Super friendly, a little pricey as chicken was just a frozen patty but aside from that both burger and chipps were really well cooked and presented, crispy chips perfectly salted
We had blue cod, chips and donuts. The donuts and blue cod were excellent. Cod serving was generous and the batter was crispy. The donuts we're big and really nicely made. The shoe string chips were below average. Our meal was ready in minutes.
Chips were cooked beautifully, the blue cod just melted but the batter was slightly greasy, whitebait fritter was nice but a few more whitebait would have been great. The lemon wedge with the fish was a great touch. Will call again when passing through.

Best takeaways in the country yet! And believe me, I've traveled around alot, and tried alot, this amazing takeaway service is not just good in the way they do their food, but also in the friendliness of the staff, it is a must visit nz attraction
We have travelled out to the "Hungry Hippo" a few times over the last few years. The food is great. Um, right up there with the best no matter what is served, it is fantastic. The Hoki Fish Burger is simply delicious amongst the rest if the yummy yummy food our family devoured at Tuatapere.
Best feed of blue cod,chips and salad we've ever had!😁😁😁😁 visit there every trip south. Friendly fast service and lovely trinkets/gifts to peruse while your waiting on the yummy food. A little shocked last cust by price hike! Used to be $58 for 4 meals.....last visit $97!!! Not even a cuppa thrown in for that price....have to think twice now about going there at twice the price😢😢😢😢
Lovely burgers. Hoki a little greasy but comes as a fillet not a 'shaped' piece. Chips were crisp not soggy
An honest friendly roadside cafe. Simple hot cabinet food availabe, coffees, snacks and i'm sure there is more.
We stopped on our way to Lake Monowai for some hot chips and snacks, we went to purchase tomatoe sauce in the little sachets. Since we bought other items the lady kindly gave us a giant squirt of sauce at no cost.
Seems trivial but it made our day as the lady was real nice.
The best valued Fish & Chips I've ever eaten! I added a coffee, which was big and tasty as well. If I could I would come back to enjoy more of the numerous affordable snacks and meals.
Top meal. Freshest blue cod served with a wedge of lemon in a box, old skool style, worth the trip off from town.
