Great atmosphere, service and food was amazing. Definitely recommended. Thanks for a great evening and making my daughter's 14th birthday enjoyable. See you again soon 👌
Awesome environment for everyone, but would imagine men would feel the most relaxed. Keeps to its theme very well, except awesome service, good value for money and very clean. Had a savoury scone, came piping hot, well cooked and generous size. Beautiful deep flavours, that left you wanting more. Only critic would be music could be turned down a little.
My family and I had dinner here tonight Kumara Chips & pork belly skewers entrees which were excellent. Beef burger, 2 Caesar chicken salads and I had the salmon. Food was perfect service amazing looking forward to our next visit.
We had pancakes, raspberry and whipped cream as well as bacon and banana. It was very delicious and fresh. I also had a hot chocolate. It came with a chocolate fish.
Great ambiance. Good and tasty food. Nice staff. I had the lamb burger, and the brownie with ice cream for dessert. Both were excellent. Good presentation. Great location.
We were solo after 2 other diners had left while we decided what to order.
The food was AMAZING!
The best beef burger eaten included the most meatiest pattie with REAL meat, not a processed meat patty in sight.
The waiting staff warmly greeted us and made sure we were well looked after.
This place is a good place and one to return too.
Loved the service! I went there for breakfast! It’s a nice place to go to for brunch in the weekend. Check out the photo :)

Such a nice restaurant. Child friendly which is great, love the chicken breast. Overall made my night. Definitely coming back here very soon.
Beautiful meals, nice atmosphere and great staff! Will be back again!!
They have probably one of few menus that I actually want to try everything off not just a couple things 👍
A friend told us to visit this place to try it out. We were greeted immediately at the door by a lovely guy and shown to our table. Place was very busy. Food really tasty. Only negative would be the over priced soft drinks. Tiny can of coke (half the size of the standard can) was $5 each.
What a cool place to eat. Such a nice atmosphere and good service. It was a little noisey last night because of WOW, so they were quite busy. There were 4 of us and we enjoyed our meals. Desserts were really good value as they were big desserts. Will come back for sure. Was BYO with a $4 corkage fee with a minimum of $17 to spend which we thought was good.
Zoomed in here for a quick bite after WOW on Sunday night; there were 2 other couples there so very quiet. We grabbed a burger each (chicken & beef); my daughter raved about her chicken burger... my beef one was fine..... I enjoyed it. Well priced I thought and the lady who served us was absolutely lovely. Genuine & friendly.
Food is excellent. Steak was soooo yum!! Great service & a relaxing atmosphere. Not always easy to find a park. Located on the corner of Tory st, easy access to public transport & wgtn cbd area. Would definitely dine here again.
Came in before the earthquake happened and was very happy with what I ordered. My chicken was perfectly cooked, not too dry. The gravy was very flavoursome and went well with the chips.
Will be back soon to see if it is still as good! 👌
Well it is good to see this place open again
We had some friends in town that used to live down here so we have spent the weekend going in all there favourite little spots and joes was on the to do list so it was brunch on Saturday
Don't get me wrong the food was ok but not like it used to be the hash isn't made with so much love and the coffee was about average
Service was good and quick as always but it just doesn't have the vibe it used to
The place has gone down hill in the last few years since the owner and young lad with tattoos left they just doesn't seem to be the love and feel good vibes anymore. I don't no how to explain it it just used to be that place that no matter How busy it was it was always full of positive energy
Good people and good food.
Attention to detail is high.
Menu a bit boring but very swollen well executed.
Meats not overcooked.
Vege's tasty and seem fresh. Coffee up to standard.
Have been to the one in Queenstown and the one here feels more refined! Always have a really great coffee here and it's a great varied menu that you know is good hearty food. Also I can recommend the brownie!
Went here for dinner with a group of friends we all ordered something different off the menu, portions aren't too big apart from that delicious food, great atmosphere, and great staff .
So I'd like to say our meals were fantastic, eggs cooked perfectly, coffee was beautiful. Service was quick, only thing is we didn't get handed water but the table near us who got seated after got water straight away.. Strange.
Someone recommended this place for lunch so i decided to give it a try. I ordered the beef burger and I have to say I savoured every morsel of it. The beef pattie was beautifully cooked and was very juicy and the fries and aoili were perfect compliments. I was visiting Wellington for 2 days and I'm glad I tried this place.
Have been here a few times. The B.Y.O function here is great and is a good atmosphere for a group of diners. I did have a burger from here and it wasn't that great but the steak is fabulous. They do chips and gravy and that is so amazing to share with friends
Went in for an afternoon smoothie and a quick read of the paper. Ended up also having the sweetie roll of bacon and eggs with aioli. I must say the roll was soft and chewy, the bacon crispy, and the egg fried just right. The menu is not extensive but it has all you need. Would have preferred small snack options but all and all I was satisfied.
