Absolutely fantastic. From the brilliant service to the amazing food, I cannot fault a thing. The staff are attentive without being overbearing and portray a passion for the food and pride in what they have. The food... wow. The ingredients are showcased and treated with incredible respect, each and every dish was interesting and beautiful but above all tasted amazing. A special mention on the artichokes and the lamb - I have never had artichokes so beautiful and the lamb absolutely magic. A real food experience, this is the place to eat in Wanaka. I will certainly return and next time I'll have the sense to leave room for dessert!
Amazing meal! Not to mention lovely wine/cocktails and great service. The salmon was definitely the stand out! We stumbled across this place whilst on holiday from Australia. A must do if in Wanaka!
Fresh, fun and tasty.
when you eat a kika, you know lots of effort and hard work has created your joyful mouthful And to top it off you get to eat in a stylish and clean restaurant with nice staff, that fill your glass from a fantastic wine from a top menu.
Perfect new years eve dinner! 8 courses including bubbles, drink and live music.
We were served by the superb Swedish waiter Otto, which made us swedes extra happy!
Great food, fresh flavours. Lively atmosphere. Excellent service. Well-worth waiting for a table while sipping on a glass of red.
Probably one of the best meals I've had in this country! Everything we ate was incredibly tasty and we can't wait to go back again! The staff were so helpful and friendly without being overbearing. What an experience! Make sure you order the Mozzarella and the Chicken! You WON'T regret it! Fantastic!
Absolute perfection! Dinner was a delightful experience, food tasty and fun, staff awesome- thank you Kika- we will recommend!
So deservedly the best restaurant in the country (NZ Hospitality Association). Amazing innovative dishes with knowledgeable and helpful staff, what more could you want....oh I know....more bang for your buck combined with all of the above, just awesome. Wanaka we are lucky.
Fantastic food with great service. Lovely space with great vibe. Good value for money, can't wait to go back!
Great menu and drinks list. Leaving very satisfied. Try the anchovies for sure.
Brilliant Resturant , great food, knowledgable friendly staff. My first choice to eat in Wanaka.
👍
- Broccolini: burnt eggplant worked surprisingly well with the broccolini
- pattate fritte: amazing
- xo clams
- croquette: although the octopus was a bit weird and tough
- Canterbury duck: mandarin was amazing and the duck was very juicy and flavoursome.
👎
- didn’t change plates after entree - the sauce from the xo clams and tuna carried over to the mains
- tuna: tuna was great, so was the koji Mayo w/cucumber and wild rice when had as a trio, but didn’t feel like it was great when put together
🤔
- come early as the restaurant fills up by 630
- parking outside from 6pm
Great service, nice ambience and delicious food! Came here on our first night in Wanaka and we really enjoyed our experience. Highly recommended!
Simply the best restaurant we’ve ever tried in New Zealand. Foods are just fabulous! Place is really cool. Ambience is great. Staff are super friendly. What else could we want? We really recommend Kika to all our friends who visit New Zealand.
The best dining experience we’ve had in a long time. The corn covered in popcorn was amazing & I have never tasted carrots like that before.
So Gordon Ramsay came into the restaurant 👌🏽 So you definitely will enjoy the food here and vibes!
It’ll be a solid 4.5-5 stars for anyone 🔥
Go check them on insta @Kikawanaka
Great food. We did the chef's choice and the whole meal was fabulous. Great tofu and mushrooms, salmon, goat cheese, and duck.
As President of the Clean Plate Club, I can highly recommend the fish. The service was above and beyond common courtesy and at the level of truly nice and kind people wanting to host and provide the best quality food and hospitality.
Wow!!!! I’m still thinking about this place 5 days later the food was amazing best gnocchi I have had in years. The fried chicken was just crispy, crunchy and delicious. And the deserts so hard to explain how good they are you just gotta go try it
A tapas styled restaurant where you share dishes with your table. The food is beautifully presented and the portions are generous, unlike other fine restaurants. The vibe is casual but elegant. The total bill came up to be very reasonable as well. Would recommend a visit when you are in Wanaka. You can easily make a reservation on their website.
This is simply superb food – up there with the best of any fine dining we’ve had in NZ and Australia.
As is now common at fine dining restaurants, Kika eschews the traditional entrée-main-dessert in favour of sharing plates of a series of small dishes, and then 1 or 2 mains, a side or 2 and a dessert (if you still have room).
It’s not cheap, but for the quality of the food, service and restaurant setting, it’s well worth it.
There’s plenty of veg, vegan and gluten-free options, and the superb staff will help you make the right choices, and make sure you don’t order more than you can eat.
