Great pizza great food and great service. Nothing not to like! Definitely a must visit once quarantine ends!
Seriously, what is in your marinara sauce? It's delicious!
Sal’s I guess has the best tasting pepperoni pizza for a fast food chain here in New Zealand, though I am not sure if they are categorized as fast food I regard them as one because I you just need a slice you can grab a hot one in matter of seconds, but don’t get me wrong they do cook everything fresh and when you order a whole pizza then you will have to wait for a bit. I tried a lot of pepperoni pizza here and nothing comes close to what Sal’s is offering size wise and taste wise. The serving sizes are huge and I bet two slices will satisfy you, my daughter who is a pizza fanatic can eat up to 4 slices from the competitor brands but this one seems like she gave up after 1 and tried to push another 1/2 of the pizza as she really loves it. The flavour as well is amazing, the taste of pepperoni is strong, the cheese is too gooey and the pizza dough is perfectly crisp and chewy. We already dined in Sal’s multiple times and the pepperoni pizza are always spot on regardless of what branch we are in, unlike other pizza chains where flavour tends to vary from branch to branch.
I always love coming here! The pizzas are good, average customer service, I love the ambience. The prices are quite reasonable but the taste of the pizza is worth. The place has lost a bit of its comfortability and interior design or ambience compared to a few years when I lived around the area, but it is still a good local pizza place.
This branch isn't as good as the others. The base of the pizza was quite thick compared to what you normally get. We made a largeish phone order (5 pizzas and 15 garlic knots) and the wait time was 50 minutes.
Apart from the base, the flavours were similar to the other ones although the sausage was cut the long way around. The knots were soft and tasty but not as garlicky.
Just your local classic spot for some massive slices of pizza. Consistently good, ambiance is nice and cosy and if the pizza is not on display it is made to order. Pretty good place money wise as well.
Been to Sal’s multiple times, mostly to this Takapuna branch. The pizza is always delicious, cheese is my favourite but they are all very good. The garlic knots and mozerella sticks are also delicious however a bit pricey for how much they offer as portions. Would still go however, really good spot to just share a pizza with some friends.
Nothing beats grabbing 2x slices and couple of garlic knots and head down to the beach to enjoy with a quiet beer 😍😍. The garlic knots are so good.

They should just call it Sal's Wing not Sal's Pizza
Ofcourse their pizza is ok too, but the wings are just way too gooooooood. Perfect size perfect sauce! Garlic knots are nice as a side with the wings not with the pizza. Too much flour is bad for you
Went there for lunch with my friend. We shared a $15 combo (2 slices, 3 garlic and a can of coke) there were only 3 pizza flavour to choose from, the taste were good just like any other Sal’s. Plenty of parking and spacious seating.
I had the Buffalo Chicken Pizza. It was very delicious and hot, straight from the oven. I will be definitely coming back for more. This is probably one of the best pizza restaurant I have been in Auckland,
Favorite pizza in Auckland! You won't get much closer to New York pizza in New Zealand than Sal's! The owners are awesome and so are all of the staff. Bring a friend cause the pizza's are massive!! (and delicious) :)
Best takeaway pizza you can find. If I could I would eat a million of their mozzarella sticks! Favourite pizza to order by far is the classic pepperoni. Defiantly a meal to share with friends and also you can spilt the payment which makes it cheaper if you go with others. Love the theme of the place too.
Definitely one of the better outlets to visit. Apart from it being right up the road from the beach the guys who work there are relaxed and really friendly.
Just went there tonight for pizza and their pepperoni is as good as I remember it.
I've never been to any of the other sal's locations but the pizzas at this one are always delicious, I always stop in and grab a plain cheese or pepperoni slice when ever I'm passing by, the menu maybe on the light side but they make up for it in speed and service, one of the few places where the staff always look happy which makes for an amazing atmosphere.
Great food great taste definitely will go again. The cheese pizza and a pepperoni wheel were amazing. What I like about this place is they serve pizza by slices as well
I love Sals chicken and tomato pizza it's so good and tasty, the bigger pizzas area bit expensive but they are worth it because they are amazing
This is probably one of my favourite sals locations. I've been here a few times and always recommend it not only for its food but location and staff. It feels as if it follows a good standard of cleanliness.

