Although not one of the best Hot chocolate places I have been to- but overall it was good and very economical
Okey, in overall a really nice place. But I think it’s quite dated. Either the menu or the design should be renewed. The waffles are amazing. The chocolate ice cream is really nice. Coffee are average.
Felt like something sweet so I went over to House of Chocolate to get my fix 🤩 Ordered the Iced Chocolate and Caramel slice 🍫 The iced chocolate looked super decadent and rich but was surprisingly not overly sweetened. I give it the ultimate Asian compliment of “not too sweet” 😆 The caramel slice base had coconut mixed in which I really enjoyed! 🥥 The caramel slice wasn’t as mind blowing as Ripe Deli’s (still one of my fav caramel slices) but it definitely hit the spot!
P.S I was majorly craving House of Chocolate on Queens Birthday and got near the city when I realised THEY ARE CLOSED ON MONDAYS?! 😩😠😭 BLASPHEMY, a total crime. After I found out, I went to kfc and got wicked wings instead 😂 IT ISS WHAT IT ISS
If you are craving for chocolates then this place might fix it, just the name alone says a lot about this place. They serve desserts using finest ingredients like 53% couverture chocolate, free range eggs, Pure NZ ice cream and freshly whipped cream. The prepare Liege Waffles which is made every morning using authentic ingredients then left for 24 hours to proof. They also sell savoury waffles, open sandwiches, drinks, cakes, ice cream and most important of all Chocolates. Their chocolate cabinet is always full of their latest creations so you can choose your own, but these change on a regular basis, so you have to check it once in a while to try what’s new on offer.
These Bonbon chocolates were the highlight of my weekend feeds! These bonbons are small but powerful treats. The runny salted caramel literally melts in your mouth 🤩 bursting flavors (light blue one, with white chocolate shell), it definitely made an impression! I cannot wait to try more flavors from House of Chocolate, these eye candies are just perfect for the upcoming holiday season 🎅🏼😋☺️
💲Price $48 (16 piece bonbon selection)

📍Takapuna
definitely an amazing place for dessert recommended highly good vast range of desserts to try and located in the heart of takapuna. follow their Instagram page too
My girlfriend took me here the other day. She had already tried most of their flavours and had masterfully crafted her own waffle combination that she finds is perfect.
So we had the naked waffle with salted caramel and mascapone. This combination was not too sweet but tasted amazing.
We had a raspberry herbal tea with it which complimented it nicely.
I would definitetly be back for more in the future.
Taste - 4.25
Ambiance - 3.5
Service - 3.5
A nice dessert cafe. Ordered the hazelnut waffles, and the waffles were homemade, and ice cream was creamy. Hardly any hazelnuts were used in their homemade nutella though (of which a very small portion is given), which was a bit disappointing.
Food is delicious although pricey. Still our favourite place for a treat

After dinner, we were craving dessert so we decided to check out the House of Chocolate. This indeed was probably the best dessert I have ever had. You were allowed to choose the type of ice cream you wanted inside of your ball of chocolate and it came with bits of brownie inside as well. (PS. I suggest going with the chocolate sorbet as it is dairy-free but honestly has a much better chocolate flavor in my opinion than the regular chocolate// also if you are gonna have chocolate may as well go all out). Since the chocolate was so tasty we decided we would be back around Christmas times to grab some packages for our mothers. 10/10 recommend.
A friend and I popped in to house of chocolate for some brunch and I do admit I enjoyed it but I found it overly sweet. I've been here a couple times for cakes or a drink but had never gotten a meal there so decided to get the 'chocoholic waffle' which my friend also ordered and we didn't get drinks as we expected this to be sweetish but definitely didn't expect it to be as sweet as it was. The waffle came with chocolate ice cream, ganache, whipped cream, brownie and chocolate sauce poured on top which was a little excessive. I found it sickly sweet so I would recommend to share this as its a bit much for one. Would like to come back and try something else though. Recommend if you have a big sweet tooth :)
They serve a really nice dessert, got to try their chocolate mousse, chocolate ball and their shake and they were so yummy! The mousse came with cream on top and berries on the side, the chocolate ball came with fruits and melted chocolate; shake was ok too!
Love love love their almost everything I have tried. Sad point is that they have stopped making their famous fixx and fogg peanut butter shake which if you ask may kindly make it for you. Other than all sweetilicious👍🏼😊
Absolutely packed on a Friday night (around 8.30pm) but we managed to get a table inside.
The counter cakes and chocolates looked insanely good! I wanted to try everything. Prices are reasonable for everything.
Between 4 of us, we got the cookie sandwich, bourbon waffles, brownie s’mores dessert and the chocolate ball.
All the desserts were amazing! I liked the chocolate ball as it was a new experience and the fruits made the dessert less sickening. I would highly suggest sharing desserts.
One of the best places in Auckland to grab dessert. It is very popular, so if you’d like to go when it’s not too busy, it’s best to plan your time. There are many different options to suit dietary requirements and the food is always fresh
This is a great place to catch up with friends whilst having a sweet treat. It's always hard to decide what to order because everything in the cabinet looks tempting.
Cool dessert spot in Takapuna with an extensive menu and a cabinet filled with sweet treats. Take your sweet tooth and indulge. I had the s’mores cheesecake, so yum! Crunchy, buttery biscuit base with a smooth, thick chocolate centre, topped with a toasted gooey meringue. Would recommend and will be back.
Came here with my bf for our anniversary. It was a nice cute place to eat dessert with. The chocolate cake is one of my favorite here. The atmosphere was so friendly and nice, and beautiful too. Some of the desserts were a little too sweet, but overall, would definitely come again
This is my go to when I am craving that late night dessert! I normally order their waffles until I have discovered this chocolate ball dish! YUM!
If you are a chocolate lover, you will love the brownie ice cream sandwich. It was very rich and a little bit of a struggle to eat it all to be fair. The dulche de lèche waffle was great.
Super fast service, everything was excellent. We ordered black forest cheesecake, chocolate mouse and Belgium hot chocolate (dark). Nothing was too sweet. Would recommend sticking to one dessert per person. They look small but they are heavy.
They have amazing desserts that really satisfies your sweet tooth. So far I have tasted the waffle and the eton mess during my previous visit and I strongly recommend both. Would love to make consistent visits to try everything on the menu.
Lovely little cafe in the heart of Takapuna! I always choose this place for our work cakes because the service is friendly, accommodating and their cakes are DELICIOUS!
The latest cake we purchased was the Flourless Chocolate Cake which was decorated so beautifully and tasted like rich dense chocolate - perfect for chocolate lovers!
Oreo Cheesecake - Rich and creamy but definitely makes you feel very heavy afterwards.
Waffles - Warm, soft yet crunchy and flavoursome! Sooo satisfying and delicious, especially on a cold night
Flourless Muffin - This was beyond sweet for me. The taste was too rich, dense and you could taste mostly sugar if anything. Didn’t finish it and stopped after one bite :(
Nice place for date!! Ice Coffee and Belgian chocolate cake are my favorite~friendly staff and handmade chocolate are recommended for friends.
I love this place and keep returning week after week, I always have their hot chocolate, they use Belgium chocolate, it’s the best hot chocolate I’ve ever tasted. The iced chocolate with cream is delicious as well. The desserts are sooo good. They also have loyalty cards.
I realised that I'm probably the only person ever to order a non-chocolate creaming soda at a place called House of Chocolate, but nevertheless it was delicious. The atmosphere is also really nice and my friends drink looked and tasted great too apparently.
Overall pretty nice place!