Hearing mixed and often bad reviews of Joe's Garage, I was disappointed my company would be taking a few of us out to dine there.
In terms of layout I found the place to be small and crowded......
That's where the negatives stopped--we were given fabulous service by the team and the food was filling and appetising.
Although our orders did take a little while, the food came out hot and all the dishes looked impressive.
The Joe Hash is a great side addition and overall I think we all had a fabulous time at Joe's.
Hate to say it but I would highly recommend this place.
Showstopper: Portion, Portion, Intense Flavour. Oh my the pork belly was sensational.
Overall Grade: A-
Had dinner, and breakfast here the next morning. Good food for both meals. Drinks list a bit limited. Service good.
Recommended for a quick no fuss meal and a filling no fuss breakfast.
We were only in Wellington for a short while and Joe's Garage caught our eye. The garage sign is what got us, so simple that it stood out on that main road. It was out of the norm. We were welcomed with open arms. The waitress and waiter that served us were amazing and had beautiful smiles throughout the evening. I wanted something simple so I ordered the Brat with fries which is pretty much an American hot dog. Simple and good tasting meal. Loved everything. Would visit again.
Such a great find when we were wandering around the city looking for coffee and something to eat. Great friendly service, good food portion sizes and great atmosphere. Thoroughly recommend this place!
Went to Joes Garage because my boyfriend and I were a little jaded on the Asian BYO's in Wellington and wanted to try something a little different.
The interior was lovely and we were served very fast and in a friendly manner despite it being a Saturday night and very busy.
The food was great and really well priced, my boyfriend getting the chicken burger which he liked and I got the special which was the steak burger. The chips and size of the portions was very generous and overall the food was good. The steak was little tough but for the price and size I couldn't complain!
Also really liked that we were not made to feel awkward or like we were taking up space despite being there for a substantial amount of time. Would love to return and check out the rest of their meals particularly the Chicken Teddy.
Coffee is really good. Very friendly, upbeat staff. Good choices in the menu and quick to serve. Pikelets with bacon and maple syrup were good, pikelet mixture was cooked large, pancake style. I really liked that maple syrup was served in little jug to put on yourself because I dislike it too sweet. Really cool atmosphere and enjoyable experience. I would definitely recommend it.
Always good food. Casual sunday. Cold beer and a hotdog is always up there. Fries and gravy is a must.
Good weekend cofffee too.
Bad ventilation. Always forget it so always end up going there in the morning and have all day smelling like fried food on the clothes.
Amazing food... Although You have to endure a painstaking wait watching all this mouthwatering food come out! However the wait is well worth it. 5 stars for food, minus a star for the wait.
The atmosphere here is relaxed and rustic, but can get really busy at times. I was surprised when I found out this place does BYO after 5pm, which makes for good alternative to the usual Asian BYO option.
The menu consists mostly of burgers, rolls and salads. Sadly everytime I go to Joe’s garage, I ask for the fish burger (gluten free), which is indicated on their menu but each time they say the fish has already been battered. But the Teddy’s Best is pretty good chicken sandwich and I love the mustard mayo.
Overall Joe’s has pretty decent meal options, they do the basics well – quick, clean and tasty.

My food was really good, friendly staff. The menu (laminated paper) was really sticky and oily. Pineapple juice is not in the menu 😭, why guys, why?
Went here for breakfast the other day. We were greeted straight away and seated. Ordered a white hot choc (which wasn't great) but the food made up for it (we had gorgeous George with salmon and the big breakfast) decent portions. Friendly staff. Will be going back.
Friendly staff, nice relaxed atmosphere and good food. Always fulfilling and a fantastic place for brunch. I ordered the joker last time, great combination of flavours and good coffee to go with it.
Have been to Joe's a couple of times and have enjoyed it both times. I always think BYO options are limited in Wellington, predominantly being Asian based cuisine (nothing wrong with it, just need some variety in life!), so I was happy to find a burger joint BYO. Best thing about this place is the no corkage fee if you spend over $15! The burgers I've had have also been pretty tasty, although Ekim still beats them hands down on price and quality. Overall the food is good, the service nothing to write home about but not bad. I wouldn't rave about this place, but I wouldn't bag on it either.
Great food, the burgers and fries were flawless. The restaurant has a great vibe and was a good temperature for a chilly Wellington evening. Service wasn't up to the usual standard but still a good overall experience!
Staying in Wellington for work and needed an after dinner pick me up. Stopped in for one of the most delicious brownies I have ever tasted! Do yourself a favour and make some time for a cup of Joe's finest and a malteaser brownie!
Great breakfast kid friendly
Happy to deal with odd requests ( for the kids !)
