Quality of food and coffee of this tiny, take-out-only establishment is superb. Tirau is welly represented by coffee outlets, but they're a mixed bag. Often it's a lottery because of a lack of consistency. Hopefully the Baker's espresso will be just as good the next time I drop by.
Speed of service and price point for quality were outstanding. It was like a baker and their family had sat down and meticulously taste tested all the food in their bakery - to the point the pie was the perfect temperature (very rare). It was open early too which made it convenient for us. World class is Tirau!
One of the best pies we’ve had, the steak and mushroom is a must! Saw their pies and sausage rolls come out fresh out of the oven, and loved the warm message on the coffees. Must visit this little shop if you are driving past.
The Kai justifies the prices. Best mince and cheese pie I have ever tasted. And my hubby enjoyed his custard square. Get in quick but not Monday or Tuesdays as they're closed. Definitely a great place to stop for your lunch and eat on the way to wherever you're going. 👍🏽
Quite possibly the best custard/fruit danish I've ever had. The custard wasn't overly sweet like most, and the fruit tasted fresh. It was loaded with fruit to. Up there with the likes of Daily Bread in Auckland. Unfortunately the coffee was average.

The best pies and coffee on the north island of New Zealand. I would vote the pepper steak pie as the best pie in NZ!! Amazing
The Waikato's vegan hotspot is Tirau, due to one place only: The BAKER. The savoury and sweet treats available in the full and fully vegan cabinet at The Baker would be right in place at any fully vegan bakery in Poneke or Tamaki Makaurau (Wgtn./Akld.). Plant-based meat-filled sandwiches, pain-au-chocolat, pies: they're all here, hot and ready to run out the door with you and a hot cup of fresh coffee to keep you fueled and fired up for zipping on along the road.
The only challenge? Getting there not just before their early closing time of 2pm, but also before each wrack in the cabinet sells out.
