Experience told me that only first-time customers order King Crab and heaps of seafood lmao! Overall, the sauce for the seafood pot is delicious and fit for the hot bread too!!! For me, the rice (used to be Spanish paella) and the soup are the must-order dishes!!!
clams were my favourite. tomato based sauce with the claws were abit thick and strong maybe try the other one next time. dont know my crab types but was so hard to get all the meat out of claws lol. brownie was richhhhh.
Nice food and friendly staff, just the waiting time quite long during lunch hour
The service was super awesome, the food was delicious and the ambience was great too. The whitewine clams are a MUST with their hot bread and butter. The bread is honestly amazing and pairs really well with sauces. We ordered; Spiced Calamari 10/10 when hot, Shrimp Mac and Cheese 7/10, Hot Wings 7/10 and Moonshell Clams 10/10. Also ordered Black Pepper Crab Claws which were 8/10 but at this point we were pretty full. The drinks are AMAZING and a must to cut through all the oil, salt and fat. Overall, 9/10 experience. This place is saved for the special occasions.
Absolutely fantastic seafood restaurant in wellington central. Their crab pot is awesome! Mussels had perfect taste of butter and garlic. They also do some daily deals. Highly recommended for great beer with seafood. This place can get very busy even on weekdays! Chicken wings with hot sauce gets my special attention. Definitely coming back again!
Been here so many times and never been disappointed, great ambience, food is super delicious no matter what you choose but the crabs are my favourite dish by far. Yes sometimes you have to wait for a table but it’s worth the wait, also you can head down to the bar & grab a cocktail or two while you wait & they call you when your table is ready. Great place to hang out with your friends & family. Can’t wait to go back again 😌
I had king crab, clams with white wine which is I mostly like, Taco and fish n chips also I had church road Chardonnay and their tap wine. Their front service was good and the food was good. But the king crab was bit dry and less flavour so I don’t think it was completely not worth but wasn’t that terrible but I really enjoyed their tap wine it’s more than worth and perfect comparison with clam and hot bread and fish n chips. There’s any word to say it’s just good. I definitely come back. Please try their tap wine it’s really worth to try. I had 1 litre guys because it was so good.
Very good, I love the soft shell crabs here, been here more than thrice. Service and food has never let us down. I would recommend it to any person who loved seafood, its affordable better than the much expensive restaurants on Wellington water front.
It was a couple of months ago we came here, second time attending and we were well satisfied with the meal, flavoursome
And very filling, took a wee bit longer to come but the waitress was very informative all the way, we weren’t bothered she was lovely, service was great meal was delicious will be back for another visit
I had dinner at the crab shack on a recent visit to Wellington. Had a few mixed dishes but I had the steamed cockles and mussels for my main in a tom yum soup.
The clams and mussels were beautifully cooked. So tender. The only negative was the soup in which the clams and mussels were cooked was just a bit too salty otherwise a great meal.
Seriously loved The Crab Shack! We rocked in without a reso on a Sunday night.. it was semi packed.
Honestly do try the crabs! We didn’t order any as they’re a mission to eat... and they’re a little bit scary! 😂
We tried the market fish and it was totally worth it!
First time at crab shack, had to wait for the table which was fine. The food took a while also but it was worth the wait. We had mixed clams and crabs with the chilli sauce. It was really good. Loved the atmosphere and the customer service.
The Crab Shack is bloody brilliant!
My friends and I wanted a seafood dinner and this was the spot. Had to wait 45 minutes for a table but definitely worth it.
My partner ordered the Prawn and Crab Cakes and they were so soft and moist with a lovely crunch. Wish it had more Crab but still lovely.
The Cajun Tarakihi was amazing!! The fish was so fresh and juicy and had the lovely Cajun seasoning all over. The hash underneath was the perfect pairing.
The Mac n Cheese is one of the best I’ve had! The bacon and Prawn really elevated the dish and I don’t think I can go back hahaha. Honestly such beautiful dishes and such lovely staff, do visit the Crab Shack!
AMAZING PIE!!! Chips were beautiful 👌🏾 Great atmosphere. Having the rugby going was a big plus! Might need to have a dessert next time as they looked soo tasty :)
Great place to eat. Very consistent. Cool decor showing off the seafood theme. Nice friendly staff and you are right next to the kitchen. Very cool place.
