The food was well prepared and in great portions! Service was excellent, the waiters were extremely helpful and friendly.
We ordered samosas and onion rings to start, korma and tikka masala to follow. Absolutely amazing. Probably one of the best indian place we have had so far. Staff was attentive and food came out at a reasonable pace. Will visit again when we come to rotorua
Been here before the Anzac day - the restaurant was full even it was already 8pm! Luckily we got a table quickly - however we think we came at the wrong time - waited for more than 30 minutes for food.
Butter Chicken is a must try - its just great with rice!!!! Chicken Tikki Masala doesn't disappointed us too. However the Masala beef is not really impressive - recommend to stick with the chicken dishes!
Im into buttered chicken, and here in indian star you can dine and takeaway delish dish. Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Recommended!
Delicious Indian food. Must have the butter chicken here and their garlic naan. We've also had their beef madras which was also delicious!! Their paratha was not too bad, a bit dense but still flaky. Good attentive service here too.
We had been to NZD last year.... and visited this amazing restaurant..... staff members were very very friendly...... I don't remember that person's name, but he is from north India and is manager of this place..... he is such a sweet person.... hospitality.... food.... ambience.... everything is nice over there.... πππ»ππ»ππ» I recommend everyone to visit this place βΊ thank you Indian Starππ»
Great food and service. Rotorua has some nice options of Indian food and Indian star tandoori is definitely at top of that list. Consider the mad rush of labour day weekend we were surprised how well they managed to find room for all the guests.
This Indian restaurant is located in the heart of the city in a multi cuisine, western style open food Street. The location is attractive and has amazing ambience, even during weekdays you will see lot of tourists coming for a great meal.
Restaurant Ambience is good with multicoloured lighting, instrumental Indian music in background and few indian sculptures.
Service was very efficient with no delays in order and someone always there to attend to you.
For entree we ordered chicken tikka and lamb seekh kebab. Both had amazing taste. Seekh kebab was fabulous.
For mains we ordered chicken balti, butter chicken and lamb in green curry. Again, the restaurant smashed our taste buds. All mains were super tasty. My cheese naan had generous amount of cheese which was tasty by itself.
One of the tastiest indian restaurant I've been to in New Zealand.
Tip: if you are a first timer try either of the starter depending on meat preference and for mains chicken balti with naan is great.

Great service all staff were friendly. The butter chicken was really tasty I really enjoyed my meal. I will go back again and also recommend to others.
What a memorable meal! The Indian Star absolutely lived up to its favorable Zomato rating.
Our Lamb Korma was delightfully creamy, well-seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection. The Paneer Makhani was also delightfully flavoured with a great depth of flavour. Both were skillfully executed and the Garlic and Cheese Naans which accompanied or dishes were also excellent.
The restaurant itself is well presented, Lively and comfortable and the service was attentive, professional and efficient.
Bookings for dinner are highly recommended - this restaurant is busy and it's not hard to see why. This was one of the best Indian meals I have ever had.
The food is amazing. My favorite is the mango chicken and the naan is crispy and so good. Service is really good also. Highly recommended for indian food lover :)

Gorgeous if you are a fan of authentic Indian foods
From spices to beautiful service to absolute 5 star quality with great affordability and enough to make you roll like a ball then this place will do that and more absolutely Devine!!
This is like the first place you see on Eat Street, but look no further. This place serves some amazing North Indian food, infact better than many restaurants back in India as well.
The service is quick and courteous. The ambiance is pretty cool.
We ordered some Paneer Kadhai and Stuffed Kulcha and it blew our minds off. It was so authentic as if we're eating in North Indian Amritsari Dhaba. There are plenty of vegetarian options here as well and its not heavy on the pocket as well.
A great place to dine at, don't miss this restaurant if you're in Rotorua.
Being Jain, they were able to serve us a fair amt of items. Taste is nice for Indian food in a place like Rotorua. The restaurant is on the eat street which is the hub for restaurants there. Overall good and would recommend it to anyone Jain.
While my visit I tried this place multiple times and it always had that consistent quality and good taste. The ambience is average but the food taste is good and that is what is expected to have from indian restaurant outside India.
Great food. The Lamb Rogan Josh is great, pilau rice amazing, the parantha and naan breads were first class. Best Indian food I have had in NZ π
Enjoyed the food with the family for dinner. Butter chicken mild was a bit too sweet but the chicken tikka masala medium spice and medium fish Malala were very tasty. The interior is a standard dodgy chair/wallpaper style but that doesn't matter as the waiters are very helpful and service was great. Food came in a timely manor and we enjoyed the dinner.