House Of Chocolate damn okay it's pulled through. Been here quite a few times for a dessert or coffee and always had good service and food. A couple of my mates work here so love popping in and saying wassup. If you're a fan of chocolate this is the place for you! x
I ordered a Berry Smores Waffle. It was one of the best desserts I've had ever. Definitely see why this is the best cafe in Takapuna. You need to go here.
Been here once and tried their Nacho Waffle which was delicious and something different. My friend ordered the Dulce De Leche Waffle and we loved the presentation, great for instagram photos. We also ordered sodas and thought that it’s house made but turns out to be bottled and that left us a little disappointed, but overall loved this place. Friendly staff, great service, clean environment, great location and yummy food.
Amazing desserts. A very delicious menu to suit a variety of tastes. With generous servings it's often hard to finish it. So go hungry!!
The hot chocolate I had was so nice too.
I'll be back to try more of the menu soon.
This place is frigging amazing!
The cafe it self has a great atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and always helpful.
Food is to die for...well you shouldn’t be on a diet if you go there...
Barista made coffee is delicious using @flight coffee
Milkshakes made with real icecream
They always have a special of the week on top of the menu.
At the front is a chocolate cabinet with handmade truffles and bonbons!
Our little one loved that one the most ;)
We had the hazelnut waffle with vanilla and dark chocolate ice cream. The waffles here are crunchy on the outside and light&fluffy in the inside 😊 They look amazing and taste just as good as they look 😋 The dark chocolate ice cream was rich and creamy but not too rich so it was perfect! Great service and atmosphere especially at night. Thank you for the great waffles!!
Had a great time here with awesome waffles. Had so many varieties of waffles to choose from. They also have savory waffles too. All their chocolate beverages are totally recommended and their ice creams are also delicious. Friendly staff too. They also have a romantic atmosphere at night with dimmed down lighting. Lovely place to note for a romantic date night.

Our favourite desserts place. We were so glad when they opened in TK. We used to visit their original Birkdale branch. Everything is so deliciously sweet and diet goes out the window. Their hot chocolate is rich and comes in a huge glass jug for $6. So worth it! The waffles is another winner and recently we tried the pink ruby choc waffle. Hubbie doesn’t usually eat sweets but he approved this one. They have selection of home made choc truffles and variety of decadent desserts. The one with the molten choc lave is quite nice and you get to choose one flavour of Kapiti ice cream to go with it!
Super friendly staff, and absolutely delicious food. Great place for an after dinner coffee or a sweet and decadent dessert. Defiantly will return!
Came here for a late night treat. Love the fact you can go out and have something slightly different and that the restaurant is still open late.
Menu posted on the wall but was handed menu's when we walked in. Loved the fact staff were super friendly.I had the chocolate in a mould with chocolate 'dirt' and fresh and dried fruit. Portion was massive but really enjoyable. Loved pouring the hot chocolate sauce over the mould to eat my ice-cream (you get to choose your flavour). My dining partner had the bananoffee ice-cream which he wolfed down in no time. Other chocolates are also available to purchase, as well as a great selection of cakes. Waffle menu looks interesting! Savoury waffles such as nacho waffles! Interesting!
One of my absolute favourite dessert spots! Their waffles are especially delish and a good size, so you don’t feel robbed of your money haha.
Overall they’re really good with their flavours — nothing is too sweet, nor too artificial. Would recommend, even to those who don’t have a sweet tooth!
I love chocolate and this place is very good and has super friendly service all the time! Love coming!! So super good if you’re a chocoholic like me I 100% recommend! Make the best hazelnut hot chocolate!
The cafe is in lovely in the heart of Takapuna. I had the open egg sandwich and would have preferred if the eggs were hard boiled but apart from that everything was amazing. Wait staff were friendly and accomodating and the desserts were amazing. I had a hard time choosing but eventually got the chocolate brownie and couldn’t have been happier
Discovered this place by accident....and WOW....what a nice place to have a desert after dinner. Awesome waffles. It took me back a couple of years with the retro decor, tables and chairs. Felt at home and this will be a regular place to visit.
Another place I love 💕 this place is always busy so you have to pick your time but the goodies are well worth the wait 😊 it is a great place to go to catch up with friends or on a date and enjoy some of the yummy treats
This is the perfect spot for dessert! Why have a dessert anywhere in takapuna, when you can walk 200 metres to this spot.
They have a massive amount of desserts and chocolates. We ordered:-
The salted caramel waffles and the hazelnut chocolate waffles. Both dessert were just nomtastic...
The only minor gripe would be that the waffle was too small. But in all honesty I can eat a fair share of food.
If you go for dinner in takapana , go for dessert here!!
Amazing waffles every time I’ve been here, and their coffee is delicious too - the hazelnut latte especially. The staff is also friendly and the seating area is super comfortable.
Have been here a few times to get dessert and it's always been delicious! Their hot chocolates are very good. They're always really busy so you have to get in early for a seat or wait. But staff are friendly and the desserts are worth the wait :)
Straight to go here for desert ! Lots of choice sweet things that makes happy anyone~
whenever i come to takapuna i never pass here.
There are many customers eventhough late night time .
Definitely my go-to spot when I’m craving dessert on the shore and I am pleased every time.
On this particular day we got a slice of the black forest cake, a slice of the oreo cake and my friend ordered a cappuccino which he said was one of the best he’s ever had.
Both cakes were incredibly smooth, moist, rich in flavour but not too sickeningly sweet.
Service is always very friendly. A warm and inviting atmosphere tucked away in a great location.
I freaking love this place so much! Apart from it being a little pricey it’s so worth it. They have amazing chocolates, waffles and just everything.
Love love love House of Choc as somewhere to head for a nice dessert after a dinner.
Always get the same thing and go for my trusty hot chocolate pudding, taste and quality is always the same - although temperature isn’t always as hot as I’d like.
The menu options are pretty phat with something to please everyone so that’s a positive, although I’ve never ordered anything but my usual.
Following on with the positives I do love the vibe of the place, super casual yet classy and very inviting, this along with the staff (esp. the nice boy on a Sunday night with the cool socks, give him a pay rise he’s great) make for a great experience.
Had a slight issue on Sunday with some what looks like plastic wrap in a piece of cake but was handled awesome by staff after we brought it to their attention, super apologetic and swapped the piece straight away!
Tried a couple of the chocolates before and was not as satisfied as I expected by one or two, chose the:
Strawberry mousse - I was expecting a more natural strawberry taste, whereas this is more like a strawberry milkshake taste
Banoffee - I rate this one quite highly flavours are subtle asf but good
Cappuccino (I think) - was some sort of coffee one that was quite nice also quite strong coffee
For $2.50 each I was expecting more to be honest but I may have just chosen ones that didn’t quite fit my buzz so each to their own, so definitely worth trying a flavour if you’re in.
I’ve also noticed the owners don’t take criticism on here very well so plz don’t fight me, I do rate the place highly - just a couple little nicks I’ve noticed over repeat visits but still a 4/5 overall.
Really hit my sweat tooth. Not many places in Auckland do decent waffles. They have both sweet and savoury. Would go again to try the rest of the waffles on the menu. Anastasia Lee
Tried their chocolates before, but didn't know they've got cafes around Auckland. Now we know, so do you!
Went to House of Chocolate with a group of friends after dinner and we've ordered their Dark Hot Chocolate - rich, delicious and well priced.
We'll be back. :)
Had a waffle at House of Chocolate and it was so good and tasty and the cake there is also really good! It's nice and sweet but not too sweet
I just had hot dark chocolate mocha today. It was great:) waffle is good here as well. I came after i visit Takapuna morning market:) great to come here again
We just went for dessert. We were hoping to share something, but they are really designed for one person. The size was large enough, but presented in a mason jar, and somewhat deconstructed - made sharing across a table hard. However, we had no problems finishing what we each ordered! The baked Alaska (not traditional) was delicious, as was the Eaton mess. Only downside was the tables were sticky and the wait staff just cleared things without wiping.