Had the white wine mussels. Half price Monday special. It was divine! Also order the hot bread to soak up the sauce. For no good reason whatsoever Zomato requires me to type more info.
A popular pl down on the welly waterfront, great service, staff and food. Tried the welly burger, a scoop of mussels and prawns. Also great with a bucket of corona’s. Had the rice pudding dessert which was ok bt had chunks of toffee which were too hard.
We came here based on the good rating, although were a bit worried because of the mixed reviews. We had a great time here, the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, we had the mussels and crabs and they were just perfect feeds after the long drive to Wellington. The 80s music playing in the background is just a bonus!
Great place. The staff were really friendly and attentive. The food came out really fast which was a nice surprise. The fastest of any restaurant I've been to. I ordered the shack stack and my steak was cooked to perfection and the potato hash was lovely. I'd definitely recommend this place to everyone I know and will come back
Great place to eat. Fast and great service. Lovely staff members. Sea food lovers must visit. Just by the waterfront with outside sitting option as well.
Overall 3.75!
Atmosphere and staff: bustling and loud! Tables are close together you much touch butts. Cool fishing beachy decor. Staff were lovely and attentive, our waitress knew the menu and the different seafood which helped
Food: the calamari was cooked very well! Still soft and not chewy. The outside could be abit crisper. Tempura crab was delicious and mayo wasn't too much wasabi (thank god!). We got the 500g Jonah crab which was just the claw and meatier (and easier to eat!) The black pepper sauce was a beautiful spice with creamy butter undertones.
The food was full of flavour, however, there were a few problems. The major problem was they ran out of fresh crab and shellfish and only had a limited selection of frozen seafood. The seafood pasta was tasty but was a little too salty. The service was very good and the waitress was very nice and was always checking in on us. Overall pretty good but strange to go to a seafood restaurant and find they have run out of most of the seafood. The background music was also a bit loud so hard to carry on a conversation.
Wonderful food and spirits in the waterfront. The starters were fantastic, try the Bread and Dips, very tasty with great flavors, lots to share. All the food was fresh and delicious, Mondays are half price mussels which are huge! Loved it!
the calamari was amazing. really enjoy it! pro tips: check out their daily deal, eg you can have as many chicken wings you like for $1 each on a Tuesday
Great location. Fabulous food - especially if you love crab and don't mind getting messy!! Reasonably good service - especially given how full it was. Would recommend getting a booking.
Nipped in to The Crab Shack for bubbly and nibbles pre WOW. The service was fantastic. Our waiter, Adam, was charming, chatty and attentive. The food was amazing and even though it was a full house, we didnt have long to wait for our food. Will definitely be back next time Im in Wellington to sample for dishes.
Tempura soft shell crab with wasabi eggs mayo! where have you been all my life?
Amazing food, moroccan calamari was super tender and fish and chips on the spot, kids eat free on Sunday so what more are you looking for?
Came in with friends and family, seated quickly at a window seat! Bonus views! Excited to be here for the first time so ordered a bit of seafood and burgers and chicken wings to try. Sauces are definitely amazing on both chicken and mussels. Crabs was a bit disappointing without much meat but I guess what you pay is what you get lol would go back for them delicious mussels 😀
Awesome awesome meal and service was awesome we ate the recommended meals which were the shrimp macaroni and cheese, calamari and shrimp cakes 👍🏼
Had a lovely experience here and watched young boys catching fish off the edge of the walkway. Service was prompt and happy and the company was great. Choice of food was good and drinks were reasonably priced.
Right there on the waterfront with the perfect view, they serve perfect food too. Had my stomach filled but heart still lusting for more food. Must must go in Wellington 👌🏻👌🏻. For more details check out my blog diocha.wordpress.com
We've been here a few times, never had the crab but everything else we have tasted has been fantastic. Love the atmosphere and location. Great for all ages and wonderful service.
Prompt and friendly service.
Ordered 'small' prawn cocktail - it was awesome. Paella for main was pretty good.
Cheesecake dessert was excellent.
Cool little shack this one. Will definitely come back to get some crabs next time.
