don't wanna have to takeaway your hot meal.
Best Bite: The Joe's Joker Roll is exactly what you wanna be getting here, it is exactly what you'd expect a big bad Joe to love.
When they started out fourteen years ago they operated from the sorting room in the old post office. Nowadays the digs are a little more advanced and it’s a magnet for the breakfast/brunch crowd.
Great coffee, tasty foods.
Great for coffee and a relaxing breakfast chilled and relaxed
Nothing flash but the service is friendly and venue quaint. Not a bad little bar/pub to stop into
Trust the locals. It's a good sign when the Queenstown locals come to Joe's. You could tell a lot of the customers were regulars and the staff were chatty and setting a good vibe. Coffee was rock solid and breaky menu is great. The porridge was spot on served with crushed nuts, banana, brown sugar and I asked for a side of yogurt. All worked perfectly together. The breakfast crumble was also a good dish. One of the best places to chill and read the paper, chat or hit up the free 30min wifi. Can't wait to get back there!
Breakfast must do. Down the lane and clearly locals love the coffee by the number that dropped by for takeaways, but we had breakfast and the porridge, breakfast BLT and French toast were really really good. Loved the decore and the soundtrack, we heard good things from friends from Brisbane who obviously have been here quite a few times.
From the moment I found Queenstown about 6 years ago, I was introduced to Joes, some great service, people serving you with great smiles. Weather your off skiing or just relaxing, go get the best coffee In town, a nice warm joes roll, my favourite is the Brat and Sweetie. Enjoy the company of the great people. Meet your friends there or meet new friends. Stunning little gem in the heart of Queenstown.
One of Queenstown's favorite cafes Joe's Garage serves up numerous variations of bacon and eggs - normally on a bun. The menu has expanded since I last visited but I can't seem to get past the sweetie roll (with added cheese). The coffee is excellent and the service always seems to be friendly.
One of the other great things about the place is the counter seating which is a great way to spend some time sipping back a coffee. I wonder why more New Zealand cafes don't follow this American diner tradition?
If you are in need of a coffee fix or something to get you going in the morning definitely try out Joe's or alternatively Vudo Cafe.
The food was good but pricing was way higher for a such a small portion! Friendly staff but long waiting time for our order to come through despite not being so busy!
Grabbed a traditional burger for lunch 30 mins before closing.. quiet and had the place to myself despite the massive crowds in town for school holidays. Super friendly service and great food.. has long been my fav haunt in Queenstown.
We visited this cafe/bar many years ago for coffee & decided to return. Different crew to the ones I remember, but the coffee was still ok. Still the same laid back vibe inside, lots of retro bits & pieces on the shelves & hey ...they still have newspapers to read !!

You can definitely find great coffee here. Looks like a nice place to have breakfast too.
Joe’s Garage is American-style diner serving hearty breakfast fare, conveniently located within the QT city centre.
We’d stopped by Joe’s for an early breakfast, where we got the Bacon & Eggs ($19.80), comprising two scrambled eggs on toasted sourdough with streaky bacon and hollandaise sauce, and the Gorgeous George ($22.50), which is similar but with fried potato spuds instead of toast.
The food and the coffee do the job, nothing more and nothing less. The scrambled eggs are thick and creamy, while the bacon is generously-portioned and tasty.
Service is really warm and friendly.
Can’t fault this place. We randomly chose a spot for dinner based on its menu. Ordered the lamb rump and Moroccan lamb and were absolutely delighted. Service was friendly with a good vibe. This place doesn’t have the “must visit” reputation, but with meals like we had, probably should.
Stepping into Joe's Garage is like stepping into your mate's flat. He cooks you breakfast and makes you a quick cuppa, it feels homie and has a lot of love in it. Unfortunately your mate doesn't make the best coffee and is on a budget. Portions could be more generous, he makes up for it with his amazing service. The fries were well seasoned and are a definite 5 star. See you soon Joe.
Looked it up on Google for somewhere for breakfast and the reviews where good. Turned up and the place was busy. Love the setting, simple stuff on the menu which I think is a great thing. Service was quick, meals came up quickly and coffee was great. I'd go as far as saying this was one of out best places to eat while in Queenstown. Hope to come back soon and give it another shot.
We arrived and where greeted by two very friendly staff. The coffee was amazing and fast to arrive, we had a smiling Japanese waitress who took our orders quickly and made us a little warmer on these cold winter days. Would recommend as a great place to get breakfast and enjoy a quirky and well maintained facility. Will come back before I go home. Thanks for the memory!
It was a cosy place for breakfast on a miserable rainy Queenstown morning. Their eggs and toast were fantastic, however, the coffee was just average. I like my coffee hot and strong, it was neither. If you like a hearty breakfast, you'll enjoy the food here, onlythecoffeelet it down. Overall, a good choice for a morning meal.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff.
Went there on a Sat morning and managed to get seats for two families. Felt really cosy inside with people just enjoying their Saturday morning.
Staff came along regularly to check on us.
Tried ‘The Local’ which had all sorts of goodness like bacon strips, spuds, eggs..
Kid friendly too with a menu for your little ones!
Nice place, well hidden,
Very busy and popular.
Service was ok, considering how busy it was. This was off season so no idea what it’s like when it’s on .
I enjoyed my coffee and bacon roll.
My partner was un impressed with her egg. Felt it was too chewy and hard. I’m not an egg eater so can’t comment
Authentically South Island - cheerful, no-nonsense food with a great rock soundtrack. Always busy for brunch and lunch, always fun, with a buzzy cafe vibe and the coolest customers and staff in town.
Get the bacon, egg and bratwurst bun. It's the best hangover cure ever. You can thank me later.