Sooo much chocolate but so good! Can highly recommend the chocolate ball but we were also really surprised by the waffles. Everything is so pretty and delicious
Came here for drinks and cake and was blown away by how tasty the Belgian chocolate and Oreo mini cake was. Will come again to try the waffles! Service was a bit slow for the quiet morning though
Lemon Meringues and Naked Waffles are really delicious. Gelato was pretty standard. Hot chocolate was good. Saturday is a always busy. Good place to relax.
After dinner... After looking at multiple options decided to go House of Chocolate... Right choice...
Tuesday night .. winters... 100 people... Long queue...
Deserts worth it... Taste, texture and presentation everything 10/10... My daughter loved trying few of their chocolates as well.
Have already recommended to all my friends... I can't wait to go back again 🤩
On a cold winter day like today, to end my tasting day with lovely desserts is one of the best feeling!
I came here when the shop was really busy and we were waiting a little while before seated but all the desserts were worth the wait.
Service: 3/5

Delicious. Love the carrot cake here. The desserts are quite small so we ended up with a selection to share. The selection is fantastic, often busy so make sure you get in early!
This is an awesome dessert cafe that offers great options for gluten and dairy free people. I never go to a cafe and expect to find anything that tastes amazing/normal when its gluten free and dairy free. The food here was yuuuuuummy😍🙌🏼
We were looking for a really nice dessert place after a heavy brunch and found this gem in Zomato. Drove all the way to Takapuna from Botany and was amazed by the coziness of the place. The chocolate ball was an absolute treat, my sis got the dulce leche, and my hubby had a nice belgian mousse. Overall spent $50 for these desserts plus a watermelon soda, but it was worth it. The only reason why I didn't give it a 5* was because the service was super slow. But never mind..we really had a sweet time anyway. 🙂
It's a great place to go and get coffee and chocolates with friends. They have amazing chocolate and coffee, they have really good quality cakes as well.
Must-visit chocolate shop in Auckland. Located at Hurstmere Rd in Takapuna. Very nice area and ambiance. Busy most of the time. Staff were friendly and prompt service. Great range of slices, muffins and cheesecakes at a very reasonable price. Just impressive on how yummy they all look. And yes, not too sweet, just perfect!! I love the Cheesecake and how I wish I took some home....so I'm coming back soon. Hmmm...
These guys are amazing. Have been going here for just over two years. Waited long to review because I thought surely no place is 5/5 all the time. I feel like I'm giving away a secret. I wish there'd be more places that offer great service (and specialize in chocolate! :P)
Love love love.
Awesome variety and vibe at this place. Shame it’s not open Monday’s but great selection to pick from. Everything I’ve tried I’ve enjoyed so far
I can honestly say that I have never really enjoyed any of their special waffles. Very pretty, but too heavy, sweet, and messy, with too much going on.
The reason I’ve given them 4 is... because
I’ve now discovered the perfect waffle👌🏻
Custom made waffles with mascarpone, butterscotch sauce, and espresso ice cream on the side. My friend ordered it initially, his ingenious idea, and now I order only this.
Simple as it may be, every element is perfect and this combo is a marriage made in heaven. Try it? And this place might become your next favourite Taka desert spot too.
I’d give 5, but I can’t because I’ve rather disliked every other waffle on their menu, and the cabin cakes are dry and unpleasant.
I’ve been here a few times now and liked every visit I’ve had.
Had this pretty looking waffle for dessert last night.
Staff are pretty friendly and quite a lot of desserts to choose from.
A friend of mine had a naked waffle and customized it by adding some mascarpone and salted caramel sauce, and that was the best waffle out of what we all chose from.
Definitely recommend to any sweettooths out there and a nice place to get a dessert after dinner. Just watch out for opening hours as it is not always open to late.
Best waffles I've had in Auckland! Super crispy and I could smell the deliciousness radiating off of it as our friendly server brought our treats over to us. I don't like overly sweet desserts, so I went for a naked waffle + a scoop of ice-cream, which was the perfect level of sweetness! If you've got a bit more of a sweet tooth and wanna get a namesake chocolate dessert, the Chocoholic waffle is lovely too!
The variety of ice-cream available was awesome, and there were some real interesting flavours. I got the roasted white and dark chocolate, and it was amazing.
The place is super cute and cosy, and I loved the selection of sweet gifts available. Their cabinet was packed full with so many gorgeous dessert creations I just wanted to try them all! House of Chocolate is a must try if you're a dessert lover!
Nice and cosy place for a dessert. Looking for something sweet with waffle. Not really the type of waffle I particular like, but it was not too bad. Probably will go back and try something else.
Love coming here when I’m craving something sweet! Not too expensive and the food is amazing! Can’t believe I only found out about this place a few months ago!
Food was delicious and the atmosphere was very lively. They were super busy but we managed to get a seat ☺️ staff were all very friendly and our order didn't take too long to come out. Highly recommend
This place is sooo busy even on a Tuesday night but now I can understand why... I ate sOo MUCH sUGAR AND LITERALLY FELL INTO A FOOD COMA aFTERWARDS but it was worth it 100% 👍👍 I need to come back here again!
Absolutely love this place - it is now my favourite dessert place. I've come back here about 5 times. Everything I have ordered has been amazing. Definitely recommend the chocolate ball with vanilla bean ice cream. Has a really nice vibe, great place to have a good chat with friends.
The chocolate is amazing here I had the chocolate melting ball it was sooo good and also the hot chocolate is amazing as well tastes so nice . The place is clean and tidy and the staff is so friendly
Hugely recommend these guys for special events cakes. They were so accommodating, friendly, helpful and the price was fantastic. As for the cake - absolutely superb. Looked so gorgeous and was melt in your mouth material. The comments from guests was neverending. Wouldnt go anywhere else now. So if you're after that high quality designer cake but with a great price tag and a friendly face - these are your guys.
I'm not usually a sweet tooth, so when I wanna have a dessert I pick up the places very carefully.
Been to the House of Chocolate more than once and it gets better all the time. They have a good options of sweet treats mixing usually ice cream, chocolate and fruits to balance it out.
Main thing I think could be improved though is the coffee, which is usually too strong and even burnt for my taste
Stumbled across here spontaneously after lunch on a warm Wednesday afternoon with my sister. Guilty of my 3rd cheat day in a row.
After much contemplation, we went with the ‘Bourbon, Butterscotch and Pecan’ Waffle; and their Pudding Special, which was a white chocolate cake with drunken strawberries with choice of ice cream and marscapone.
THE WAFFLE WAS TO DIE FOR. The waffle itself was hot and crispy yet so light! The Kohu Road caramel ice cream was a match made in heaven with it, the creamy richness melting over the piping warm waffles—MMM. The candied pecans were outrageous; added crunch to the masterpiece. The fudge was soft and chewy (albeit a tad bit too sweet for me, surprisingly!), so it was a mixture of different flavours and textures. I found myself mopping up the plate with the waffle and when the waffle was finished I literally scooped every bit of melted ice cream and the caramel sauce with a spoon 😂. If only there was more of the waffle!
The pudding special was a bit disappointing; it was like a sponge cake that lacked integrity and flavour and also a little dry. The strawberries were also unexciting, tasted a little like canned strawberries.
Overall, I would recommend their Waffles! Service is also really friendly and their interior decor and furniture is very vintage.
Food: 9/10
Price: 8/10
Ambience: 8/10
Service: 10/10
I came there for the first time and as for the first impression, this place amazed me. Funky/ hipstery place with it's own magical atmosphere. Artisan chocolate, super tasty ice cream and beautifully made sweet waffle dishes.
