We were walking by Lake Taupo when Tejana Cantina's lovely painted walls, little picket fence and lively music caught our attention. We were super happy to find a Mexican place with tons of vegetarian and vegan options. Between 8 of us, we polished off two portions or guacamole-chips, two portions of jalapeno poppers, four naked burritos, two dressed burritos and a three-taco plate. Everything was super tasty and I loved their playlist. Definitely the place to be after a long walk around Lake Taupo.
The staff was super warm and their service was super quick.

Great portion sizes, food was delicious, we had the nachos and burrito bowl. Staff were friendly. No one else there on a Friday night which was a bit odd!
Great Mexican decor and the sangria definitely went down a treat. A little disappointed with the lack of hot sauce selection and authenticity when it came to the food. I love my hot sauce and had to sneak my own in on my second visit. I guess the moral of the story is...I went back for more. It's also right next to the Base Backpackers so it's in a great location for the target audience.
It's a backpacker bar with a authentic Mexican menu that's on point. We had the Tacos and they were 10/10. Go for the house made corn tortillas, they are soft and gluten free. The pulled meats where tasty and not overpowering. The taco fills was generously 85% meat, I love that!
Amazing food and amazing service! Those are the words I would use to use to sum this place up! I had a quesadilla which was great and only for $12! It filled you up! But I think that was just a 1 night thing. The Tacos were great and had fresh veges which was great. There was quick service expect for 1 item, but they apologized which was really nice. Definitely would go again. And is one of the best restaurants in taupo
Absolutely amazing Mexican food and drinks. Having been to Mexico this food is the best Mexican food in the country. The chef is from South American so knows how to cook authentic Mexican. Prices are cheap for the size of the portions. The drinks are great too, the Margaritas are perfect. The bar manager Moon and the staff were the best. Also after about 9pm the restaurant turns into the best night club in town. 10/10.

GReat food and lovely service!!! They were crazy busy but the bartender explained this when we arrived and said there was a wait on food which we were fine with, the food came out faster than expected and was AMAZING, it was an all round lovely evening we left full and happy
So i had the fish taco which was very tasty, i think 2 is probably enough for a meal, one was not enough and I ordered more food. Nice restaurant but it gets busy and then there isn't enough seats.
