Went to the rooftop bar with friends. The place has a nice chill ambiance, We had pizza and a jug of sangria which arrived very quickly and both delicious. Very nice place to go to on a sunny day to relax and have a good time.
Loved everything about the place nice range of drinks and food and just the vibe of the place is great would highly recommend
Service was fast and friendly. Food was also nice although the patty reminded me of a McDonalds patty.Went for lunch during WOAP with a large group (~9 people). Burgers were all served at the same time and didn't take long. Drinks also arrived promptly. Nothing to complain about.
I've been to the arborist for brunch on a few occasions now, and I can safely say that it ranks in one of my top 5 brunch spots!
My favourite brunch menu item is definitely the Turkish Eggs. The combination of the burnt butter, seeds, poached eggs + the smear of yoghurt is sensational.
Smashed avo - Portion was huge, and I couldn't eat it all. But..... I loved the addition of the seeded salad.
Pesto Mushrooms - Yum! Can't wait to have this again.
Vege Lover - Great veggie big breakfast! Everything you could want on a plate :)
I can't fault the service there, and they have a great loyalty card.

Everytime we come to the arborist we leave satisfied, food is always amazing, tapa sized dishes great for sharing, we take friends all the time and they in turn tell there’s. The arborist is great. Great setting, good drinks and well priced overall. We rate it!
I liked it. We had snacks and drinks after work on a Thursday night. The menu was great for snacks. I wasn’t looking to dine here. It was clean. Loos were clean and well stocked with soap. Had an old school air dryer for hands that did an awesome job. I’d go back again and defo want to try the roof bar.
Reasons why I like this place:
1. Someone told me they put at least half a bottle of wine in their big jugs of sangria.
(Don't know how reliable this source is, but I did get a lil tipsy)
2. Welly on a good day + Hanging out on the rooftop bar = Memorable summer nights.
3. Their parmesean fries are really addicting.
Their salt and pepper calamari is also worth a mention. Always beautifully fried. Don't rate the wasabi mayo though, my tastebuds are too sensitive for that green stuff that burns.
Went there for dinner last night, the pulled pork tacos were delicious and well priced! When I’m next in Wellington will definitely go there again!
Booked out the Arborist Function Room for my 21st. Such a well decorated and interesting space, nice and private/separated from the main bar - but still with easy access for drinks. I ordered all vegan/vego platters - the food was delicious, and beautifully presented. Lots of really interesting and tasty options - heaps of variety for vego! The service was fantastic, staff really friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend. Thank you Arborist!
Came for Friday drinks up on the Rooftop Bar
such a chill vibe and just a nice place to hang and catch up with friends. The parmessan fries were delish. Staff friendly and reasonable prices.
Fabulous atmosphere, hard-working and friendly staff, delicious food (and beautiful cocktails!) - will return if I get the chance to! I had the "loaded" Bloody Mary which was 'different' but nonetheless tasty, along with the jerk chicken and some parmesan fries. Very satisfied with the quality of food and service.
In Summer the rooftop bar is a winner. Complimentary hats n sunscreen - keeping its patrons sunsafe, I like it!!! The lounge chairs and turf make it a fun place to enjoy the sun with mates! The downstairs is funky as well (warmer when the suns not out) and is a neat place to have a cuppa and a yarn.
Food and staff are amazing. Great rooftop, especially in the summer. Been here for dinner, lots of little plates to share. Definitely have to try the superslaw.
When you get a little bit hungry at 10pm... this was the rescue! Buttermilk fried chicken with smoked maple and parmesan fries... I m usually not a fan of this type of food but I have to say it was very yum!
Another bug plus, very friendly and attentive staff. AND music was great. Made our night!