It is definitely a must return place. I could even say that place gives you one of those epic taste endeavours of lifetime you should try.
If youre big on chocolate and dessert you will love this place! Went here for my pre-birthday celebrations lol celebrating the end of an era! Had waffles & a white chocolate mocha. I must say I was NOT DISAPPOINTED!!!! The store was set out in a vintage style, the staff were friendly and the vibe was so nice and chill. Got me my full load of chocolate I wasn't able to finish my food I almost felt like I was going into a coma lol
omg! it is my favourite place in takapuna♡♡♡♡♡ I am not a big fan of chocolate because I LOVE the chocolate here! it wont taste too sweet for me and the waffle just pefect😋😋
Have come here twice now for their ice cream and each time was great. Their ice cream is really nice and satisfying. I love their green tea ice cream especially and my friends banana passionfruit one was also really good. We stood in front of the ice creams for awhile not sure exactly where we were meant to be waiting but eventually someone asked if they could help us. For $5 for a single scoop, i'd definitely come some other time for late night desserts.
This place offers a wide range of yummy treats. Tried their dulce de leche and Oreo and dark chocolate brownie and it was delightful. Great ambience and friendly staff. Will definitely visit again 😊
Came here after dinner for dessert and it was pretty good. Ambience is nice, funky/retro sort of decor going on. Service is ok, the staff are friendly but when you walk through the door initially you're left to your own devices but I guess it works for them.
The mrs had the oreo cheesecake with green tea ice cream and a flat white while I had the hot chocolate pudding with passion fruit sorbet and a snickers milkshake. Everything came out quickly and was delicious. The mrs didn't like the taste of the coffee but she it looked good.
Nice place, I wouldn't mind going back.
Just the right sweetness! This is how I would describe my experience with a slice of Peanut Butter Cheesecake at House of Chocolate in Takapuna.
This spacious dessert spot has the perfect ambiance for quality conversation - yep, makes you drop your phone and take time out from social media. Expect a retro vibe on their classic chairs and vintage photos of Marilyn Monroe, John Lennon, and The Beatles hanging on the walls.
And on your way home, you might consider taking with you a piece or two of their handmade gourmet chocolates.
Firstly service was kinda average, there was a very long wait (probably because it was very very busy) and they ran out of an item on the menu that I was quite eager to try. Staff were kinda friendly though.
The ice chocolate was very nice though, an authentic chocolate flavour really rang through without being overly sweet or sickening. I also had a peanut butter and banana waffle, which was really nice for the first few bites, but I didn't really like the texture of the peanut butter because it was very sticky and I had to constantly use water to rinse my mouth so I could continue eating. The crunch was good though. The banana was also really nicely caramelised, but the whole dish started getting a bit too sweet after I'd eaten about half of it.
I would definitely recommend this place though, they have real good quality dessert, and anyone with a sweet tooth will probably be in love with this place. It is a little bit on the pricey side but I personally think it's worth it to go at least (bare minimum) once.
The service was great and the place open, and well set out. We got the chocolate waffles and French toast. Also coffee. The best waffles and coffee I’ve had in a while.
Love this place . If you have a sweet tooth and love chocolate this is definitely the place for you . They well satisfy your cravings :-) we loved the chocolate drinks and the waffle we ordered . If you're in need of water there is a fridge of cold water available which is awesome.
Great atmosphere and great food. I have not tried the savoury range, but all of the sweet options are divine. I have had the waffles and brownies on a couple of occasions and they are always consistent and yum. I really enjoy the white hot chocolate that they have on offer, and get it every time I go there.
Great presentation and portion sizes, everything is good quality and served with care. Not a huge fan of sweet things but if you like dessert then it would definitely be an enjoyable experience. Ambience is nice and cozy too.
A sucker for dessert and I've now been here a couple of times. Good cozy environment. Friendly staff and solid menu. The Belgian Chocolate cake with a scoop of ice cream has got to be my favourite, although I highly recommend their mousse.
super yum! great atomsphere! got the chocolate ice cream waffle. the waffle is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the chocolate ice cream is rich and not overly sweet. however the portion was a bit small for 15 dollars, 1 waffle with 2 scoops of ice cream and cream. will go again to try more!
Nice place for some pudding if in the area, I'm not a chocoholic but boring me had the chocolate mousse as I'm familiar with this, oh and the deconstructed bacon/salad sandwich too, See pic below.
My young one had the chocolate Brownie with some ice creme as well. see pic again below eh.
Always the best place to go in Takapuna after a good feed. Great atmosphere and even better chocolate pudding! It has great texture and perfect balance of sweet and bitterness of the dark chocolate. A must try if you are in the area
Not gonna lie, this place is a bit on the higher end but it's in Takapuna so what did you expect?
I've here on previous occasions and this place is always so welcoming.
Best moment was when I would come here on an evening and Tony Bennett (one of my favourite jazz singers) was playing. I instantly knew that this would be one of my favourite places.Honestly the best thing about this place is its interior and atmosphere. Very retro with the 50's aesthetic.
The food heightens the experience. The portions are deceptive. Small but leave you very satisfied :)
This place is very enjoyable to bring a couple of friends to or your special someone ;)
Definitely a place to take out on a romantic date, just sharing a sweet dessert to end your day to.
We ordered the highly recommended hot chocolate pudding and it definitely met our high expectations. The bourbon, butterscotch and pecan waffles were to die for, could not get enough of the butterscotch sauce. Definitely coming back here to try more of their menu!
One of the well known cafes here in trendy Takapuna for of course all the chocolate lovers out there. And who doesn't like yummy treats once a while.
Like a regular cafe they have ample seating space and a comfy couch for those want to lounge a little. I just wish they would put more comfy seats around but I guess they're trying to maximise seating availability.
The cafe offers everything chocolate. And for tonight we ordered Dark Chocolate Mocha and an Oreo Cupcake as shown in the picture below. The Mocha is superb. One of the best I had so far but I was a bit disappointed with the cupcake. With it's grace and marvel you would expect a moist yummy cupcake but once we dug in the cupcake crumbled in the middle which I guess dampened the experience however the taste was satisfactory. My friend who had been here has suggested we try the waffles next time and that will be for another day.
House of Chocolate Dessert Cafe is a sure must if you're a chocolate addict and you're within the vicinity. With a wide array of menu to choose from and short wait times you'll surely tempt your chocolate cravings
Beautiful atmosphere, loved the waffles. Great dessert, hot chocolate pudding is beautifully made. Waffles melt in your mouth. Good coffee. Friendly staff
We ordered their chocoholic waffles and it was divineee! Chocolates is our favourite sweets in the whole world and this cafe does chocolates justice. The store itself has a good ambience and we'll be back to try out more from their menus.
Super delicious and very good customer service, great for a birthday get together or a sweet treat. I came here with a group of friends and ordered the bacon and Banana waffle and I must say they were probably the best waffles I've ever had :) I would highly recommend!
I could almost live here... It's like my kind of heaven. Their waffles and shakes are to die for. Their presentation is just out of this world. I always come here whenever I'm craving a bite of something super sweet. (Mmm.. Chocolate) And I've taken many friends here, they loved it!
If you love chocolate and all things sweet then you will love this place ,the salted caramel ice cream was delicious and the chocolate fondue was really good also love this place would definitely return
The service is great, the food delicious and the decor homey.
This is one of my favourite places to go for desserts on the shore as they open quite late and always has a lively atmosphere. But because its so popular there's normally a wait time of around 20mins for a table.