Absolutely delicious! This will be a meal we remember for a long time. I went to Crab Shack for dinner with my wife and three kids and my parents who were visiting from overseas. Everyone enjoyed the food, even my three young kids. The evening started tentatively as we were told it'd be a one hour wait for a table. We waited at the bar for about 25mins then surprisingly told our table was ready.
We ordered tempura softshell crab and chicken wings for appetiser. Clams, all three varieties with the three different sauces. Clams were cooked to perfection, the sauces were really tasty; white wine garlic sauce was my personal favourite. Although all were yum. If I had to fault something, the green curry was maybe a tad salty... Although still I'd gladly have another bowl of each. We also had the blue swimmer crabs. Super fresh and yummy sauce. So good we decided to order some bread to make sure we get every last drop. We were served by a friendly waiter, who checked in on us regularly to make sure we were OK. He also interacted with my kids, which they got a kick out of too. Very cool.
Awesome night, thanks Crab Shack.
As per other reviewers, we decided to pick this place for our lunch spot. Luckily we came early as we sat down do ordered, the place was quickly packed in a matter of seconds. Ordered the Jonas crab and shack paella, the crab sauce is a definite stand out for us. The crab was messy to eat whilst the paella was a let down. Not much taste, smells a little fishy and it wasn't baked properly (soupy rice). Saw other dishes ordered by others like the fish n chips and burgers seems to be the popular choices but there won't be next time for us..
Went there 3 times and enjoyed food there.
Nothing bad and you can have a good view but nothing special for me.
It is between good and excellent.
This could be Faneuil Hall in down town Boston - the place is alive.
Crab offerings abound, whether it be crab and corn salsa, crab chowder, or more fulsome offerings. The soft shell crab taco was delish, so too the haloumi taco.
The Moroccan spice calamari was as tender as can be. The nachos with guacamole, spiced pumpkin, and crab/corn salsa were awesome, with large chopati style corn chip discs which are smashed with a muddling stick at the table.
Chips are chips, right? Wrong. Best chips I've had. Perfectly crisp on the outside, pillows of fluffy delight on the inside. And the tomato salsa they come with is exceptional.
Drinks are fast. Service is attentive.
Not a huge fan of the stools - feel like I'll fall off forwards, or backwards. And the constant elbowing of busy staff as they push through the throng wore thin by the end. There's only so many "sorries" before you're ready to stab someone in the eye with a pen.
And reasonably priced.
Food was really good and our waitress Emily was fantastic she knew everything about the menu. We had clam chowder which was amazing and crab to follow with coleslaw which was really good too the chipotle mayo made it. We were disappointed that we had a two hour wait so we were only dinning at 9.30 and by 11.30 they were trying to get rid of us. We were told the kitchen was closed so therefore no more drinks service either, at no point were we offered another drink or anything else to eat. When we politely mentioned this to the manager we were told "you know you can go somewhere else". Sad because the food is really good! Wish that all the service staff could be as good as our waitress.
Green lip mussels were the best, juicy & full of flavours!
Clam fettuccine I found the pasta a bit overdone and too much of sweet chilli sauce, would had like more garlic & seafood flavours.
Service was attentive and efficient.
Just enjoyed dinner at The crab shack on the warf. When you make your way through the revolving door the decor is exactly what you would expect for "the crab shack" rope, lobster baskets, lanterns etc. quite a large place but inviting in that it is devided into different areas. Hubby ordered stake stack and I ordered Calamari and stack fries. While hubbies stack was expectedly thin as a stack the middle was still rare, the slaw had a good balance I'd dressing a tangi and the crispy base of the mash was a gave balance. Well done chef. My calamari was nice but unremarkable but the fries were well cooked crispy but fluffy inside as they should be. Dinner with 1 beer was just under $60 which you'd expect on the warf. Good for group but not an intimate location.
My friend and I had lunch here and the fish taco is excellent! Light and delicious, its a good lunch meal. I have previously been to Crab Shack, but I had the Blue Swimmer Crabs which I wasnt a huge fan off but I did enjoy the Fish Taco.
My friend and I went here for dinner last night. The restaurant is super cozy and has a lovely relaxed feel to it.
