I can never understand why it is that previous reviews of a place are not wiped out when new owners take over as the reviews can be totally misleading. Hubby and I were in Waihi & Bowentown for the day yesterday (from Auckland) and walking past the bog standard bakery we happened upon The Porch, attracted by the outdoor seating area and overall look of the place. Upon going inside we were greeted by the lovely friendly ladies there and choice of homemade food. Hubby opted for the savoury mince on toast with 2 eggs, a favourite of his and not many places do it so it was the obvious choice for him. I ordered the Morrocan chicken salad, both of us had a pot of tea each. Chatting to the ladies it seems that they have not been there that long so if the last review was April 2013 and before then you cannot go by these reviews. It was fabulous food, very tasty, huge helpings and was served with those lovely smiles again. Service was fantastic and we very much enjoyed sitting there outside watching the world go by. Nice to see that they provide water bowls for pooches so hoping that we can go back sometime with our 2...... the decor inside is very warm and inviting and we noted that they are open for dinner so that would be a great choice too. We shall definitely be back at some stage..... thanks ladies.....
A great spot for a Labour weekend dinner.
Being a Mac's bar we expected prices similar to the other establishments that carry the same name around New Zealand. Not so. One look at the menu (about $30 for mains) and we realised we may be paying more than we hoped.
One look at the dishes that came out signalled we were fine dining.
One taste, and we were both sold! Well worth the price we paid! Well worth the visit. I enjoyed the stuffed chicken, she enjoyed the haloumi and roast veges. It was all so good, we stayed on for dessert. The mains, however, definitely eclipsed the desserts!
Great coffee and great muffins. I commented on the good coffee when we were leaving. Even better when my husband left his wallet on the table and getting it returned intact via courier after contacting Carla on return to Auckland. Could have been a disaster as we are shortly heading overseas. Thank you.
Came here with 7 friends on a girls night, Great seating on a square table so we could all talk, and our waitress was the bomb - friendly and chatty - perfect service, stunning cheekbones :)!
The food was good - I had pork belly and the downside was it was a bit fatty - maybe it needed to be twice baked, and the lamb rack (which I did a swap with) was a little rare. Came with mash and veges, and we'd all had few wines by then so I can't really remember what else. The meals were big - (for girls!) None of us managed to finish the pork belly! I know the seafood meal and vege meal were spoken of well. Not BYO, but great selection of wines.
Eaten there twice now both times staff friendly service good although a little slow, but, as both times they were quite busy this can be forgiven. Coffee good but could do with loosing the medium cups the drinks get cold really quick in them. Will go there again without hesitation.
great service great service and great service, we ate there on Fri night and my only complaint is that I wanted more of the lamb. It was a fab night and I truly love the ladies that serve with so much care and fun. Keep that up please. Again for lunch on Sunday and service was again great. Food was awesome too. Thanks guys.
As always, delicious food but so-so service.
Our Chilli Prawn Entree had potential but didn't really have enough flavor, and not a hint of Chili! Our mains were delicious and hearty, and presented beautifully - as were our desserts.
Unfortunately the service just doesn't quite live up to the premium price you pay at this restaurant. We got pointed to our table [not taken to] and moments later asked to move tables because that table was reserved, then we were moved to the worst table in the restaurant [beside the kitchen] despite being the only guests in the entire place. After that staff were efficient but not very warm.
All in all great food, lovely cosy atmosphere, ok prices, ok service. We will probably dine here again but won't go out of our way. JH
Have two absolutely amazing evenings here in the last few months, Managed to get into there Degustation evening they had a few months back 8 courses beautifully wine matched complete with a very talented Harpist/acoustic guitar playing in the back ground. The service was 5 star and the food was as good if not better then what we have experienced around the world.
Went in again over the weekend and were not disappointed...Just wish it was closer!
Been here a few times, I love their Chicken salad! The eggs bene are good too. I like it that they have a baby change table in one of the bathrooms. Good service, nice food and fair prices, not cheap but not over priced either.
Had dinner at The Porch last night especially to try their Monteith's Wild Food entry. It was delicious! A loin of wild rabbit stuffed with prunes, served on silverbeet saute, and a moist, tender leg of rabbit served on honey roasted kumara. My dessert was delicious too - creme brulee with lemon sorbet. The Porch is our local when we are at Waihi Beach and we are always impressed. So lucky to have it at our little old beach. Long may it last!
We stopped here for a light dinner with our 3yr old son. The staff were very helpful and friendly. They brought his food first quite quickly which helped.
The menu wasn't too extensive but we ended up getting a few of the entree size meals to share. The food is absolutely fantastic, best we've tasted in ages.
A charming little restaurant in Waihi Beach that opens to serve breakfast, lunch & dinner.
The menu is quite adequate, however i was a bit disappointed for not having a more seafood focused menu being a beachside town. Nevertheless the food served were tasty, fresh and portions were generous.
We had the seafood basket, seafood chowder, the lambshank for two and a side of seasonal greens (which basically was a small bowl of baby spinach). As said earlier, the seafood were fresh and the chef paid respect to that. The lamb was soft and falling of the bone.
Our food was lovely! Massive plates! Tasted super fresh & would have got 5 stars if I was given a steak knife to eat with instead of a butter knife to cut my beautiful lamb!
Located next to Waihi Beach, tasty dishes and staff ok. My wife ordered a burger and it looked great, thick meat and generous fries came along. Chicken pie was also delicious, but not recommended for children, it was too spicy for them. My pesto pasta was awesome, good amount, well seasoned.
Has coffee in the morning and popped back later that day for a beer. Service on both occasions was quick and pleasant. They serve organic coffee so that in mind if you are after a pick me up. Seating available both indoors and outdoors as well as a decent menu to choose from
Under new management and doing a fine job : )
There are a lot of choices for Vegetarians, Foodies and there's wine & beer too. The girls are chatty and cheerful. Great sunny spot. The Artists work is amazing on the walls and always great to see new pieces arriving. Tv & Fireplace for the winter too.
Lovely place, good music and food was reasonably priced. Seafood basket was huge!
I had poached egg on toast, it was yum. The girls had these, and said they were yum too 😋 Nice place, nice surroundings, loved Waihi Beach ⛱️
Had a good set up for our group of 30. Generously portioned and tasty meals with great service. Would highly recommend for a large group.
A pub type atmosphere, the menu is a bit disjointed with meals from many different cultures and a limited range of accompanying sides. However, everything tasted very good.
Food was really good, service was slow and had to ask for the desert menu. Took a long time for the food to come out but the place was clean and the food was brilliant so no real complaints. The servers were accommodating to heating request and changing the channel to sport.
