Hey guys, hope your day is great. Here is a Throwback Thursday post of my visit to Aunty Mena’s Vegetarian Restaurant & Cafe located in Cuba Street, Wellington CBD. They serve a range of popular Malaysian without the use of any meat products in it🐟🐑🐄🐓. Come check it out.
Satay Sticks x4 🍢 $9
The mock meat had a chewy texture that needed a bit of time to get used to. There was a mild, nice amount of seasoning to give each piece some spice 🌶 to it. Peanut sauce had a nice nutty 🥜 and sweet flavour to it.
Chow Mee 🍜 $14
The presentation looked lovely, very colourful and filling when I first saw the plate. Noodles + Veggies were cooked well with a sweet touch from the chilli sauce. Mock meat had an interesting texture, but good enough to taste similar to chicken. Overall, I was happy and it was worth the money.
Laksa 🍲 $13
For a non-meat laksa, this dish was really well replicated. The soup was rich and creamy taste consisting of lemongrass 🍋🌿 + hint of coconut 🥥. Great serving size and range of veggies, mock meats, and noodles to make it a hearty, lunch meal.
Final Words
I had a good experience at Aunty Mena’s. The interior is compact + non-modern, but don’t judge a book by its cover. Service is friendly, but when going into the restaurant, I would pick up the menu and get seated first in order to not crowd the front area. Definitely recommend this place if you want a different twist to Asian food or want a meal that is free from meat. Peace out 👍🏽✌🏽
I liked that they used fresh veges instead of frozen which is a big plus, for example broccoli was crunchy and there was fresh bokchoy, but it wasn't enough tofu. Curry was yammy but a bit too salty for me, I still really enjoyed it. Felt like I was rushed to leave the place. Would have liked more friendly service.
Very nice and cheap vegan asian restaurant, however its always quite packed with limited seating and extremely overheated in the restaurant. The food is delicious and suitable for vegetarian and vegan eaters.