The service was alright, the lady that greeted us, Charlotte, was super lovely and called us when our table was ready. Once we sat down it felt like we were being ignored after 10 minutes of trying to gets someone's attention we finally got our orders taken. From then on it was a bit better with a waitress bringing our food etc.
The food was amazing! We shared the prawn and crab cakes, I had the Welly burger and my friend had the mixed scoop with the garlic white wine sauce. Everything was really tasty. Only problem was it was very overly seasoned especially the chips and creamed corn...
I would definitely be back but would make a point for them not to be heavy handed with the salt.
Had the combi special lunch deal and have to say it was delish. Celebrating Jamie Watts birthday and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Tasty crab cakes, beautifully steamed mussels, spicy and crunchy wing, prawn cocktail and crunchy fries, all served on a wooden board with a tangy relish on the side. Wouldn't hesitate to have again.
I'm not one for lines or going for what's trendy. But I heard great things about Crab Shack and I do enjoy tearing apart a big jucy king crab leg. Though the crab was good it was slightly under cooked and a bit watery. Value for money is not a thing here. But the place felt fun and the staff were friendly. I want to give this place a 3, but can't bring myself to do it. They did make a mean cocktail!
It's quite nice to visit here in summer and sit outside. It is a little bit on the pricey side, but I found the quality was quite good. My wife got a fish burger and she really enjoyed it. I know it's a seafood restaurant but I had the steak, which I also enjoyed. Next time we go there, I will try the seafood for sure.
Really nice place! It has good atmosphere!Staff are also really friendly!Shack paella and mussels are good choices. Certainly will return here! But the waiting time for food are too long…
It was a good summer evening so what could be better than a cold beer and some fresh seafood. so we decided to visit The Crab Shack along the waterfront. The food was good and the proportions were really decent. I particularly loved the warm bread with different dippings. The place got busy from 7 so make sure to book a table if you don't want to wait.
Yummy I loved it will go again I am hoping that I will take a group of people. The wait can be a bit long some Times but is worth waiting for I was filled in the portion
Always a good meal and great value for money. A regular for us to take friends from out of town for a casual meal. Staff are always friendly and the menu caters for different tastes. Pick your times though, a sunny weekend day in Wellington sees this place packed.
Went with a large group and everyone was pretty impressed with the food.
Serving sizes were good, the fish was very fresh and the accompaniments were well balanced and tasty.
Service could have been better.
They allowed split bills which was nice Witt a group of 10+
Would return
I've been to the crab shack in AKL and didn't like it at all cause of the difference in menu and general food quality. This is heaps better. We had the soft shell crab tacos which are really awesome. The pulled pork ones are average. The onion rings are very nice as well. The squid rings were good but the aioli had too much garlic. I could've killed a few soft shell crabs with me Garlic breadth 😀. Food Service was a bit slow even though the place was that busy and I had to ask twice for water !!! They got our orders right though cause we made all effort to confuse the poor waitress👍🏾
we dined here for the first time the other night. we had been longing to try king crab so made a trip down from napier just to dine here. we were not disappointed. the king crab was divine. we each had a starter, out of our normal taste and thoroughly enjoyed those and then shared the king crab..... delicious. great surroundings and atmosphere. we would have given a 5 rating but were disappointed coming from the bar and drinking stella only to be told they don't serve it in the restaurant. we will be back :-)
Easily one of the best meals we are in Wellington. It's nothing particularly fancy and prepare to get very messy, but so delicious it's worth every stain on your top. Ordered the crab, bowl of mussels, fries and wine - the perfect combination.
Best Crab ever. Great service plus food was awesome. Had the full package with the proper apron and crab breaking implements. Highly recommended
Had made a couple of attempts to go to Crab Shack in the past but it had always been too busy with at least an hour wait on the ever growing wait list. When we returned for the third time we finally scored a table. We sat outside in the sun. After we ordered, the waiter sat two people right next to us. It was a big table but with four people at the other end, there really wasn’t room for another party and we felt like we had been forced into a friendship. The food was fresh and tasty but it didn’t blow me away. The fish taco lacked seasoning, and some fresh coriander, lime and chilli would have gone a long way. Overall, this is a nice spot but I do feel that it is slightly overrated.
