A great place to stop when heading south late in the day as they are open until 5pm and have a good range of food on offer. A lovely courtyard is great on fine days, but there is plenty of room inside and parking outside the door. Lovely food and a great cup of tea, and the staff are really friendly.

Twice recently we've had delicious lunch at the Brown Sugar Cafe. They include GF and DF on their menu. Yesterday I left my bag there. When we phoned, it had already been put aside safely. The staff have been so helpful in suggesting the best way to get it to me. Thank you.

Stopped in on our way down to Wellington and so glad we did! Their coffee was the best we have had in NZ and their freshly baked sausage rolls with chutney were divine. The team were also super lovely and welcoming.

Hidden cafe in small town on the way from wellington to Taupo. Highly recommend visiting this cafe as the environment was relaxing, garden at the outside, get bit of stretch and have small bites to grab. They don’t have many options but cakes and sandwiches 🥪 are really delicious. Really enjoyed our coffee and glad we tried this cafe out.

Really nice, 4 semi separate sections, 2 indoor & outdoor under cover, or open. Delightful outside, even with inclement weather. Lots of greenery & despite its location in a busy town, felt like the middle of the country. For a tired driver, it was heavenly & very rejuvenating. Highly recommend 👌

Such a cute place to stop for lunch on the way from Lake Taupo to Wellington. My chicken salad salad was delicious (and finally got some green into my diet) and my partner enjoyed his cheese bacon toast thing too. The peanut butter bar and blueberry cake we had after was quite good!

We had egg benedict with bacon and spinach for breakfast. The hollandaise sauce was great. They use Supreme coffee. Food in the cabinet looks yummy but didn't order any. Will definitely stop here again.

A great cafe! Friendly staff, nice relaxing atmosphere and awesome cakes and quiches. And don't forget those killer sausage rolls. Don't miss this place if passing through Taihape.

A family favourite when travelling on State Highway one between Wellington and Taupo. Brown Sugar cafe in Taihape has an excellent and tasty breakfast menu and assortment of fresh baking and other ready meals. The coffees ☕️ and tea 🍵 are of a high standard as is the service. You can select to eat inside or outside in a sheltered garden area with clean toilets 🚻 😉 We have been stopping here for more than 20 years and never been disappointed.

6/2/22 On my way to Taupo so stopped in for a sit down this time. Very hot yesterday at 29degrees by 10am so opted for the outdoor area in the shade grabbing coffee, brunch & some goodies to take away. Such a gem. Photos included this time. 30/12/21 I always stop here on my trips from the Wgtn region to up north and this morning was no exception as I picked up a coffee made perfectly. If my companion was awake I would have sampled some of the fresh & exciting cabinet options. The beautiful souls on the staff are wonderful & up for a chat if you stop to take the time. Beautiful outside area & cottage wares for sale. I’m a fan!

Surprised with the negative reviews about this cafe. Location is just off the main state highway up a small side street. Plenty of parking around for ease of access. Food is of a good quality with a homely feel about it we had a freshly baked bacon and egg pie with a slice of carrot cake to finish. Staff are very friendly and helpful, they went above and beyond to help a family member. Great experience and will drop in again

Good location of the shop with a great wider outdoor area in the back. Busy place but fast service, few people staff members inside. Souvenirs available as well. Wheelchair people are welcome. Car parking on the kerb side near by. Toilets available.

A lovely café well worth the stop to refresh yourself & stretch the body when traveling. Small choice for those who are gluten free or vegan but a wide range of yummy cabinet food for everyone else. This time I enjoyed a delicious rhubarb & custard cake