Visted for the first time on Saturday and totally blown away by the quality of the food, all sourced locally, organic and beautifully prepared. Menu is a real gem as you can choose what ever combination of dishes you want, protein, greens and "tummy fillers" as they call them. Each serving is a moderate size and if you want more just order another dish! Two of us dined with drinks for under $80, great value for food of this quality. Tasty looking burgers on the menu as well. Atmosphere is lovely and the service was simply great. Food intolerant people well catered for too. Definitely will be back
If the sun is shining in Wellington, round up the crew and head up to the Arborist Rooftop bar. My favourite place in Wellington, you can't beat this place on a summers day with one of their slushy rum and cokes. I'll admit, I haven't eaten here but the ambience and drinks selection was perfection. A must if you're ever in Wellington.
The staff here make the place! They are all so, so lovely. From the guy making cocktails to the bouncer at the elevator. Sweet people who add so much value to the place.
The rooftop bar was too busy to stay (no doubt the fault of the sunny Wellington evening!) so we headed down to the restaurant for a glass of wine.
Comfortable seats, unique decor, and food that smelt so good I was tempted to have a second dinner.
Definitely no harm in visiting this place!! Most enjoyable. One of the best "hotel restaurants" I've seen in this city, and probably around the world
EDIT: Have been here on numerous occasions. The rooftop bar is an awesome spot on a hot day and has heaters and blanketd for when it cools down. The last time I got a beef burger and fries that was very well received.
Just came here for the WOAP burger. Again great taste. Enjoyable. A little loud on the music for lunch but still would come again.
Amazing small plates and cocktail menu, our regular local hang out. Love the rooftop bar and downstairs for dinner with friends. Yum!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
quirky atmosphere, great roof top location, pleasant bar goers. It was a great time sitting under the stars with heater behind us. The food selection was quite limited though.
Been here a couple of times for coffee before, today I had lunch.
We arrived just before 12pm. Pretty empty but that suited us as we had things to do.
Bit of confusion over the available menus (we were offered one, then another one as the first one wasn't available). There's also a different menu for the roof top area. Bar snacks only, so there was a bit of back and forth. No drama though.
Some good options available on the menu.
We ordered a vegetarian breakfast to share and some parmesan fries. We also ordered a green tea and a soy flat white.
The breakfast consisted of, kumra hash, poached egg, smashed avo, grilled tomato, grilled mushrooms, grain bread, beans and haloumi.
It was a big portion, perfect amount for two for a lighter lunch, but there was plenty.
The mushrooms were the highlight for me, very tasty and seasoned well.
The parmesan fries were a first for me, good portion size, and the right amount of parmesan to flavour the fries well. They could have been crispier though.
I've recently started having soy flat whites over milk. However, it's a bit of a lottery to get a good one, but luckily this one was really good. One of the better ones I've had.
Staff were friendly and helpful.
We were both very impressed with the food here, will definitely come again.
Nice rooftop bar but that's all it is. A seat in the sun (on a good Wellington day) and a cocktail. The view is mixed, yes you can see a bit of the hills, yes you can see the steeple of the local church but it's definitely nice bright city lights or magnificent cityscape
This is a really great place to grab a beer on a Friday night. With being so close to town you can easily just walk into the clubs afterwards or use the waterfront for a leisurely walk. The outfit is all really tidy with a small outdoor area for smokers and sorts at the front, bar inside and a nice canopy styled rooftop seating arrangement that might appeal to a lot of people. The bar list for drinks is what you'd expect from a bar, fairly cheap for town and then the food menu is reasonable also.
Arborist has a crazy cool rooftop bar which is a great place to show your friends. Presentation on the platters is outstanding and they have a creative selection of cocktails. 5 STARS!!
Came here for breakfast on a work trip and ordered the corn fritters. Corns fritters were nice and soft, but small. Egg was poached well and dish arrived with watercress instead of rocket which is a bonus for me as I preferred watercress more. Meal is a bit pricey due to the portion size, I could easily eat 2 portions of these on a normal morning. Great flat whites as you would expect from Wellington, not like the overly diluted ones from Auckland, ofcos I order another one to take with me.
Had such a great meal here. Randomly decided to go as neither of us had been and it was in the entertainment book. Was unlucky as the Brussel sprouts were sold out, which means I'll definitely have to go back again!