Another branch on the Shore that we like to get our Sals from. We love their Wings Wednesday, buy 1 wings get another wings free!! So worth it. Original pepperoni pizza is our to go option. Garlic knots is irresistable 3 for $3. Call/order online in advance as they can get very busy and wait times can be quite long.
My daughter told me the pizza in Sal's was very good.
This day my son requested to have pizza for our lunch.
So we decided to go for Sal's!
We ordered 1/2 cheese plus chicken and 1/2 pepperoni 18" pizza, it cost us $32.
It was too large for 4 of us (we consider small eaters).
The pizza was juicy which I liked caused usually pizzas were baked till dry up but it was too salty!
Got some of sal's Buffalo sauce to put on my homemade pizza, the service was fantastic, and the sauce was delicious! Their Buffalo sauce comes in two flavors; Original and Spicy, Original being mild spicy and Spicy being Hot spicy, Both of which are delicious :)
Pizzas are amazing. No way to compare Dominos and pizza huts. You have to try this. Comfortable dining served by friendly staff. It's pricey.....but it is worth.
Went here for dinner with my partner last night and it was just like it had been the other times we have been. The pizza is good though slightly too greasy and the service is fast but pleasant. The addition of Ben and Jerrys ice cream is a smart one as it is pure heaven. Will be back again!

Buffalo Wings (x2)
Pepperoni Pizza
Pepperoni Wheel

Bill: $54
Big tummy: Wednesday cravings for hot wings are always going to lead you to one place. Not only do Sal's do some of the best wings around, but their 2-for-1 wings deal on Wednesdays are too good to pass up. As usual with our visits to Sal's, we ended up ordering too much (no prizes for guessing what is for lunch today). I know $54 seems heeeaps when spent on pizza, but their pizzas really are among the best in Auckland (if a little oily) and the amount of food you get is insane. Between the two of us, we had no chance of finishing what we ordered, barely getting through one lot of wings and half the pizza. Sal's is still definitely the place to go if you feel like gorging yourself on pizza and hot wings. I happened to notice their weekend special too - $15 for "all you can eat" pizza on Sat/Sun between 12-2.30pm. Bring it on!!!
Little tummy - Sal's have some of the tastiest hot wings in Aucks, so of course once we remembered it's Wednesday, we made a beeline to our local store to make the most of their 2-for-1 deal. I tried a pepperoni wheel this time too, though it didn't really do anything for me - I preferred the garlic knots from last time. Again I found the pizza to be a bit too oily and salty. Ironically, for a pizza place, I find that the best things from Sal's are the wings and garlic knots. I know my boyfriend wants to try the "all-you-can-eat" pizza special at some point too - God help me hahaha.
Woohoo, great NY pizza here!!
Ordered a slice of Pepperoni pizza, a pepperoni wheel and a garlic scroll. All delish!
The Pepperoni wheel was full of stringy mozz cheese and garlic scroll was chocka of garlic who I love but probably not the people around me when back at work ;)
Hugest slice of pizza, living up to its NY name...
Great place to grab a New York style pizza and buffalo wings on the go. We came here and ordered a whole pizza with half covered in pepperoni and the other half with sausage. We also ordered a large size of original buffalo wings. A slight but not unpleasant wait for our orders which we opted to devour parkside by boot campers. The irony wasn't lost on us, and it sure made a grand slice all the more indulgent as we watched burpee after burpee. All we could contribute were belly satisfied pepperoni burps. ;)
Delicious pizzas and a great place to bring the kids. Really fresh and a crisp base with a good moisture content. The lactation is good near the beach and the staff are friendly. Nice cheese toppings and a good choice of sizes. Will come again.
The pizza is very oily but the slices are big and the restaurant is decorated like an American place. They offer takeout too which is convenient. The pizzas are big enough to share between 4 people at least and are filling.
Had the delicious vegetarian pizza and my date had the pepperoni. So great. Excellent customer service. So chilled out. 🍕🍕👌🏽✌🏽️will be back!
WOW. The pepperoni pizza from Sal's is the stuff i crave. ALL. THE. TIME. Seriously, it's haunting me. The garlic knots are also to die for - so crunchy on the outside whilst being soft and doughy on the inside. I love this place, even though I can only eat it occasionally due to the price. Although if it was cheaper, i'd probably be living off the stuff. The service has been good every time i've eaten here, and the pizzas are whipped up fresh and relatively quick. This joint is in a great location, right next to the beach with a bunch of parking across the road. I would recommend this place to any pizza lover. Sal's hands down wins best pizza in New Zealand.