Absolutely adore this place. Have tried this place twice - the first time we dined in on a week night. The restaurant was completely booked out and there was a queue for tables - it was clear why. The food was sensational, perfectly spiced, well cooked and fresh. The service was fantastic too. On a recent work trip to Rotorua, I recommended this place to many and also ordered a take away for myself. It had been about a year since my first visit and the food was still as brilliant as I remember. I walked in to collect the food and yet again, the restaurant was full - always a good sign! Thoroughly recommend, wish I could find an Indian restaurant this good in Auckland!
Well this will be an anniversary to remember.... From the moment my husband and I walked thru the door, till we left we thoroughly loved this whole experience.
The staff are very friendly and guide you well on ordering. We had the Tandoori Combo Entree of chicken tikka, lamb seekh kebab, vegetable samosas, mix pakoras, very nice to start the meal. Mains we had a Devine Butter Chicken & Chicken Saag with Basmati Rice & Garlic Naan. We thought we had already experienced the best Indian foods in the 10yrs we have enjoyed this fine cuisine. But tonight we found the best the awards they have won are well deserved. We left feeling very full and had to walk round the block to walk some of it off. Many Thanks and please move to Auckland....

kind and friendly staff ........food was excellent with right blend of spices....love to visit again on next trip to rotorua...keep it guyz .....
Place looks really cool. Food is average, i mean its good but we asked for hot curry and it was very mild. Fish combo platter was awesome. Will definitely come back.
For the last three times I've been to Rotorua me and my family have eaten at Indian star the food is excellent well presented, good vibe, nice and clean and very good service.
One of the greatest butter chickens I've ever eaten.we well always
Return keep up the good Indian star.
April 27th, 20016....well pretty much 2 years to the day, and this place still rocks...we stopped coming back here the last couple of visits to Rotorua as we felt we should try other establishments, however tonight the Thai place close by didn't give off a good vibe (dead empty), so reluctantly came back here. The butter chicken and lamb korma are still the best and the mixed veggie dish was also enjoyed with rice for 3 (along with a garlic naan, soft drinks and Kingfisher beer) - great service and for about $76.00 awesome value for money; free chocolate bar for the kids on paying at the till just capped it off. I'm not surprised these guys are still around and winning awards - good stuff.
We were seated very promptly and were then a subject of a production line of waiters each providing something for the table - water, menus, cutlery etc.
It got very busy very fast and our entree of a mixed platter was quite good. We both agreed we had had better sizzling platters but it still tasted nice.
When our mains were delivered I discovered I had been given the wrong meal, and as it was so busy it took some time before I was able to get the attention of a waiter. However once the manager was aware of the situation my curry was changed very quickly with much apology. Luckily the curries tasted amazing and we were disappointed that the sub-par entree had filled us up too much to finish our mains!
The toilets were clean and tastefully decorated with marble tiles. The owner/manager Ray was very friendly and pleasant too.
Overall, I wouldn't really recommend the sizzling mixed platter, but I would definitely return for the curries! We had the saag gosht and lamb nawabi and they were both delicious (we are regular curry eaters). One thing I would mention is that my "medium" curry was pretty spicy. I didn't mind as I like hot food but if you prefer not to need to blow your nose during your meal, maybe go for mild :)
If you wanna have a taste of india...have a meal at Indian Star...prompt servie and superb food quality!!!! even the prices are very modest.
We visited Rotorua from Auckland for a few days and found this gem. Unbelievable service, the food was probably the best Indian food I've ever had and I eat a lot Indian food. One of the waiters even drove us back to our hotel. Prices were very modest. I would have paid more for the amazing experience we had. We will definitely be back. Thank you Indian Star so much.
Simply THE best Indian food I have had in New Zealand. Portion sizes and huge and well priced when you finally manage to pick from the wide variety on offer. The owner is so charismatic and works the room like a pro.
There's a reason this is the only restaurant in Rotorua that you have to queue for...go there before very one hears about this hidden gem!
We dined here on Thursday evening and we both can understand how it got it's great award and reputation.
We ordered the Tandoori sizzling platter as a starter. Everything was very well cooked and delicious.
We also ordered the pickle and chutneys which were fantastic addition to our naan and both our curries were fabulous.
The all male staff were very friendly and helpful. My husband enjoyed trying "Cobra" beer.
All in all a great place and well worth a visit.
The decor is a little dated and brightly lit however the food makes up for it.
This restaurant deserves every award and great review it has received.
It is so good that I drive across from Tauranga just for a meal here.
Every time I have come here the food has consistently been outstanding. The banquet is fabulous and I highly recommend it; however my personal favourite on the menu is the Prawn Malabari - wow! You can tell that the chefs really love producing top quality meals, again and again.
The service cannot be faulted - AJ's friendly helpful nature is lovely and the owner Ray is charming.