Didn't eat here, but a really nice place for drinks. The service was really nice and friendly and the rooftop bar has a really nice vibe to it. It can get chilly up on the rooftop even on a warm day so it might be a good idea to bring a jacket, apart from that, a really nice place. Will definitely be returning.
The butcher sausage was really really good!must try~the day I try was a pork sausage!the skin of the sausage was very brittle!the chicken also good!the mushrooms have a good seasoning~a place good for a small party with friends!
The hot bird burger was delicious. I definitely chowed it down quickly. Crispy chicken on the outside, tender and juicy on the inside. Some buttermilk coating can be hit and miss and come out sweet which I detest but not this one. The hot sauce is always a hit and goes perfectly with the chicken. My only negative comment is the brioche bun is a bit stale but otherwise it was yummy. The burgers are pretty decently priced but be warned the other small plates ARE small!
The rooftop bar is so cute with its design and is located on the 7th floor on an actual roof which is pretty decent. Though when it is dependent on Wellington weather it can be a bit of a hit and miss in terms of whether it would be open. Definitely worth checking out!
Cool place, rooftop bar setup is epic. Service was friendly and chilled plus decent drinks list. I can see myself hanging out here regularly on week nights. That brings me to the food. It's not bad, these guys serve small/shared plates, "tapas style". The plates aren't too expensive, individually anyway. My burger (the Lumber Jack) was a decent double beef patty burger with decent homemade "Big Mac" sauce. At $11.50 it was good value. The sides cost $8-$9, but are real tiny, could be more generous in this department.
Best chicken burger and Bloody Mary in Wellington!
The Arborist came highly recommended from a co-worker and my first visit did not disappoint (sadly my second visit did but I'll get to that...)
Had a Bloody Mary and it was AWESOME! Not only was it spicy and delicious but it also came garnished with a pork belly slider, deep fried pickles, grilled prawn, and hot off the grill bacon. It was pretty bad-ass and I easily could have had another one (or 10!). Also had a chicken burger and it was one of the best I've ever had, definitely give it a go! The service was spot on as well and the atmosphere was great
On to my second visit... After having such a great time the first time I visited I decided to give it another go with a friend, sadly this time was a bad experience. We came in and were giving a half hearted greeting and sat down. After about 10 minutes we still hadn't been seen by anyone so snagged a couple menus off the vacated table next to us (that sat uncleared from it's previous occupants for at least 15-20 minutes) and again sat and waited. Another 5 or so minutes went by and the server finally came over we ordered a couple drinks ( a beer and a wine) and again we began to wait. 10 more minutes went by and the drinks never arrived, at this point we decided to pull the pin and walked out.
I will definitely give the Arborist another try and hope our disappointing second visit was a once off.
WOW what can I say this bar and eatery is awesome in many ways.
We walked in and the place was humming !! Loved the light stone and greenery with the wood very relaxing funky space.
Menu design rocks because you can pick a protein and then a salad then add a starch if you want which means you get what flavour combo you are looking for.
Food is simply delicious, buttermilk chicken was divine, pork belly super tender and not sure what they sprinkle on their fries but they are moorish. The burgers are amazing and to quote the fellow Aucklander at the table "better than Burger Burger " but the magic point of our experience was the bloody Mary's simply amazing. Great Bloody Mary with a good level of kick to it. If you like Bloody Mary's then this is a must !
Service is friendly, quick and if you query the menu totally knowledgeable which I love.
Now they have a rooftop terrace opening soon which I snuck up to see and it was basking in the sunshine bet this becomes the place to be over summer.
I absolutely loved this place. The outside balcony was great to sit and people watch as we had a few cold beers.
Our tummies and tastebuds were treated to the jerk chicken, marinated beef skirt and the garlic pita. They were cooked beautifully! So much flavour in each bite. They're designed to be finger food though, so order many if youre hungry!