Go the joker for breakfast sweet bun bacon lean sky sausage and eggs the way you like em
I didn't even look at the regular menu but I could tell they did breakfast, lunch and dinner. No food for us, though. It was all about the macchiato and piccolo latte. The macchiato was actually perfection. Short pour, tiny bit of milk and a seriously gutsy bean.
Went here for breakfast last weekend and it was great. They have a full breakfast menu and then a separate section for breakfast rolls. We had one bacon and egg rolls and one of the brat rolls and they were both great and really reasonably price at around $12. I don't eat eggs and having plenty of alternatives for me to eat was great as this is often hard in most places. Service wasn't fast but it didn't really worry us for a nice long Sunday brunch. Will defo be back to try the burgers and a BYO.
Had an awesome chicken burger with fries at Joe's Garage, great environment and friendly staff to accommodate us. Definitely recommend checking it out!
A quick stop for lunch on Saturday and Joe's did not disappoint.
We were seated promptly and drink orders taken. Coffee arrived a few minutes later and food orders taken at the same time.
Just a short wait before all plates arrived.
Kids - scrambled egg on toast and "kids schitz". Both gobbled down with good reports. Egg on toast was a little meager but great value.
Adults - special of pancakes, banana, bacon and Brat Bun. Both tasty simple fare. Thought the brat in a bun (bread roll, sausage, onions, gravy, mustard, cheese)was overpriced at $12.30. Especially so when a local "weiner" outlet does bigger versions for less (but not in a sit down establishment).
Overall - satisfactory but not remarkable.
Just had a quick bite at Joe's Garage. The food (two of their warm filled rolls, fries and baked beans) and coffee were good, just took awhile for the food to come out.
Six of us dined at Joe's on a Friday at 6pm. Wanted somewhere reasonably priced and close to Circa Theatre so we gave it a go. I used to go here with work for Friday drinks a couple of years ago. The chips and gravy were epic so I was hoping they were still on the menu.
Staff were a little slow coming to the table but friendly and helpful when they did. The menu isn't extensive but they have a nice selection of options to choose from.
We ordered drinks. I was pleased to learn they had a craft beer on tap, just the one mind, Black Dog Golden Lab. Would be nice to have a couple more to choose from.
I ordered the BRAT (German sausage in a soft roll with fried onions and cheese) The chips and gravy were available so I got a small portion, as recommended by the waiter. He was right, small was enough. Meals arrived and were tasty. Good portion sizes too.
The chips and gravy were lovely. Flavoursome gravy and hand cut chips with seasoning. The BRAT was a nice change. My partner ordered the chicken burger. Chicken was marinated in a garlicky sauce, chips nice and plentiful but no seasoning, she really enjoyed the burger but felt short changed that the chips weren’t seasoned like mine and were a bit plain.
Our friends ordered the schnitzel, the fish and the steak and chips. Everyone enjoyed their meals but our friend did commented that she was glad she ordered her steak rare instead of med-rare as it was quite well cooked.
Mine and my partner’s meal cost $63.60 for two mains, side of chips gravy, a Shiraz and two craft beers.
I would go back sometime, especially for chips and gravy.
Joes Garage is an awesome place to drop in and have a bite. Breakfast here is delicious and dinner here is divine. I always bring friends here and we have never been disappointed.
Went there for lunch. The service was good, they were very accommodating of our baby, providing a highchair for her to sit in. I noticed they also have pens and colouring in pages for kids, so they do cater well to children. We both had a burger, they were nice but perhaps overpriced. The atmosphere was good, my only criticism is that the whole place needs a really good clean. The menus had food on them, the table needing wiping, the seats needed wiping, the walls have pen on them and bits of food. The staff definitely need to give the place a huge intense clean.
Always great service and coffee!
Often the same friendly staff, which always makes me feel good about the place, a company with low staff turn around clearly means staff are treated well, meaning great service from happy waitstaff.
Big yummy meals that you can't finish alone. Although I would love to see some new things on the menu.Wish they did pouched eggs but it makes sense that they don't so I can get over that.
Must Try:
Chips with gravy! Yum
Hot cakes
Coffee coffee coffee
We were looking for somewhere for a quick burger and beer before a gig and Joe's Garage fitted the bill perfectly. Friendly, prompt service, great fries and a good atmosphere.
I've always enjoyed the food at Joe's Garage. The pleasant surprise is that their service continues to improve... Friendly and attentive, without being a nuisance. The atmosphere is casual and relaxed. Good coffee.
Very friendly service, great burgers and a good beer selection, just what every growing boy needs! Even stuff in there for the vegetarians, although the salads could be a bit more generous. All in all I'd recommend and I'll be going back!