We have tried multiple items on the menu, with our most recent discovery that you can choose whatever ice cream flavour for their shakes! We tried green tea and passion fruit and both were amazing. Highly recommended!
My patner and I came for dessert after dinner. He had the hot chocolate pudding which he loved. I had the salted caramel waffles which was like a party in my mouth. The place was so busy esp for a wednesday night. I now underrstand why...the desserts are just so yum. It didn't take us too long to find a table. The service was also quick.
The have peanut butter flavoured stuff AND feijoa AAAND green tea. I've died and gone to heaven 😍 it was so hard for me to choose a dessert!

I go here way more than I should have but it's so convenient for me and it's the only dessert place I go to in the shore. Their hot chocolate is great and perfect for the chilly weather.
My favourite so far has been the bombe Alaska cheesecake. It was the perfect balance of sweetness and texture. Paired with ice cream, it was a great dessert. Their cakes are also pretty good and easy to take home.
If you're dining in, I love their hot chocolate pudding, dulce de leche and chocolate brownie.
The most luscious and rich mochacino on the planet. With thick dark belgian chocolate and deep roasted coffee that is round and full. So good it feels naughty. Which brings me to the Belgian Chocolate Cake which completes the blissful experience. The german baker takes deep pride in his work and knows about the purity of great ingredients and doesn't skimp on any of it. Oh... and the carrot cake... oh my...
Love to come here to catch up with friends when we're wanting a sweet treat. Will never pass up an opportunity to come here. I like to get the banana chocolate waffles but have the bananas removed so that the macadamia nuts are left behind 😍
Yummy desserts!! Such a good range of delicious treats for everyone, raw vegan slices, waffles, cheesecakes and lots of different drinks.
We ordered one raw vegan caramel slice, raw cheesecake and a ice cream cookie sandwich 🙈😍
I went here with girlfriends and loved the place! The ambience was fun yet relaxing; a place perfect to chat with friends. Their food is a delight! I enjoyed my affogato and chocolate chip cookie. Quite a challenge to find parking as the car park was quite full, but patience is a virtue. 😊
When I'm craving sweets this is the place i will be at!! It truly satisfy's my cravings :D they honestly have the best dessert in town! Great service is well
Good ambience. Too pricey though. Mediocre taste. But good staff. This was the first dessert place I brought my friend to, who just landed to nz

My go-to DESSERT shop whenever I'm STRESSED in work or just want to hangout with friends. The ambiance is great and cozy. The staffs are friendly and accommodating. They have a wide variety of desserts and could be shared with your mates or not. They also have a loyalty card where you can get free stuffs for every 5-6 stamps. The cards are placed at the cashier.
This is a great place to go with friends for a chill out after dinner, or cozy up inside with a book chapter and take 10 to treat yourself. There is something for everyone, from little individual delicious chocolates gorgeously decorated, to the meatier cakes and outstanding range of adventurous cheesecakes and so much more! I had some chocolates and a taste of my friend's cheesecake (chocolate and peanut butter). YUM. I will definitely be back to this unique hang-out. That Mojito cheesecake is something I'd like to try next time!
They have the best waffle in Auckland! Their interior and friendly staff makes you feel so comfortable just like at home. Definitely a great place to enjoy afternoon tea or dessert after dinner.
After first visit I can't stop thinking of coming back again whenever I crave for waffle or something sweet. Their banana chocolate waffle is always my top pick. I love their dark chocolate and vanilla ice cream. I tasted both strawberry and chocolate milkshake and they are both great. Trust me the milkshake is unlike any other milkshake you can get elsewhere.
I gave my first try for a savory waffle by ordering their big breakie waffle (which is not in the menu) and I wasn't disappointed at all. It comes with 2 eggs, baked beans and grilled tomatoes. Bacon or salmon are optional. I guess they added some herbs in the waffle batter so it taste very different from the dessert waffle I usually had.
New updates: came back here again for the first time after they changed their new menu. Was a little bit disappointed when I couldn't find my top favorite banana chocolate waffle :( so I gave a try for the salted caramel ice cream waffle which called Dulce De Leche. It was served with Kohu Road salted caramel ice cream, banana chips, banana, coconut slices, popcorn, and drizzled with our salted caramel sauce. It wasn't as good as the banana chocolate waffle that I loved the most because I think the ice cream and the caramel sauce made the whole dish overly sweet. Banana and coconut is a good idea but not so much for banana chips and popcorn.
I tried their signature Belgium dark hot chocolate as well which was made with 53% dark chocolate. It definately has rich chocolate taste and was the nicest hot chocolate I ever had. Sadly it doesn't go well with the waffle I ordered today. A pot of Earl grey supreme tea is a better option to balance out the sweetness.
I hope they can have the banana chocolate waffle back in menu because I really love it😘
The chocoholic waffles with ice cream (salted caramel and green tea scoop) were really good but the chocolate a little disappointing as it tasted similar to cooking chocolate. I recon I would defiantly go back to waffles but wouldn't purchase chocolate or chocolate gifts there.
I always come here for the waffles, although a bit pricey for the amount, the taste is totally worth it! We had the blueberry mascarpone and berry berry and both were very nice. I also like that they open til late hours. Will be back again!
The most delicious desserts I've eaten, amazing quality and a large quantity too, I'm surprised they don't charge more! Staff are super friendly, understanding and welcoming. They also sell delicious and hard to find drinks such as Karma Cola! 10/10 my favourite place to eat! :)
I strongly recommend the hot chocolate pudding. The balance of sweet and sour with the berry compote makes this a dessert that doesn't overwhelm your tastebuds. You can choose any kohu road ice cream to go with it and we went with the salted caramel to balance the flavours. Would definitely get the same combination again. The large beverage was huge too which was great for sharing between my bf and I. I also like the deco, happy vibes and great service.
I thought they only did sweet foods and drinks... but they also have savoury dishes... i had their potato and d leek waffles...omg they were yummy! The variety of desserts here were amazing even to only look at!
■ Cosy and welcoming
■ Great range
■ Fast service
The House of Chocolate has a really cute selection of desserts and drinks. We had an insane craving for waffles and definitely came to the right place! Between the three of us, we tried the Peanut Butter and Banana, the Berry Berry and the Banana Chocolate Leige waffles. All three looked incredible and tasted just as delicious. We will definitely be back to try out the dessert menu in the future. They have such an adorable range of sweet treats and reminds of the Chocolate Boutique in Parnell, although tastewise, this place is better in my opinion. A nice little spot to suit any kinda sweet tooth. I headed straight to the gym straight afterwards!! Hahaha
I have had the PB Lovers waffle and the savory potato and leek waffle here - both delicious! Service is always friendly too.
The chocolates are beautiful and taste divine. The muffins in the cabinet are on the dear side, but they are larger than your usual muffins and are so decadent that they're worth as a treat. Yum.
I had an enjoyable time here. The ambience was great , perfect for a sunny day to enjoy waffles topped with tiramisu and dark chocolate ice cream. The staff were friendly and hospitable. Although i suggest clearing up tables as soon as customers have vacate the space to maximise table turnovers because we almost didnt dine here because there was no space inside available to sit on due to piled up dishes on tables.
Heaven on earth for chocolate lovers. Open pretty late too which is good. Cool, quirky atmosphere and a great local business. Perfect date destination!
I have been here a number of times now and I absolutely love it. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, the hours are amazing for that late night craving or catchup and the food is absolutely delicious. I'm a massive sweet tooth and this place hits all the right spots. I've have the waffles, the gelato and the chocolate truffles, all of which were a flavor sensation! It's such a bonus being on the shore as well!