Sounds "gushing" I know, but this restaurant really is that good!
So many Indian restaurants to choose frm in vegas, we were so glad we chose this one. We were seated instantly and had food in front of us before drinks. We ordered the banquet and it was WOW. Loved it. So much food, we could not eat it all and felt a bit offensive for that. But had great ambience and amazing service. Amazed at how quick they were. Loved it!
This is the best Indian food I have had in New Zealand hands down. Several people I had spoken to said we had to come here. Couldn't fault any of the dishes - when we got too excited and ordered too much the waiter was more than helpful when he could easily have let us waste money. They have a small bar but it is BYO as well.
All the curries were superb as were the breads.
Place was a bit brightly lit for my liking but absolutely packed on a Sunday night - seemed to have many families there so guess they are fine to change heat in dishes - we like them hot!
Go there ..
Luvlly jubbly! Oh what a joy, finally after many years of searching we found an Indian restaurant in New Zealand that comes up to anywhere near as good as any in the UK. The chicken balti was pure heaven, with no scrappy bits of gristle and bones. The food and service was fabulous.
We go here every time we come to Rotorua, who wouldn't ? Fabulous food, lots of it, really authentic and excellent quality ingredients, chicken breast instead of thigh :-) service is really good as well.
realy nice food, good service, we will go back
Fantastic food. I am a diehard fan of this place. My mouth is starting to water just thinking of it. If there is better indian food on planet earth then you probably need to go to india to find it. extremely good food.
This restaurant is consistently brilliant. I have travelled the world eaten Indian food everywhere and this is simply the very best. The tandoori chicken, cheese naan, rogan josh lamb, service everything- OMG my mouth is watering thinking about it. I now live in Perth was recently back in NZ for 11 weeks and had maybe 12 meals back at my old favourite and only I wish they would set up a world wide franchise !!! If you love the very best Indian ever you will love it.
Very friendly staff and excellent food. My family eats here often and always bring any visitors here when we want to treat them to a night out in Rotorua. Like the pavement dining option.
Love the takeaways too!
Best Indian ever, get the the mixed entree its great, Go there all the time with my family for birthdays etc.Have been going there for years and the service and food quality is always very good. The onion barja is excellent. The restaurant is well presented and has just been recently refurbished. The bathrooms are new and clean. The staff are the best they make your visit a pleasant experience.
Delicious foods with good wok aroma. We all loved it. Butter chicken, curry cauliflower, lamb rogan josh, alog gobi rice, and etc , were all tasty. Wonderful! Enjoy! (2023-11)
So glad I chose to eat here among the many good restaurant choices in the area. I love Indian food and often eat it when I travel.
The chicken biryani at Indian Star is one of the best chicken biryanis Iβve ever had. The flavor profile is complex, with a perfect amount of spice and a generous portion of tender chicken.
Very nice ambiance with lovely decor, good value prices and friendly service too!
One of the best Indian Vegetarian food we had. Great service, Great quality, best hygienic, we came here all the way from Hamilton and it is worth it. Highly recommended to everyone.
Customer service was exceptional ππ
The reason for the 4-star rating is because we waited for ages when the restaurant was not fully occupied or very busy.
Other than that, went above our expectations.
Every time I come to Rotorua for a getaway, I proactively add this place as a go-to on my itinerary. The restaurant is great, the service is great, the food is great. Chicken Korma and Tikka Masala are great options here (get them medium spicy for that nice spicy kick!). If you have space in your belly, add in the vegetable samosas.
The Indian Star is my favourite Indian restaurant in Rotorua by far. The food is absolutely amazing! The ingredients were very fresh, the portions are large, and the price was great. The Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka are particularly tasty. The atmosphere and service were a solid 10/10. The waiter we had was extremely knowledgeable with what to do in Rotorua (as we were just passing through on our way up north) and that was much appreciated. Thanks again Indian Star!
Terrific dinner for two in Eat Street. We enjoyed saag paneer, chicken biriyani & a peshwari naan. Highly recommended.
Ordered first time from this restaurant.
From phone order to pick up, very professional( don't get that much in Auckland)
Food was hot and flavoursome.
Ambience was great. Very nice and spacious. Will definitely come back for dine in next time.
Ate at the Indian Star in eat street Rotorua and it is so good honestly, the food and service is so good and such a nice environment there was a water feature next to me, really nice, would 100% recommend i love it so much
The food was absolutely scrumptious. I would highly recommend this place if you're in the area. We got the chilli mushroom and chilli chicken for the entree. For someone who doesn't like mushrooms, I loved the chilli mushroom. For main, we got Kadhahi chicken, malai kofta, saag paneer and chicken biryani. I loved the malai kofta.
