Stopped off here on our way home and it's a gem! What a cosy little cottage with a cabinet stuffed full of delicious, fresh homemade food. Small menu but enough to choose from. I had the simple flatbread of the day which was awesome I brought some beetroot relish which is almost gone and tucked into a epic pear and ginger cake! Can't wait to come again. The outside area for kids was lovely also. I imagine there could be a bit of a wait during busy times but definately worth it!
What an exceptional place. The garden was amazing, the food was gorgeous, and having a play area AND donkeys for the kids meant a relaxing experience. The spinach and cheese muffins were so lovely even our 4 year old couldn't get enough of them.
We dropped in to have our lunch and found out here such a comfortable place. Crowded with many customers, we had a look at the shop or their organic product. Eating in the garden looks great but our leader recommend not to because of the bugs...
Their food was just lovely with the organic veges and fruits. I enjoyed their Panino and the Pavlova cake which were both awesome! Wanna go back sometime. The hospitality also warm.
Dropped in for lunch on the way to the beach. This place has been there for many years and is very much worth visiting.
We both ordered a vegetable frittata with salad. Was probably the best one I have ever tasted. Well done.
The lady (Ruth) behind the till was very good. Her more junior staff need to smile and engage with the client a bit more when they deliver the food. Not too bad though!
The seating arrangements are great with a lovely garden to sit in.
There is a sort of shop within Colenso also.
Well worth visiting.
Been here twice now, nice setting, fast freindly service, beautifully presented lovely food & coffee/tea. Would highly recommend stopping- we will again.
I love stopping here after a trip to Whitianga. Such a pretty location and the food is really good. I recommend this place to visitors to the Coromandel as I love the setting and the food is thoughtful and well presented.
A visit to the Coromandel without a visit to Colenso Cafe, for my wife and I, just would not happen. Have been going there for over 20 years - the food is always superb, the service faultless, the coffee always necessitates a second cup. The garden is a joy and the range of goods in the shop should be emulated by every gift shop on the Coromandel. Viva Colenso!
I love the atmosphere of this cafe. The outside seating is especially nice on sunny days. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. It's a little far from my house, but I visit several times a year.
Lovely cafe and gift shop. They have very nice cake and good coffee! Definitely recommend, the place is beautiful.
Came across this absolute gem on our way back to Auckland. So worth the stop! Such a special cozy place with really good coffee, lovely seating, and a beautiful garden/orchard. There’s even an area where you can buy goodies like books, clothes, etc. Will definitely be back in the future
Definitely worth a stop at this awesome spot. There were a few good vegetarian options, I had a small salad to keep room for their amazing cakes! Their tea for 2 was a very generous pot with loose leaf tea. There's plenty of parking and you're able to keep an eye on your vehicle if you need to :) I noticed that it's also dog friendly. Their shop has some excellent books and Italian treats.
Awesome and very Wholesome cafe nested in a valley just a short drive past Tairua, Awesome staff, awesome food and they also have a wonderful and boutique knick-knack store to have a nosy through!
Just a slice of paradise, set in expansive grounds with lovingly tended gardens, right there on the roadside. Humble but wholesome menu, We were there for breakfast which arrived in short order. Coffees served within 10 minutes, food 5 minutes after. Service second to none, portions generous. Complimentary cube of polenta cake on the side. Lots to look at, art wise, in the villa and tucked into garden spaces.
I love this cafe - it’s so lovely to sit outside under the trees
The food is sublime! I had the salmon bagel with herby cream cheese - the most delicious bagel I’ve ever had (& I’ve had a few lol)
Others at our table had the waffles & scrambled eggs - both delicious
Highly recommend Colenso.
Colenso cafe is a lovely spot to go for lunch on a fine afternoon. Beautiful gardens and orchard where you can while away the time in a relaxed environment. The food options are a little different than the usual fair but excellent none the less. Service is excellent and staff are friendly and helpful. We worth stopping here on your travel around the Coromandel.

Good menu options and cabinet food. Hubby pleased with the highly ecommended Shakshuka eggs. Spinach and Feta filo was nice and light. Definite drawcard was to try the vanilla slice which didn't disappoint. Heaps of seating and lovely gardens.
I do not usually give 5 star ratings. This easily overlooked cafe is an exception. It combines a lovely rural setting, great coffee and food at ordinary prices.