Food was very nice and delicious, loved my lunch, was cooked well I'm not usually a big fan of seafood but I was definitely not disappointed the service was also good. I will be coming back.
Easily some of the best seafood restaurants in wellington. My partner and I frequent this restaurant all the time and every time it's just delicious. The decor is rustic and cosy although the place is huge, and the service is usually really attentive and friendly. The most standout thing I've had here is actually the dessert- their pavlova roll is AMAZING. the way the sorbet complements the pav, how the hazelnuts add a crunch and savory flavor.. it's perfect. Honourable mentions also go out to their seafood chowder, and the pasta. both are perfectly balanced in terms of flavor and just such a gorgeous dish.
Absolutely Crab-tastic!
Dropped in to The Crab Shack on a sunny Saturday afternoon and it was packed! The lovely staff on the door took our names and said they'd give us a call in about 20 minutes when a table came free. We went for a stroll around the pier and not 10 minutes later did the phone ring and we were told we had a table.
Sat down and the atmosphere was great! Our server was very friendly and knowledgeable. We order crab (pictured) which was messy and delicious! We also had some hot wings which were good and a couple other small plates.
Overall a great experience and I'll defiantly come back next time I'm in Wellington.
Awesome location, great service, great cocktails, great food. Highly recommended. Soft shell crab tacos and fettuccine were amazing. Great flavour combinations.
Great burger. Average service but our waiter was in training and he coped well with his mistakes and it was apparent that he was trying and that he cared.
Had lunch with frnd. We arrived at 1pm but no seats available so we were asked to wait for 30mins. In fact just waiting 10 more mins. We ordered chicken wings, mussels, tempura crab and one main dish. We chose tomato sauce to go with mussel which tastes average. Chicken wings disappointed us as they were a little bit dry, seems over fried. I quite like the main fettuccine. Overall food is good, we will come back.
The best garlic grabs ever! Fast friendly service, great prices and a great menu. The drink menu is fantastic too, as well as a superb and well priced cocktail menu. Great casual dining in a lovely position by the harbour. We will be back!
As a seafood lover, the crab shack is a regular visit. The mussel deal on Mondays is extremely hard to say no to as is their other dishes. They also have a range of non-seafood dishes, so I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone. The service is also friendly and attentive, yet not intrusive. Would like to see more range of beer choices. Overall, crab shack is 5/5!
Dined in by myself and enjoyed it.. i had crab and clam fettucini with a prawn croquette on the side which was enough for a hungry traveler. service was good too.. over all a good dining experience..
We ordered the mixed mussels and clams with white wine sauce and the Jamon crab with side of bread. The mussels were amazing and the bread was fresh and warm. Sadly our crab arrived not as a whole crab but as a set of eight claws. This was fine because the claws are the best bits of a crab, however we were underwhelmed by the dish. The kids eat for free on Sundays before 6pm which was a great bonus. Staff service here was top notch.
Fantastic staff with consistently good service. The food is fun and great for sharing, although I'm a little jealous of the rider variety at the Auckland restaurant.
We arrived to a busy restaurant and were told there would be an hour wait. We headed to the bar at adjacent Shed 5 for a drink and were pleasantly surprised when our table was ready in 30mins. Our table was next to the kitchen so we felt a breeze or something from the extractor fans but that wasn't an issue. The waiter was friendly and attentive without being obtrusive and helped us as we were choosing our meals. Entrees arrived quickly and were good; I had the tempura crab taco which was yummy and everyone else enjoyed their mussels and clams. The mains soon came out which were massive and tasty. The creamed corn that came with my burger was seriously the most delicious I've ever had! They charged us again for our drinks at Shed 5 as well as adding in a random sav but removed these after we pointed this out.
What a treat it was, coming back to The Crab Shack and indulging in some Moroccan spiced calamari, plus shrimp croquettes. I have to say the croquettes took the cake, the flavours and tomato relish gave the perfect balance to a shared set of entrees. For the main event I took on the shack paella, second time round and amazing flavours, although the king prawn on top wasn't right. All in all a great meal and atmosphere.
