Great pizza and desserts. The inside is always nice and tidy. The managers and chefs are always nice and polite. The outside area is nice on a sunny day.
The Roundabout a beautifully restored pub. Warm, sunny & palatial with a cracking garden bar in the rear. The garden bar has covered/uncovered sections and is completely enclosed & safe for wee ones
The food is fair to middling, which is to be expected as this is a pub that serves food. I'd certainly go again - a great spot for a pint in Tawa
My partner and i ate here for dinner about 6 months ago, We have always wanted to eat here as it always seems really busy and full when we drive past. I must admit, when eating out - a pub is never my first choice so i'm not really sure what the standard should be at.
I will however start with the decor of the place, it was a beautiful sunny day when we went and the place had plenty of natural light, I liked the rustic feel of the bar and wooden floors without taking away from the class of the place
It was busy and from what we can tell it usually is...... so perhaps not the most romantic and intimate place to eat. if you don't mind listening to people having a jolly good time then this is the place for you.
The food was a little more cost wise than i expected but the taste was incredible, i had a salmon filo for starter as well as the calamari, i could have just ordered another one of each of those as my main as i thoroughly enjoyed them. the filo is a must have dish!
The staff were friendly even though it was very busy the customer service was great, being able to see in to the kitchen from the restaurant is a nice touch, being able to put a face to the chef who cooked my meal made it a more personal experience for me (I'm not sure if this was done on purpose for this reason but if it was!- you nailed it)
I had a fish meal which was amazing but decided that next time instead of getting a main i'm just going to order the filo from the starters menu for my meal and the calamari for a starter (2 if i'm feeling piggy) i can't rave enough about them
overall it was a very nice and new dining experience for me that i really enjoyed :)
We go to the roundabout several times throughout the year. Love the interior and outdoor seating area. Service is sometimes hit and miss. The bar area is lovely. Most of the time the food is pretty good and filling. It's somewhere local that we bring guests to when we don't feel like cooking. I'm a steak lover and for the most part it's cooked very well and we really have nothing much to complain about. Thanks guys for some yummy dishes.
I went here with my family and everyone was very friendly and helpful. The only thing I could possibly fault was their seating arrangement. As a family of 5 we were in a very cramped corner. The food and service was all excellent, nothing took too long and we had a lovely time. I highly recommend it.
I called in for lunch recently. The fish of the day was great. Well cooked in every respect. The service was great from all staff.
The atmosphere cannot be beaten.
It is everything that you need.
I was amused by Chris' & Eddy's comment about the english barman. I have never found him grumpy but as he is Irish he probably gets grumpy at being called english. I get grumpy when people tell me I am english.
I have been to this restaurant/bar many times over a number of years and the food always been of a good standard. The only gripe I have had is with the unfriendly English bar man. All the other staff are lovely and welcoming but this guy is downright rude and most people I have spoken to feel the same way. I am unsure how he has lasted as long as he has. It is certainly a much more pleasant experience when he is not working. I can't understand why someone so rude and uncommunicative would want to work in a front line customer service job.
Visited The Roundabout early on a Monday evening and it was packed. There were several tables already reserved for large parties and the bar was busy. There were around fifteen of us but we got a table without problems.
We ordered pizza, mainly due to their special of two pizzas for $25. The food arrived promptly and was nicely presented on wooden boards. The toppings were great, lots of ingredients but not piled so high that they fell off as soon as you lifted a slice up to your mouth.
Despite the place being very busy the staff coped very well and the meals were excellent value. If there is a down side, it is that the staff are not cheerful or friendly, which is a must have quality in hospitality even in a local pub. But if you don't mind your pizza with a side of maudlin and melancholy, you can't go wrong at The Roundabout.
Went here for a 3 course meal with my partner the other evening.
Nothing to fault, all meals cooked to perfection and friendly staff.
Excellent value and portion sizes too, will happily go here again.
I've been here a few times. In general the food is of above average quality and the dining experience is above average with a warm and comfortable dining area inside and a lovely garden bar area for the warmer days and nights. My only niggle would be the prices for the food are above average which matches the quality but it never quites sits right with me paying restaurant prices at a "pub". Overall recommended especially on a cold winters night where its cosy inside but also on a warm summers evening where the garden bar is perfect too.