Delicious and big pizzas. The drinks come with the price you pay for the pizza. Close to the beach. So you could have your pizza on the benches next to the beach. Ask them not to warm your slice up too much. Doesn't have much variety though....
This is by far my favourite pizza place! They never fail to disappoint me at all! The service is very friendly and quick. Overall very happy with the outcome of my meal! Thank you Sals!
I love sals!! Best pizza and the size is even better. Price is quite high for a pizza, but it is definitely worth it! Staff are always nice, and great atmosphere.
ANYONE ELSE FINDS THE GUY ON THE PHONE WITH THE DEEP SCREAMO VOICE COOL?! Anyways, I freaking love pizza. What is life without pizza! Am also a huge fan of thin based pizza. Definitely one of the best pizzeria in NZ. Service is just okay, the staff are not really friendly at all. Price is definitely reasonable as the large pizza is massive (can be shared between 2-3 people or even for a family if you have smaller appetites) and if you compare their gigantic to the large pizzas in restaurants (which costs 20-30 bux) it is definitely waaaay cheaper and tastier! However, they only have 5 pizza topping and the only one that I order and like is the pepperoni (as I didn't like the flavours - vege and crumbed chicken was bland).
Not a huge fan of thin-base pizzas, but Sal's has good pizzas and interesting toppings which go well with their bases. Personal favourite is the tomato and chicken pizza as it's got the most interesting toppings and it's also the least greasy one. :)
All Sals are much the same; reliable and an easy way to sort out a dinner. Greasy fatty cheesy salty pepperoni pizza would make my day any day.
Friendly staff, great service, very generous servings. They always have a full house which is good to see. Would definitely recommend them for a Friday night feast with friends.
Casual afterword pizza and beer.
The pizzas are huge so not something you want to try tackle alone.
But never the less very tasty.
Garlic nots are a great bite if you are in a rush.
Really really love my visits here. How is it possible that a plain cheese pizza could be soooooooooo good?! And dont get me started on the garlic knots! Keeo up the good work!
If you are after an American style pizza this is perfect. Large, cheesy, greasy goodness. Certainly good novelty value getting a large pizza there -they're massive! Wouldn't recommend it to the health conscious or those wanting Italian style pizzas. Basic diner style atmosphere -casual.
If you are a New Yorker, or an American, this is the only place to get pizza in New Zealand. I've lived here for seven years and have never found a good pizza, either there is no sauce, or no cheese, or too many toppings. Sals gets it right every time. The best pizza, my mouth is watering just thinking about it! Try it for sure you will not be disappointed!
Best Pizza in Auckland by far. This is different pizza than most Kiwi's are used to so it's going to be a little different.
"Bought a Peperoni pizza today and by the time we got to the beach with delicate handling a large amount of the molten topping had migrated off the pizza onto the box." The toppings are melted cheese with real pepperoni (pork only, no venison, e.g it has fat) it's greasy! The grease is the best part, you obviously don't get it. Try holding the box flat.
"the pizzas are so sloppy and greasy and all u can taste is the oil,and when u try to take a bite of the pizza all the toppings fall off." Once pizza slices are the proper size you can't pick them up like a ceramic tile, that's normal. You have to fold them in half lengthwise.
Honestly....this is like eating spam all your life and complaining the first time you're served roast beef.
Way to go Sal's, can't wait for my next visit.
Been here a couple of times, best to wait and get the pizza straight from the oven rather than the slices reheated (great for kids though that can't wait). Pizzas are huge and a lot a nicer than the regular Dominoes or Piza Hut ones.
Bloody good pizza.
1 pizza was more than enough for me and the husband.
The only thing that I thought was disappointing was the extra toppings were a little expensive.
The absolute best pizza in NZ!!! Love the 18" pizzas which are soooo HUGE & the prices are soooo cheap!!! Been to all the shops and they're all great!! Cool Manager at K'Rd. Keep the good work up guys!!
This is New York style pizza at it's best. I go approximately once a month with a friend who has a mutual interest in Sal's.