We had a good meal at Kika. The tofu and the fried chicken were delicious! Goat cheese toast was good. The lamb shoulder was very tasty and the meat was soft👌🏽 The cabbage was just ok with nothing special. Broccolini dish was a bit too oily for our taste.
Drinks were yummy.
Service was great and we thought the staff was very friendly.
Ordered fried chicken, market fish crudo, beef tartare and hot peach pie with ice cream. Overall, the dishes (piccolo) were well done and presented beautifully. Particularly liked the fried chicken. Service was also very good. Arrived slightly late but the restaurant kept the table. Staff also served each dish with brief explanation and a smile. Dessert was automatically served without prompting. Place was packed, so reservation in advance will be necessary. Recommended if you are in Wanaka!
Had an amazing birthday dinner here for my partner. We are vegan - the food was amazing and the service was fast. All the meals were delicious. Highly recommend the "Just Feed Me" option if you have a few people who can help eat it all, otherwise ask for a take out container. It makes a great meal the next day too! Perfect for vegans - so many options. Our daughter had KFC (Kika Fried Chicken and Creme Brulee for dessert). Very clean, warm and comfortable restaurant. Highly recommended.
Excellent. The best and most genuine service I had in my whole trip to NZ. Really friendly and attentive. The food was great some unusual combinations and really tasty. Good selection of wine available also. Would highly recommend.
Decadent and very sharable meal- one of the best we’ve had in New Zealand. We ordered a few starters— the salmon and the fried chicken— and then the duck leg confit and the truffle mushroom gnocchi. They walked us through each dish and what sizes things were, so we knew what to order. Wine list was also very well done, and both wines we ordered were great. Everything was phenomenal and the service was excellent. Highly, highly recommended (and reserve in advance!)
Brilliant …. Staff super accommodating in giving us a table with no reservation and then an outstanding meal all the way with great timing between the dishes. Service excellent its a must if you around Wanaka. Dishes in the photos beef tartare, smoked cured king salmon, corn ribs, confit duck leg and frangipani is the best dessert by far. Staff was excellent also on keeping some noisy diners quiet well done.
Food was fine dining, with a bit more smart causal dining feel. We walked in without reservations and we got sitted at high table right next to the door. Not great seats.
Service was friendly but seems busy. They are very busy, 80% full.
Food was out of this world. So good. Came here for vegan choice and it didn't disappoint. Tofu, cos lettuce and broccolini. Only down side was the vegetables were yellow so wasn't as fresh as shown in photos.
Would still recommend to come but vegan check freshness of food.
Surprised that such an amazing restaurant is tucked away in the hidden nook and crannies of Wanaka. ALL the piccolos were on point! Each one was better than the next. Produce was fresh, flavours were balanced, and the dishes were not derivative of one another. Actually their main dish was probably the biggest let down (the lamb), but still delicious. Two most stunning dishes were the beef tartare and the gnocchi. Honourable mentions include the seared tuna and the venison and beetroot. The mulled wine was also sublime. Pity that we'll only get to eat here once on the trip, but was very glad for the suggestion.
We did the set menu with 8 friends. This was probably the best restaurant experience I have ever had in New Zealand. The food was incredible, great wine and the amount of food was great. I would 1000% recommend this to anyone.
absolutely one of the best meals we’ve had on our travels! thoughtful wine parings, delicious menu, knowledgeable and engaging staff. best clams we’ve had! highly recommend.
Great food, great service, great beers and great wine. Can't go wrong here! Ensure you book in advance though.
Not too posh, no obvious dress code and the menu is designed to share. We went with the trust the chef option for $80pp without wine pairings.
The highlight of the meal was the frangipane dessert, though it was hard to share this between two. Duck and potatoes were nice and unfaulted however we felt like it lacked excitement. Perhaps the entree of fresh sashimi salmon set the bar too high. On our next visit, we'll opt to choose from the ala cart menu.
just had cocktails and desert. loved the kitchens ideas. Their presentations and platings were decent, but the flavors were decidely bland. I loved that the peach pie wasn't too sweet, but did not love that the cocktail was. I will be back to try dinner properly as the staff was kind and the ambiance inviting. Tip the caring staff here, they deserve it, having hustled hard on an understaffed night.
One of the best meals that we have had in NZ, South Island.
We had the beef tartare and seared tuna for starters; the presentation, combination of flavours were outstanding. Every bite was delicious and we just can’t get enough of it.
We had the market fish to share for our main. The fish was fresh and tender with excellent flavours of dill, butter and lemon, and some parts of the skin was crispy. Excellent. The side of brocolini was well roasted with a very lovely house-made gremolata made of pumpkin seed butter, pinenut and grapefruit.
Overall, a very memorable dining experience and we are very impressed that every dish was well thought through and put together.