I love the food, the atmosphere is great and the wait staff have always been friendly.
Great value lunch meals that actually fill you up and there's a huge selection to choose from.
I've only ever had the steaks from the dinner menu and these always come cooked to perfection.
I recommend everyone I know to go try this place, I've never been disappointed.
Great place to end the week ...good hearty substantial tucker.
Yummy pudd and friendly atmosphere. Hard earnt money well spent! Cheers
I am a regular diner at this establishment and have always found the food to be of a high standard. My husband and I eat out alot and I can tell you no other place beats a roundabout brunch.Recently I went in for dinner and had a CBA Salad- Delicious! If I only had one thing to suggest it would be to have regular specials and maybe a menu change now and then.If you are looking for a great value meal look no further than the roundabout
I would also like to know if Susan U was having an off day when she wrote her review!Usually when you have so many issues you would approach the manager.Writing such a review is not a way to solve any issues you may have. You would find that had she approached anybody on the day it would have been sorted!
As a regular at The Roundabout, I really recommend having a meal there. I constantly find myself walking out of other establishments without eating as they don't contend. During the week they have a lunch deal of $13.50 and the meal sizes are great. My boyfriend and I often head down there as it's a great price for the student budget and we always walk away satisfied. During the hot summer days there is nothing better than sitting out in the garden bar with a cool drink. The lamb shanks on the dinner menu are also to die for, well worth trying.
As a regular diner at this establishment I have found the meals to be good quality and value. Their lunches are extremely popular. Staff is generally very pleasant and efficient but one of the bar staff could make an effort to look like he enjoys being there. Be warned. If you don't take tthe time to make a reservation for groups over four don't be disappointed if they are booked out.
I CANNOT tell you how good this place is!! Everything is perfect. If you looking for a place that feels like home you've found it. Don't walk, run. I got the steak, it was so amazing 👨🍳😘. "Chefs kiss".
I have never found a better cooked steak. Just had to buy the chef a drink. Nothing better than a great cooked steak.
My husband got a beef and bacon burger, pure bliss. My daughter, as fussy as she is loved her hot dogs and chips.
Fantastic staff, amazing service. Great atmosphere. Staff are friendly and know their customers. Food is excellent, with a good choice on the menu. 100% recommended.
This is a great little place off the main road that tends to miss out on a lot of foot traffic.
It’s quiet so you can talk and hear your mates, the foods great, the Guinness is a great pour and the staff are friendly. Had dinner there on Saturday night, and I’ll be back!
To the owner(s)... You have a very short (apology) lady that works for you. She is always friendly and an absolute shining STAR!
Let's start with the coffee (or mocha for the coffee addicts). Delicious. Perfect temp and perfect taste. The food was heavenly. Crunchy hashbrowns, perfectly poached eggs, and not too crispy bacon - just how I like it. I ordered the $10 breakfast which looked more like an $18 Auckland breakie, and my wife the $15 eggs Benedict. Add two $4 coffees and you've got yourself a cheap breakie that won't break the bank. Thanks team! We'll be back.
Lovely people and service, came for the quiz night fundraiser for my best friend Clare who’s going to a bowling competition in Sweden and they were amazing hosts! Thank you!
Great pub.. Authentic feeling once you enter.. Great staff.. Didn't order much food.. The one thing management need to do is.. Turn up the cooling into your keg room.. Tap beers were no where near to cold.. Please.. Look into it..
Amazing food , hubby had Scotch fillet, I had lemon pepper chicken salad
Apple crumble... home made ....yumm xxx
Reasonably priced big delicious pub meals. Cosy on a winter's night. Live rugby on. Not crowded or noisy. Pork belly 9/10 for the lady, bangers and mash 10/10 from the Scotsman cos of the Yorkshire puds. Salted caramel cheesecake for pudding! Happy little place, should've been to sooner.
Got Groupon deal to try out the food here for dinner with a friend, food is yummy and huge portion! Great value for money. Friendly staff as well :)
Decent food for a very reasonable price. Great drink selection, and friendly staff.
Didn't eat but cool atmosphere
Loved this place, staff are excellent and friendly
Music was great little bit a time warp witch I really enjoyed, even sung a few (staff didn't mind)
Great coffee, a good pint of Guinness and wholesome good value food
Whiskey tasting, great value and learnt a lot!