We have been to all 3 Sal's stores (Commerce Street, Karangahape Road, and The Strand) and this one definitely has the best seating of them all if you want to eat in. This one isn't as busy as the CBD shops, but it does get fairly busy at times.
I would recommend trying the pepperoni wheels. Another review here states that the pizza is greasy & oily ... yeah, the Pepperoni one is definitely the culprit! Despite that, I find myself going back again, usually having the other pizzas.
If you're looking for the best pizza on the shore - go to Sal's! My partner and I go regularly, and the food is always great, service is good, atmosphere is welcoming and it is reasonably priced for what you get. Only complaint would be the lack of seating, but we have been happy to get our pizza takeaway on occasion :)
As a pizza fan, Sal's at Takapuna is a great place to cjill and eat after a day in the local cinema or having fun in the nearby beach. Great ambience, cool staff and delicious pizzas. Highly recommend this place to anyone bringing in a group of 4 to 6 friends to enjoy a large pizza and some drinks. Love this place!
LOVE love love Sal's. Decent thini crust, american-style pizza at its best. They're enooooormous, piping hot and beautifully cheesy. They're pretty quick to come out and they do takeaway too. Each pizza feeds easily 4, 3 at a push and 2 only if you're super duper hungry so they're very good value. only a few flavours available but that makes the menu decisions easier. They do half half pizzas too if you're always having arguments with your partner about which topping to go for! Amazing for grabbing a slice and eating it on the beach in the evening.
Staff dude was super friendly and service was fast.
I usually have higher expectations from by the slice pizza options but it is also a good way to try a wider range of flavours - will definitely be back to try more.
Service was Fantastic! Rufas was friendly and could help with any questions we through his way, pizza team is always awesome there and pizza & zeppolies was super tasty!!
Excellent service by Tosif. We loved the pizza he made it perfectly even though he was alone in the store. Will visit again
First time visiting Sal's. Will visit them again. Value for money
Amazing visit here, great staff and food. Kudos to the younger worker here who goes the extra mile to make customers happy 10/10 service! Will definitely be back ◡̈
It was so good 😊 better crust texture at their other branch though nonetheless enjoyed a yummy slice of heaven 😁🍕
Sal's Takapuna's location, in my opinion, is excellent - close to the bus station, within the "happening"strip snd very close proximity to the beach - I can actually see the ripples and swell and hear the waves when I step outside.
The branch's interior is very similar to the other branches - equipped withbig television units tuned in to ESPN - a haven for sports enthusiasts.
Staffs here are also very courteous and made my dining experience pleasant ♥️
Finally! After only visiting the Queen Street and the K Road branch where sitting down for a meal felt like squeezing into a NYC cab, I found the Sal's Pizza branch at Takapuna which boasted a large comfortable restaurant, complete with outdoor seating and even two large TVs for convenient sports viewing.
Staff were friendly and efficient, providing table service after we plonked ourselves down for a late lunch on a rainy Sunday.
It was warm and inviting indoors and we stayed for about 45 minutes, enjoying our meal.
Meatball pizza was nice and hot with even some stringy cheese action - parmesan cheese, chili flakes, and oregano provided for liberal sprinkling. Pepperoni wheels were also delicious and the regular buffalo wings were just enough for two.
Worth it and even worth the drive across the Bridge just for a sit down meal. 5 stars!
Ohhh how hard it is to resist those tempting, mouth watering pizza rolls 🤤 haha. Alas, we actually ended up just getting 2 slices of heated up because we just had lunch a few hours ago, but getting some pepperoni as we walked along the beach was too good smelling to pass up. This is a nicer and more spacious Sal's than the one on Fort St in the CBD that I'm used to; there's a lot more booths and open window tables to enjoy the sun outside or the sports on two or three TVs inside. The only thing that could make it slightly better is finding the same toppings (parmesan, Italian herbs, chili flakes) on every table instead of having to look around for the one you want.
Had a half which was more than enough for us! Great pizza a bit pricey but worth the money!
Great family friendly place. The young guy on the till was really helpful and friendly for such a young kid he's doing a great job! The food was awesome, easily the best Sal's I've been to, the pizza was so nice and crispy on the bottom and they were generous with the toppings.
Always good pizza. Guy on the counter is always really nice 👍
Buffalo chicken pizza which I ordered really delicious and Customer service was excellent as well.