Love this place. The lunch menu is A great format menu mixing your choice of salads or vegetables with proteins, all expertly prepared. Brunch is original, with fresh twists on some old classics. Great service as well, and the new rooftop bar is UTTERLY. FANTASTIC!!
I didn't check out the rooftop bar as the weather was yuck but the ground level bar/restaurant was good. The menu is simple divided into meat, greens and fillers. The idea is you create your own meal, ie I had the sausages, roast vege salad and Parmesan fries. My green of choice was the Brussel sprouts but unfortunately they were out so I went with my second choice of the salad. All the food was super tasty! For dessert I had ice cream and smores, it wasn't what I expected which is weird as it was exactly what it said on the menu so not sure what I expected? Anyway melted marshmallows and chocolate, flakes and icecream yum!
Came here with a few friends for dinner, not entirely knowing what to expect. The menu could be explained a little better by the staff - it's a better idea to share with friends rather than try feed just yourself. I got the pork belly and mash potato with gravy which was very tasty. The waitress commented that the chef must have been generous with the mash - which made me think they must get pretty stinge because it wasn't even that big a serve. The menu tricks you into thinking it'll be a real cheap dinner but adds up with all the extras you need to fill up but at least it's all good quality and really tasty
A cozy bar.. The chopped wood as part of the decoration is a nice touch and makes it feel like a warm and hearty place. Had myself a Wellington on a plate burger, lamb patties and special sauce.. By far the best burger I had in Wellington.. And have been advised that the normal menu burgers are just as good if not better. Well worth going to check out
Had dinner here the other night - it was all super tasty. The venison and mutton were amazing and both really tender. We had the brocolli, quinoa, and beetroot salads and they were all awesome. We had a tough time deciding which was best.
They have pretty solid wine and spirit lists, but the cocktails can be a bit soso.
The staff are always friendly and professional without being over attentive.
One of my favourite places for a casual drink or meal.
The first thing you notice is the decor. Fresh herbs in pots litter the outside patio and you're encouraged to pick them and add them to drinks and food. Inside is very warm and cosy, I went here for the first time as part of a large group, and was put into a back room. That's not a bad thing since it meant we were able to get up and socialise, making use of the couch in the corner.
Going up to the bar I found a the bar tender was very helpful offering to make me "an exciting non alcoholic drink" based on what flavours I liked. In the end my mint and ginger drink was delicious.
Because of the size of the group (30people) we were offered a set menu meal for $25pp. This consisted of three proteins (Veal, Beef and Jerk Chicken) as well as three salads, garlic pita bread, mash potatoes and gravy, and fries.
The portions didn't seem very big, as each dish was brought out on a plate to share among everyone. I found that with the staggered introduction of each dish, people were grabbing whatever they could, not know when or how much of other dishes would come.
Being the only vegetarian, it was really nice of them to let us have a single mushroom dish so I didn't have to miss out on a main. And it tasted really good.
For a little bit extra, we could chose to have the s'mores buffet, which was a nice way to end the evening.
A surprise find tonight. It was appropriately busy for a Friday night. Enough people give it a buzz, but not packed to be noisy or interupt the service. We ordered a wide range of bar snacks and drinks which were delivered quickly. Snacks were brilliant, fondue and parmesan chips were a highlight.
nice interior decorations, the price is fair for what I got. We went for lunch on Sat, not many people there, it's quiet and tidy. My bf had bacon steak, he think it's too salty for main course. I had the pork belly with apple slaw and fried potato, which is not too bad, but the skin is too firm to eat, so I gave up on it. And the fat part is too less for me.
We recently moved offices at work, and The Arborist has become our new local. I secretly like the Swanndri-lumberjack and raw-timber look of the place and its staff (perhaps my northern Michigan upbringing?) as much as I think it is annoyingly 'Hipster' (yes, with an uppercase 'H').
That said, the staff is really friendly and sweet, the beer is cheap as chips, and the chips, small pates, etc are really delicious and interesting. Portion sizes are a bit small, but much of the menu is small plates. There is something for every price range, and it's all flavoursome and good-looking. Some good vegetarian options too, including some incredible cauliflower-quinoa cakes.