Finally a place on the North Shore that is open late and does amazing desserts! If your ever craving for something sweet or the restaurant your at dessert menu is average... Come here! I've had the chocolate waffle and the hot chocolate pudding and omg they are so amazing!! Service is good, very nice staff last time I went. Would recommended to anyone who has a massive sweet tooth like myself.
Eaton mess and cookie sandwich tasted terrific. The Eaton mess was actually very refreshing even though it's extremely sweet. The cookie sandwich much heavier, chocolate sauce, cookie like dark chocolate fudge cake with salted caramel ice-cream. The chocolates in the cabinet looked terrific, but very tiny like the size of your thumb nail, at a cost of $2.50 each we didn't try.
Great choccie milkshake will have to come back for dessert one day soon! The atmosphere is cute and kitchy which is always lovely and a nice break from the modern decor. Will have to come here for a dessert date.
Love places like this that offers a variety of desserts and pastries and open 'til late! We've tried Belgian chocolate cake, Hot pudding, a variety of ice creams and Chocolate waffle. Love all of them but I find that the waffles are a bit expensive. Drinking water is easy to get from the fridge, the whole place is bright and sunny, thev've got their own toilet (not outside the cafe) and classic decors (e.g. Beatles photos) makes me want to keep coming back.
So.... this place is fantastic. Came here last night for dessert. I chose the banana, macadamia and chocolate waffle and it was literally perfect, delicious and enjoyed every bite. For $14, I think it was fair price too. My partner got the chocolate mousse, which was good but really tiny and definitely not worth the $11 price tag. It was super small (don't get it, get a waffle, you won't regret it)
Will definitely be back here! So yum
Have you ever been to a place that stays true to their name. I mean is Aucklands theme park Rainbow's End truely the representation to what the end of a rainbow ought to be like? Is Burger King really the "king of burgers"? Do cows fly? No, however ... House of Chocolate Dessert Cafe & Cakery IS the House of Chocolate.
Experience:
Another brodate was on the cards and my friend and I both had been craving a hot dessert to reward ourselves after a long and busy week (of course). Hearing great reviews about House of Chocs Leige waffle combinations we ventured from afar to dine in on a busy friday night. On entry, WOW.. just wow. You're immediately drawn to the almost endless varieties of chocolate combinations available - from blocks to cakes to slices to truffles rest assure your cravings can be cured through multiple ways, shapes and forms. The restaurant itself was cosy, the counter staff were warm and welcoming, and food arrived within 10 minutes.
Food:
Chocoholic (Organic dark chocolate icecream, housemade brownie, ganache, cream, drizzled with liquid dark chocolate) - this was absolutely divine! The brownie literally melted in your mouth, the waffle was fantastic, and the addition of icecream on top was beautiful - rich and creamy. We absolutely loved the dish!
Value:
The prices are what's to be expected of most cafes throughout Auckland. Pretty reasonable I'd say - piece of advice: try not to go when your hungry cause you could easily rack up quite the bill if your eyes are bigger than your stomach.
Experience/Service- 4/5
Food - 4.5/5
Value - 4/5
Verdict:
Chocolate lovers rejoice, this place is heaven on earth when it comes to chocolate. The varieties on offer will leave you in a minor sugar coma just from looking alone. Definately a great place for date night, or a go to for the sweet tooth/chocolate lover. The service is great and their waffles is nothing short of amazing! Definately plan on returning to try some of their other selections
When we went there for late dessert I was surprise that the place is still busy. I had the chocolate cake and my friend had carrot cake both are yum and superb. although the frosting of carrot cake is too sweet for me. Gelato's are yum as well perfect for the cakes:)
Came by for dessert after dinner in Takapuna. The first thing you notice when you walk in is the chocolate and cake counter. The next is what looks like mix and match furniture around the place. We were able to get a table and the waiter took our orders.
They have menus but all the items are also on the board above the counter (except the ice cream flavours int he ice cream counter). It looks like the main choices are either hot desserts or waffles. They also do savoury items. Went with the chocolate pudding and it was delicious. The chocolate was a bit gooey in the middle and you get a choice of ice cream. I personally found the compote to be a bit too sour. Was also able to try the chocolate waffle and that was just amazing because of the amount of chocolate on the plate. A nice place to end the night with good desserts.
This place is superb. Great atmosphere and service! Always packed! The desserts use great quality ingredients. The desserts are also not super sweet like other places! Absolutely wonderful and worth a try! The mousse tastes like heaven!
Been wanting to come here for the longest time and it definitely did not disappoint! We had the Belgian (Hot) Dark Chocolate and the Blueberry Mascarpone Waffle. Hot chocolate was yummy, I got a shot of hazelnut in mine and it tasted like Nutella - delish! Not really a fan of blueberry but the Blueberry Mascarpone Waffle is ah-mazing! They're not stingy with the toppings like some other places so you really get chunky blueberries and smooth creamy mascarpone in every delicious bite! I was really sorry I had to split it with my husband :-( Next time I'm definitely not sharing!
House of chocolate was beautiful. The atmosphere was ambiant with some cool music. The service was friendly and helpful. The food was delicious. I had the hot chocolate pudding - it was so yummy. The prices reflect the amount and quality of the food.
I will be back again to this cafe. Highly recommended.
Been here many times (and latenight close to closing times too) and all i wanted to say is the staffs are always friendly and they never try to shussshhh is away or rush us. Comfy ambiance and of cz desserts are always scrummy :)
This place is FCUKING AMAZING!!!!! If I could, I'd come here everyday! 😍 found this place on Zomato and knew i had to check this place out.
Everything on the menu looked delicious. Wanted to order everything but that wouldn't be ideal lol. I eventfully ordered a cookie sandwich -chose green tea ice cream and a berry berry waffle. Yeah they were both for me and I had just had lunch 🙄
The cookie sandwich was presented nicely but it was just a cookie and ice cream. So nothing special. The ice cream was organic (so it says) and it was actually very nice. Green tea flavours were rich and were diluted like some places. The chocolate chip cookie wasn't just any cookie, they were "house made" so every "layer" within the cookie there was chocolate. So every bite, you're bound to get chocolate in it.
The berry berry waffle was amazing as well. The waffle itself was delicious. It wasn't floury like some places. Unsure what they put in it but it was just very good on its own without all that ice cream and sauce.
Safe to say I did get food coma after eating these two desserts 😵 but it was worth it.
I. LOVE. THIS. PLACE. 💯💯💯
Always come here for a really yummy peppermint hot chocolate (highly recommend) and Eton mess dessert it's so yum with ice cream, berries, whipped cream and meringue all smashed together! Soo good
This place is amazing and a must when visiting Takapuna. Really well priced for the high quality. Recommend trying the chocolate brownie and chocolate caramel slice with ice cream... mmmm might have to come in tonight now.
Apple pudding is AMAZING! But what a tiny little pudding on a giant wooden board. The other dessert was more or less just caramel icecream, not quite worth the expensive pricetag. The smores cake was yum overall even though the cake portion was a bit dry.
The desserts took forever to come and service was a little non-existent. Definitely went at a busy time but we weren't served water the whole time we were there. I'd be fine if they just had a water station for self service.
The coffee was fairly tasteless also, guess thats not their specialty.
Not entirely sure if I'd return just because the cafe seems abit unorganised even though the atmosphere is very nice.
My girlfriend was really keen to visit the House of Chocolate Dessert Cafe, but we were a bit disappointed with our first experience.
We bought a range of chocolates from the cabinet; a mix of dark chocolate, raspberry, and peppermint. My girlfriend enjoyed her raspberry chocolate, but we were disappointed with the rest; leaving us feeling that they weren't what we expected, and over priced.
We thought we'd give it another go, and were much more impressed with our second visit. We ordered hot chocolates and a range of individual chocolates from the cabinet. The staff were friendly and the hot chocolates rich and filling.
