The battered Fish is phenomenal here. Possibly best in Auckland. Chips are nice too. Perhaps a little pricey compared to other fish shops.
This is one of my favourite fish and chips shop! They cook with fresh fish and I woul definitely recommend this place if you are around at St Heliers. Enjoy the NZ beach with along with delicious fish n chips!
This has to be one of my favourite fish and chip takeaway stores. The quality of the crumbed fish is so good, really nicely cooked too. Kumara fries and normal fries weren’t oily either. The satay burger was flavoursome and filling. Authentic and tasty food that is well worth the money. Definitely coming back for more.
The Fish Monger is located opposite the Domino's in St Heliers - quite pricey but you get what you pay for. I love this place. Good quality fish always fresh and nice chips!
Great fish and chips. The Fishmonger offers a range of options - fish, squid, salad, potato chips and kumera. Suggest phoning ahead so that the order is ready when you arrive.
Went there tonight the fish and chip was quite nice and the best is their salt and pepper squids. The best time to go in is week day not that pack. Weekend is always back because went pass few times in the weekend it's always packed
This is our fish & chip go-to. We have had the crumbed snapper, battered snapper, chips, prawns, salt & pepper squid, hot dogs and sausages. The wait is usually quite reasonable and the staff are always pleasant. I have yet to be disappointed.
The fish and chips here are expensive, but generally excellent quality (much better than around the corner...) and decent portion sizes. The burgers are really big, but of variable quality.
Wait times can be long, even when they aren't that busy.
We tried fishmonger for the 1st time last Sunday evening to get lightly battered snapper. Was treated with excellent hospitality as the staff were lovely even though the queue was consistently out the door due to their obvious popularity in the area. Everyone we talked with while we sat, said don't worry it's worth it. When our snapper arrived we had received more than we had ordered and it was so fresh and the batter was crisp. We were pretty hungry so are in the shop at one of the tables provided. I now have a favourite fish and chip shop here in Auckland and can't wait to return, will call a head this time to reduce the wait on the obvious weekend nights! Thanks guys for offering something better than the others out there!
We came here for takeaway on Sunday for lunch at the beach. Ordered 1 x kumara chips with aioli, 1 x small chips and 1 x fish of the day. The kumara chips weren't the nicest we've had, some were nice but others very hard so a bit hit and miss really. The normal chips were lovely, authentic 'fish and chips' style. Fish was cooked very well, not greasy at all like most takeaway battered fish. Very good portion size for the price. Would definitely come back but steer clear of the kumara chips. Overall we found it nice - authentic 'fish and chips' which we have been craving since arriving from the UK.
Fish and chips gem, slightly hidden from view from the main beach so was extremely delighted when I found out about how well they cooked their fish and chips here. Frequently order wedges and also fish and chips and both of them are always cooked to perfection. Crunchy on the outside and soft in the inside. Perfect combination with a side of aioli sauce
Yum fish and chips here. We got the fish of the day and some scallops (which they actually gave us more than we ordered). The batter was not too thick and chips were cooked just right. They are a little over priced but that's what you expect in this area.
Awesome fish and chips shop. I've had their grilled fish, battered fish, fish Burger, fish tacos and their fries on various occasions. All very good. The tacos were good but definitely needed more fish in them but the other dishes were on the money.
We ordered fish, one battered one grilled, a scoop, and 2 hotdogs. The battered fish was good, but the grilled fish was a little dry. A shame really as it was only dry from sitting on the grill whilst the chips cooked. If he had just put it on later, it would have been fine. Everything is as you would expect from a fish n chip place, and their scoop is plenty for two people. They happened to give us more fish than we expected, (... maybe that is why we didn't finish the chips) either way I look forward to my next visit.
It's refreshing to see a Fish & Chip shop offering so many options other than plain old deep fried Fish & Chips!
The burger selection is enormous, and each one (of the 4 I've tried) is delicious. The seafood is all fresh and the chips are crisp.
There's a big wait sometimes which as much as a downfall as it is testament to The Fishmongers popularity. If you're prepared to wait, it will be worth it.
Decided to get dinner in st heliers. Everywhere was exceptionally busy on a Sunday night so we decided to try this place which was also busy (30min wait time).
Fish was great - more fillet than batter which is always good. My crumbed burger was so big I couldn't finish it but we also ordered battered mussels and kumara chips. I asked for 6 mussels and I got 8 which I was stoked about. Kumara chips were below average and only saved by the aioli dip. Decent portions but really pricey for fish and chips. Much better places you could get fish and chips from but nice to eat at the beach.
Both times I've been here they've given me more than I ordered! Ordered 2 pieces of fish, got 3. Ordered one potato fritter got 3! Both times been served at the til by their little son who is very friendly like the others. Beer battered chips are delicious by the way. Only thing I would say if the batter on one of the pieces of fish seemed a little bit undercooked and the salt and pepper squid went cold really fast.
We phoned in a takeaway order last week.
The meals were ready as promised when picked up.
Crumbed snapper was excellent, lightly crumbed and tasty.
The chips seemed to be hand cut and were great.
Been here a few times now and each time the food has been fresh and nicely cooked. It's in St Heliers so prices are slightly higher than in some parts of the city although worth the extra.
We went there on a busy Saturday evening so there was a 20 minute wait for our order. The staff were friendly and informed us of the delay. We look forward to going there again.
If you are from out of the area then we recommend taking your food up the hill to watch the sunset from above Ladies Bay looking back over the Sky Tower.
Perfect fish and chips, my family love it! Very friendly and helpful staff, we moved into the neighbourhood and we gonna be a frequent customer!
In my opinion, one of the best fish and chips in Auckland. If you want to try something different from the classic beer battered fish, they have the crumbed option (really yummy!)
Fish was divine and last night had two burgers 🍔 for the kids - which was super yummy and large. Happy and friendly couple - very pleased to support this local business.
Awesome fresh fish. I had the fish burger was excellent! Five stars...
We are Glendowie locals and regular customers at The Fishmonger. The fish is always fresh and tasty and the chips are perfectly cooked: crisp on the outside and hot and soft on the inside. Well done guys ... five stars!
Really good fish and chips! Burgers are also amazing here. One of the better places in Auckland!
Nice and crisp fish and chips, not oily. Much better than a couple of places around there, will go again.
Excellent fish & chips! I’m a regular customer. Recently I was in Whitianga, in the Coromandel where you would think you’d get the best. The snapper fillet I got was about half the size I get and lower quality (bit older) than in St Heliers, from what is apparently the best fish & chip shop in Whiti. The Fishmonger St Heliers consistently delivers excellent quality and great value! 👏👏👏
Clean and satisfying. Get the lemon/honey chicken with rice for a large container for $15
Yummy honey chicken on rice with bro collision! !