I haven't had a bad experience in all the times that I've eaten at Joe's Garage. It's a great place to just sit and work, and drink good coffee; I use it as a place for the odd business meeting; and the food is always top quality. The service is friendly without ever being familiar. Excellent cafe with good atmosphere.
Very good service - friendly and helpful. Great atmosphere. Just there for a coffee and a slice but they were very good. I'll be back. Not much more to say really but my review was too short to post!
I have been here twice For breakfast & both times lovely coffee. Serving sizes are decent. Unfortunately the orange juice is bottled. The atmosphere is really buzzy and fresh. Good for kids. Good service, attentive.
When you walk into Joe's you're met with instant warmth and a friendly smile. The rain and wind are left outside and you can slowly unwind with the casual friendliness that greets you at the door. The big wide table is perfect and reminds me of family christmases with conversation flowing back and forth. For those wanting something a little more intimate there are booths and small tables dotted around the sides. For $17 you can get the beef burger with chips. While it may seem a little expensive for a burger this is a gourmet burger not BK. A thick tasty patty, crispy streaky bacon and salad with the little pottle of mixed sauces makes you forget the price you're paying while you dig in to the mouth watering 'goodness'. If you like lots of chips get the chippies with gravy, it might sound unusual BUT this is good, seriously good (it kinda reminds me of the french poutine). What I really liked about Joe's is not just the good food, great service and ambience BUT that you can watch dishes being being whizzed up in a blender. It's like a show on the food network.
We had a wonderful experience and the most delicious burgers we have ever tasted.
The service was exceptional and we have told many friends how much we enjoyed it.
Would make a special trip to Wellington just to go there.
I've recently dined at Joe's Garage for breakfast. We went there as a group from work, and orders various items from the brunch menu. I was a little surprised that their two options for eggs was fried or scrambled - I'm a big fan of pouched eggs. I opted for scrambled, and although a fairly basic looking dish, it was tasty. I had to enquire where my drink was, when I had waited twice as long as everyone else - and I had only ordered water. I don't drink coffee myself, but I guess their coffee must be fairly decent, lots of people coming in to get a takeaway cup while we were there.
Went here for a late Sunday lunch after craving something similar to a Sunday roast. Place was fairly busy but service was quick and the food was excellent. I'll be returning for sure
Lovely venue and atmosphere. Our table was reserved and we were greeted with a smile. The chicken, pizza and burger was nice. We had been warned the wait for our dessert would be a while, and it did in fact take 30min. However, they felt really bad and gave both of them to us for free. The wait was worth it, as the dessert was leaps and bounds the best thing. We had a yummy brownie and the sticky date pudding was huge. We'd honestly go back just for the dessert.
The staff here are great and every single one of them was super friendly to us. The restaurant is a decent size and has a typical menu so you'll easily find something to eat, from the typical burgers and pizzas to fish. The pizzas were very tasty. My only down side was that the beers on tap unfortunately weren't what I drink and I thought there would be more selection, other than that it was a great experience and we had a good time.
Great food, good service.
But disappointingly they would only accept one entertainment card per table, when we had two entertainment cards among our four diners!! 🤔😕😳
Amazing atmosphere, really friendly staff, quick service and flavorful food. I order the Gorgeous George Vegetarian option and it has potato. Spinach, hollandaise sauce and eggs. Really tasty!! I will definitely recommend coming for breakfast and I will be back to try their lunch menu too.
Is also family friendly and accommodate big groups.
Food was amazing service was so friendly and was very attentive and they even gave me a free hat words can't express how wonderful this place is 10/10
Great place for a Xmas brekky. Good menu & great staff. Nice laid back atmosphere.
Update! Some more photos added from our recent visit.
Joes garage has always been my favorite, ever since I lived in Queenstown.
Their rewards point is very addictive just as their breakfast and coffee.
I have been a long term customer and the quality of service, food and coffee has never dropped for a second.
Be it Wellington or both their outlets in Queenstown ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Edit: 29/10/2022
Just been here again, still in love with the place. Wonderful to spend our anniversary here and will be going again soon!
Wonderful food and great atmosphere, staff were great too :)
Went on Sunday evening, ordered jfc and kumara chips as well the pork belly main, ribs and beef burger.
Great food. Great service and we didn't wait long at all.
Will definitely return for the jfc and kumara chips🙌
We enjoyed the overall experience and food. Great service could have spent more time sitting and chatting over brunch. We all wished we had discovered Joes sooner.
Amazing food - I had the gorgeous breakfast and it was delicious. The potatoes were served room temp but were very tasty. Rest was perfect. Coffee was also great. Tea (green) was average.
Friendly & attentive staff, lovely food, great atmosphere, not to noisy.
My family & I love going there.
Really good food, great service. Will definitely be back. Arrive hungry the meals are huge and it's hard to decide what to have
The food is hot and tasty, great coffee and friendly staff.