From our latest experience, I'd recommend the House of Chocolate Dessert Cafe to friends, family, and followers.
Awesome place for all Chocoholics! Great Waffle Great Hot Chocolate Pudding!
Those are what I have tried so far. Will try more soon.
We went on a Friday night and it was packed!
Such a delicious looking menu.
Got their Belgium dark hot chocolate and it was heavenly
Friend got some green tea ice cream and that was very good
Was too fully to try their waffles and cakes but will definitely come back!
I reckon this is a better version of the chocolate boutique cafe in parnell
Lots of seats + cosy atmosphere + reasonable prices and great service :)
The service and dessert here is amazing. So far I've had the banana split, peanut butter cheesecake and berry chocolate cheesecake. All delicious. The chocolate, however, is pretty average.
Came here for dessert after having dinner at Takapuna. It's down a short arcade off Hurstmere Road, so keep your eye out for the turn! They have a fantastic range of chocolate products, and so obviously if you're coming here, make sure you try out their chocolate-based desserts. We enjoyed some waffles with ice cream, and cake, and shared a cappuccino. The coffee was a little burnt, but the desserts were simply amazing. If you get the waffles, they're probably large enough to share between two, so if you're a sweet tooth on a diet, try that out instead of getting on per person. They also sell a range of other chocolate products which look pretty amazing and could make for a nice gift.
Take advantage of the the Entertainment Book if you have it - you can get 25% off the total bill when dining, up to a value of $20.
We ordered the chocolate waffles they were very nice and for a good price. The shop was open till quite late and the menu has gluten free options which was good.
I want to give a perfect score for their yummy chocolate cake, creamy ice cream, friendly staffs, and pretty interior. Definitely will come back!!👌🏼
Came in tonight with a friend after having dinner in Takapuna. We just happened upon your amazing cafe by chance. Was thrilled to find a place for coffee and dessert open late. Everyone was super friendly and the food was great. Told the hubby about it when I got home and he is very keen to join me the next time, which will be very soon.
I have come here quite a few times and it is often a Sunday morning whine to the partner to come for brunch!! The staff are friendly and laidback, and the deco of the store is awesomely vintage. I'd recommend pretty much anything on the menu - the cookie sandwich, chocolate tart, hot chocolate pudding and chocolate waffles are amazing (not all eaten on the same date!). The prices are not too hefty either. Would definitely recommend for chocolate lovers.
Had the Chocoholic waffles and it was absolutely fantastic. You get a generous amount and the presentation is impeccable. Tasted phenomenal also, the brownie pieces that come with it are the best I've ever had. Very reasonably priced also, friendly and classy environment and kiwi owned.
Came here late Saturday night (open till 10 I think) defiantly recommend the hot chocolate pudding!! I had two!! With there very nice ORGANIC vanilla ice cream! And berries! Only suggestion would be to Serv it piping hot! And to be open a bit later as I saw many people had to be turned away. Also we often would like to come after dinner however sometimes that's very late
I LOVE this place! Not only their food are great but the service is always pleasant. I would definitely recommend their eton mess (but with vanilla ice cream). They have great selection of ice cream (Kohu road and Ben & Jerry's) and their late closing hours are a big plus!
Such a big fan of their famous Waffles & Homemade Chocolate Moose! The tea selection is amazing, and the service made me feel super welcomed ! Love this place, definitely a destination for first dates #Valentines
One of the best chocolate place in our city.
The hot chocolate is to die for.... love every of sip it... and always go back for same.
Definitely a good place for chocolate delights and goodie like cakes and desserts. Just had a dessert cake the other day with banana cream icing and peanut butter filling.... yumilicious
Must must try
It is an amazing place with a warm and homey ambiance. I was so grumpy that day, and the place truly cheered me up. I had a nice mocha there. Very rich and nice. They sell handmade chocolate, and many kinds of cakes that seem of a good quality. The owners/waiters are quite nice and friendly. I'll definitely go there again.
Came across this place in Takapuna down an arcade. Very quiet for a Friday night but that meant we were served pretty fast. The yummiest apple pudding with custard and salted caramel ice-cream is highly recommended!
We ordered Blueberry Mascarpone & Banana Chocolate waffles ...really yummies!! Generous portion and nice presentation, so it´s a good value for money ( $12-$14 each) Good selection of tea & coffee as well. Calm & Comfy atmosphere. We´ll come back again!
Enjoyes this place, a little hidden but busy place. The waffle portions are decent, maybe a great idea to share. The service was timely and staff were friendly. A little hard to find.
Food ordered:
Hot Chocolate w/ Wild Peppermint Shot (x2)
Assorted chocolates (x6)
Bill: $21
Big tummy: I caught up with a friend here, as this place had caught our eye previously and we wanted to check it out. Plus, it's located right next to the big Takapuna carpark, so it provides a nice little location to escape the bustling Sunday markets. The layout is really nice and cosy, with comfy chairs and a pleasant atmosphere... it really suits the chilled Taka vibe.
As a sucker for anything chocolate mint, I was stoked to see they offered hot chocolate with a shot of peppermint. My friend ordered a regular sized drink, whilst I ordered a large. Hers arrived first and we assumed that must be the large one, until a giant glass was placed in front of me. Seriously, considering the drinks are only $5 approx, the portions are massive compared to some places. And they don't just fill the cup with foam either (Movenpick and Columbus, I'm looking at you!). Our drinks looked fantastic, smelled even better and the taste... pure heaven. One of the best chocolate mint drinks I've ever had. I'd happily come back to HoC just for the hot chocolate alone.
My girlfriend wasn't with me on this trip, so I made sure to buy her some chocolates while I was there (usually the chocolates are $2 a piece, but when you buy a drink you get the first two chocolates for $1 instead).
Little tummy: My boyfriend didn't take me to HoC (how sad), but he did bring some chocolates home for me. I'm kinda fussy with chocolates in that I don't like typical flavours like caramel, strawberry etc, so you'd think the exotic flavours at HoC would be right up my alley. He bought me an assortment that included peanut cluster, cappuccino, chocolate mint, hazelnut praline among others. To be honest I found the chocolates to be average. Like they weren't bad, but they just didn't really stand out for me, compared to chocolates from other places. He assured me that the drinks from HoC are ridiculously good though, so we'll likely go there for me to try their drinks and ice creams.
This place is a hidden gem! One of the best gelato in Auckland! Neck and neck with giapo! Their chocolate caramel slice is really good! Everything is reasonably priced with lovely afternoon sun and comfy lounge chairs
First things first. There was one time when I came here with my partner. The waitress seated us and said she would bring us menus. We sat there for literally 15 minutes looking around hoping someone would notice us. It was quite busy but seriously, all the staff just avoided us like they didn't want to serve us. So we went to KiwiYo.
The other handful of times, I've stopped by to purchase some takeaway chocolates. I love that they have sugar free chocolates in the glass cabinet sitting among the other delicious chocolates. Salted caramel is my favourite, followed closely by the Creme de menthe or hazelnut! Delicious.
My latest experience here was wonderful. I came to the chocolate drop cafe with a bunch of foodies after dinner at Dante's Pizzeria. We all took a seat and we were handed some menus. Sarah Forsyth ordered these boss ass waffles. THE WAFFLES WERE SO GOOD ($13 FOR A HUMUNGOUS PORTION + PRESENTATION WAS 10/10). AND THE SALTED CARAMEL ICECREAM - TO DIE FOR! I LOVE KOHU ROAD SO MY TASTEBUDS LEAPT WITH JOY WHEN I ATE MY ICECREAM! I also had a scoop of the cookies and cream; I'd have to say it's one of the best cookies and cream I've tasted.
