Took the family to surf and turf restaurant in my home town Ruakaka had a wonderful meal in pleasant surroundings chef Warren served us delicious food cooked exactly how we wanted it. The restaurant which is part of the Ruakaka Tavern although operating kind of on its own was quiet so I suggest all locals call in and have a great meal and take the kids who are catered for on the menu and enjoy. And if you're driving past on state highway one turn onto Port Marsden road go past the shopping center next left and you are there. And as I always say you will be made to feel most welcome
Initial thoughts were the place was a bit rough and not much to look at. It is very much sports bar.
However the food is the same they provide for the restaurant which was closed at the time and it was really good with great a great portion size.
I had the Tomahawk steak and my partner had the chicken salad, both were great and plentifully not to mention great value for money, staff were really friendly and accommodating.
Recommended.
Lovely people, friendly.tasty food. Highly recommended. The most versatile and friendly staff. Chef even made a special broth for a friend with special dietry needs

The menu here is amazing! So many options and beautiful presentation! And our server MC, was so attentive, friendly and made some top notch drinks! If I could give six stars, I would. Will be back for sure, keep up the great work!

. I was really surprised by the whole deal. Atmosphere was great and so was the service. The best part of all was the food and the price. Great food and great value. We will be back.
Went there to vet on the Melbourne cup. Had one beer whilst marking card. Tab lady helped me do bet as not a regular horsey person. I hear the food there is great. Can't wait to try them out
Food was great, had the curry again, other boys had the steaks all was good, service with a smile and a good game of rugby to seal the deal. Locals very friendly
Tomahawk steak was great, waitress were very pleasant, drinks very good. I would give the banana dessert a miss. Might try the Cheesecake next time.
Bar snack dumplings were much better than expected, friendly helpful bar staff, a couple of pretty good pool tables, and supercharger on tap.
Great meals and lovely service the girls did a fantastic job ,I will be back

(Edit* I should have put this review under Ainga restaurant. Still great though.) This restaurant is the definition of "don't judge a book by its cover". Prompt, friendly, service, good beer and wine. I had my usual buyers regret and changed my order, no problem at all. The Tempura Prawns would have been rated top notch anywhere and our Drunken Noodles and Kung Pao were great. Respect to cooking and serving staff.