I look forward to the opening of the (advertised) 'rooftop' bar.
The staff are lovely and friendly, the food and cocktails were fantastic. Will definitely be back.
Great vibe. Love the heating and blankets for cooler evenings. Enjoyed our drinks. Popped in to check it out before having a beautiful dinner downstairs.
Omg I came here with the girls for my birthday brunch. We love it! Nice service! Nice deals and nice food/drinks.
Rooftop bar was good. Nice happy servers who were friendly and bouncy. Chips and onion rings were great. View was nice. Not extremely comfy seating. But the idea is awesome. Was a bit quiet on the Tues night. Probably would be better on a busier evening. The Flatbread with toppings was lovely and fresh. Service was attentive and quick. Liked the atmosphere. Felt relaxed there.
Really cute bar with rooftop and downstairs options. Enjoyed a few awesome cocktails - definitely worth a visit. Might pay to reserve a table if you want to have a good view.

Dined here for breakfast while staying at the hotel. We stopped in once for a lazy breakfast and it was so good we came back every day we stayed. Amazing food, great service and Fantastic coffee. Atmosphere is hard to comment on at breakfast and we never made it to the roof top bar but we'll be back. In the interest of full disclosure this review is a good two years post visit so it may have changed so take this with a grain of salt but something I saw today made me think of the place and I felt I had to do my bit. I'll be back......
Good experience. Couldn't visit the rooftop due to off timing. The rooftop was not available. The food was good, we enjoyed the seating area next to the street. Friendly staff.
Can't tell the vibe as the place was nearly empty. But had a great time altogether.
Will be back to experience rooftop when visiting Wellington.
We came here without much expectation and left quite satisfied. The food was delicious! The atmosphere was pretty cool and staff were really friendly.
Really cool bar and the staff were very friendly. I loved that they had a cherry drink on the menu. Unfortunately, they were out of the cherry stuff to rim the glass with... I'm really hopeful that they have it next time as I was excited about that bit. But it was still yummy without it and food was delicious. The lamb dish was sooo good! Looking forward to going back on our next Wellington trip.
Great burgers. Had the lumberjack and REALLY enjoyed it. Service was great, very friendly. Might pay to get there early as they seem to get busy fast round 6:00pm. Definitely a place to visit more than once.
The staff was surprisingly friendly and the rooftop bar is indeed beautiful. The food is limited depending on the time, but you can get bar snacks all day, such as parmesan fries, pulled pork croquettes, southern fried chicken, haloumi fries, etc. They are actually good, probably better than the average pub food, all at pub prices ($10 to $18). Some of their floral alcoholic slushies are also interesting. They prefer if you create a bar tab, so you can spend more and more, losing sight of your booze ingestion. However, you can just pay while ordering if you prefer. It seems to attract a more "older adults" vibe and not just the youngsters, but no senior citizens either. It is recommended a visit on a nice sunny day so you can hang out outside at the rooftop bar nibbling and drinking away your sorrows.
Delicious breakfast. We loved the food and ambience of the place is also very nice. Parking around the cafe could be a bit of concern but it's worth finding one. A very good courteous team. Eggs were perfectly made and the presentation was also neat.
Actually went to a 21st birthday in the function room of the Aborist. Had nibble platters which were delicious 😋 and breakfast there the next morning
Definitely the rooftop bar of choice during sunny hours, but the Arborist's main bar also holds its own against a strong Wellington scene. More accessible than some of the city's craft beer bars, but you can still satisfy your most hipster friend with beer from Chicago.
Interior design is initially very appealling, but don't look too hard. Good amount of room to sit up or slouch on a couch. Plus free venue hire available.
Go here for a good bridge between beer tastes.

We went we a few girl friends! Nice atmosphere and service, 5 ⭐️ for that. The food was good, but nothing amazing. The salad could use more seasoning!