Came here for a mean sweaty treaty hit from Nam!!! Got a tub of the Kohu Rd dark choc and cockies and cream ice cream meeeeeeeean! And some biscotti - they sell my shit yeeeeeeow! Great little vibe and music all Art Deco layout and they had a mad selection in the cabinets
Absolutely LOVE this gorgeous cafe! Been at least four times in the last month or two and haven't had a bad experience yet. The hot chocolate is delish (with non-dairy milk alternatives) and wouldn't make a visit without one, best in Auckland by far. And then there's the food...amazing! Slowly on a mission to work through the menu but the hot chocolate pudding is most definitely recommended. The service is always friendly, helpful and bubbly and nothing but accommodating. The friend's I have been with have felt the exact same way, even some German International Students made a comment about there being nothing like it in Berlin, it's that good. We intend to go back again and again and would recommend it to anyone at all, whether you're a chocolate fanatic or not, they're sure to have something to satisfy.
Love their waffle selection! Nice place to go for dessert. Price $12+ reasonable. My only complaint really is their coffee - depends who makes it. Sometimes it's so damn bitter as thought it's been pressed too hard - not sure! But their chocolates are a winner!
Me and my friends went here today because we heard good reviews about it. We ordered hot chocolates and I would say it is to die for. It is thick, creamy and the sweetness is just right. Me and my best friend ordered berry berry waffle and french toast waffle. Both tastes amazing however the maple syrup on the french toast waffle is too sweet.
Overall, we had a great time and would definitely come back for a round 2!
Relaxing place, great ambience.
Just went here awhile ago and ordered French toast waffle with hot chocolate.
The hot chocolate tasted very creamy, like a whittakers version of hot chocolate. I'm sure those whose got a sweeth tooth will enjoy this beverage; albeit was a little too sweet for my liking. I was able to finish my french toast waffle, but would say that they can improve on their maple syrup as it tasted a bit different? ( similar to star anis, which doesn't really float my boat). Overall, a good experience and would recommend for chocolate lovers out there.
Very nice place that sells sweet treats. Plenty of seating available. Convenient location in Takapuna. The chocolate and strawberry ice cream was delicious. Friendly staff and great service. Decent prices albeit small portion.
Cute little place on the shore for the sweet tooth. I don't think there's any other dessert place like this on the shore so it's nice there's somewhere that we can go to now whenever we want dessert but don want to drive too far out. The place is quite cosy, good place to chill and just enjoy cake/ waffles.
I sincerely recommend. I took the bagel with creamy mushrooms and bacon and a regular hot chocolate. It was so delicious. I am still dreaming about it 😋.
Great dessert place, certainly much needed in Takapuna area. Tried it the first time and we have been coming back every since. We recommended it to friends who liked it as well.
Got a box of chocolate from House of Chocolate. It was good but compared to some other stores, it seems to be ordinary. The shape and the taste were fine.
What a lovely little cafe! It has so much character, such lovely staff and incredible food! The atmosphere was perfect for a dessert cafe; calm and classy. Will definitely be coming back here and recommending to friends!

Went here around Christmas time and the place looked soo nice. Well decorated and spacious. Lots of seating. I got one of their waffles and it was okay for the price. But it's nice to have a dessert place like this on Hurtsmere.
The place is full of chocolate and cakes! The chocolates looked so delicate. We ordered a cake and a chocolate shake, they were tasty. The price is not sharp, especially the cakes, very affordable! The service was friendly and fast despite being busy.
It is next to a few Korean cuisine restaurants, so we got our main and dessert all at the same stretch of shops, which was very convenient!
I visited here with a friend while in NZ for work. We had dinner elsewhere and stopped here for a dessert treat. The selection was huge and difficult to decide which to get. We settled in the end on sticky date pudding and banoffee alaska. Both did not at all disappoint - totally delectable. While here it was busy but it was a Thursday night. If you're in the area, it's well worth stopping with friends for a treat.
We had planned to come here for dessert once we knew we were having dinner in the area.
The place was full when we got there but the tables outside were empty so we just sat out in the cold. We got menus and once ready ordered inside. There are quite a few options, from the pre made desserts, to the amazing waffles, to the special desserts like the chocolate ball.
As expected the chocolate ball came out with hot chocolate sauce which you drizzle over the ball to release the ice cream. It was super sweet and super tasty. Only thing I didn't like were the pineapple pieces since they were quite sour. Everything else was nice. i have a real sweet tooth so it was nice for me but it might be a bit too rich for others if they eat it by themselves.
Always a treat when we come by.
Edit: Waffles are nice. Good crisp on the outside. The vegan chocolate ball was very dark and not very sweet.
Amazing design of chocolates and desserts, a nice cafe with wide selections for a sweet tooth. Great service from the staff too..
Highly recommend. Friendly staff and delicious desserts. The chocolate cake is moist and very tasty. My favourite bonbon flavours are the "passion & plum sherbet" and the "blueberry" in a heart format but I guess this one is special for mother's Day as I couldn't find at the menu. Ps.: The picture is the "black forest dessert" not the chocolate cake.
Super packed place with a wait time of 30-40 minutes for the kitchen on Friday night. We decided to have the cabinet menu instead with coffee. Tasted good but was a bummer as we have had other dessert in the past which were super fancy and we were hoping to have some of those from the kitchen menu.
Delightful nicely presented desserts in North Shore area. The portions are huge. It is good to share one plate between two people otherwise it might be too much. The chocolate ball is my favourite from their selection. You can also get variety of chocolate bonbons and bars to take home.
Amazing place for any sweet lovers. The chocolate ball was the highlight however, we would recommend sharing one as even as a chocoholic I had to throw in the towel around 3/4 of the way through. Really amazing and beautiful insides of the venue
Awesome waffles and beverage. Friendly staff and a romantic atmosphere at dinner with dim lighting. Perfect for a date night. Highly recommend their chocolate drinks and ice cream too.
Came here twice and will definitely come back again in the future! Just an absolute delicious treat for afternoon tea time. Or really anytime. Waffles were exceptionally mouth watering. Just a delight honestly
Got various delicious desserts and All highly recommend. Think would be easier to eat if bananas were peeled though in the Banana split. Overall Would visit again
Very nice place to go for a dessert in Takapuna. Good tea selection, delicious waffles. Apple pie and chocolate mousse are amazing 😍
Came here yesterday. Had a dark chocolate mocha, flat white and a slice of mocha cheesecake. The dark chocolate mocha was the best mocha I have ever tasted. The dark chocolate flavour was very good and doesnt make the mocha too sweet which just goes well together in the drink. The cheesecake was also very good. Nice creamy and also not overly sweet. Will definitely be back.

The place you cannot help yourself. The ice cream have 10 plus flavor. Each one is fabulous the biggest problem is hard to pick the one you want. The waffles OMG ——- once you try you will love it. During last three days we have been twice——OMG, my weight boost but I still like to there after meal. I am highly recommend all the people to try this place. VH
Pretty good desserts from kitchen. Cabinet desserts and cakes are okay but not that great.
Good place for dessert in Takapuna for a date with outdoor seating.
Our go to for this place is the Bourbon Butterscotch Pecan on Waffle. Great taste and worth the money. Highly recommend this place if you love chocolate!
Amazing banoffeee - just the perfect amount of sweetness. The poached Fejoa and Apple waffle is a very interesting dessert combo - for the not so sweet dessert experience. Will be back for more
A nice dessert cafe. Ordered the hazelnut waffles, and the waffles were homemade, and ice cream was creamy. Hardly any hazelnuts were used in their homemade nutella though (of which a very small portion is given), which was a bit disappointing.