We went on a Wednesday night and were seated very quickly. We had the chicken wings, the crab pot, onion rings, and shrimp cheesy bites. Everything was delicious! Great flavour and cooked perfectly. The wait staff were attentive and food came out quickly. I love the atmosphere of this little place. My only criticism was the chairs weren't comfortable - bar stools that erred towards flimsy, I was afraid of falling off.
Came here on Wednesday lunch. Ordered our favorite 1kg garlic butter crab w a side of fried and creamed corn. Almost perfect. We also ordered the the Shack Stack - the steak was watery and not the juicy kind of way and on their potato hash was 2cm hair - very visible as it was served to us (I wish I took a picure). The waitress was very accomodating and fixed our order. However I left disappointed that it passed the chef and the waitress and no one saw the hair? It wasn't very busy, and cosidering you were paying almost $90 for 2 ppl to eat there I expected the food to be excellent.
Ambience: 4/5
Food: 3.5/5
Service 3.5/5
Food fantastic, service great. Very busy so had to wait awhile but had a drink at Shed5. Will definitely go back there. Recommend the clam chowder.
delicious food. service can be a bit slow at lunch times but it is usually worth it. portion sizes are large and filling, drinks are delicious
We had paddle crabs, clams, mussels and all of the dishes were excellent. One of the only few restaurants in Wellington where you can indulge in seafood. I would not recommend if you have got chicken or red meat in mind. Great food and excellent service and will definitely visit again.
Really nice place !!! The Crab, chips and onions rings delicious !!!! The service it's good. Saturday buy a beer and onions rings for free ☺☺☺
Great night, busy as always and food came out quicker than expected. Tasty, spicy and a great variety of food. Pavlova was not what I thought it was going to be, i still ate it, left feeling full.
Been there with friend Tuesday night few months ago. Waiting for 45mins to get a seat. Clean kitchen, warm & stylish atmosphere. Specially that hanging light with crabbing net really caught my eyes also my friend. Very unique. I like their kitchen. Organised set up and working flow. Customer service is good. Food is tasty and very fresh. There are two reasons I didn't rate this restaurant 5 is that waiting time between each dishes were too long. About half hour each. We were there 5.30. Got seat 6.15. Finish our meal 9.00pm. Spending most time on waiting. Because of their excellent food, we still enjoyed. And we understand this situation as they were super busy. Within that 3 hours, they were full. The other reason is there were two staff at the counter, cashier staff? Let us feeling not fully respected. They were more like busy at chatting.
We will come back to try their another foods
Love their seafood and lovely entrees. Go there every month to have crabs. But make sure you asked their staffs whether their carbs are fresh or frozen before you order.
Heard lots of reviews about the Auckland one and stumbled across this one while we were on holiday, and I'm not a huge fan of seafood so I was a little weary...checked out the menu and saw they had other foods besides seafood and fish haha so on our last night my partner and I decided to go all out. We arrived @ 9:30 and were greeted kindly, sat down read over the menu, then not long after was asked to order. I ordered the steak stack - with hash brown and coleslaw and a cheeky fruity margarita :) my partner got the crab pot and a bucket of corona's. All up our meal and drinks cost $108 not a bad price, the food was outstanding and the staff were all so friendly. The atmosphere was amazing I really felt the beach shed theme they were going for. We would definitely be back if not the one in Auckland
best place for seafood. king crabs are delicious. needs a butter sauce like every other place with crabs.
always very busy. not allowed to book so it makes it hard sometimes to wait. good atmosphere.
The clam chowder is delicious. I love the service. The wait staff are very professional. If you go to crab shack you need to spend money on seafood as these are probably the best dishes. Crabs, mussels and clams are all delicious. burgers are pretty good as well.
As someone who is not a seafood fan, I was a little nervous when I was told this is where we were going for lunch. However I was not left wanting.
The menu is full of seafoodie delights of course, but they also have a delectable range of other meals as well. I had the Shack Stack and it was delish, the food looked and tasted amazing. My partner had the King Crab, it was very impressive looking and tasted great. It was well worth the money.
The service was good, the wait staff were friendly and well presented. The atmosphere is buzzing, the tables around us were turned over a few times while we were there, the place was humming. The place is quirky without being over the top, they have a theme and they nail it.
I will be bac,k no doubt about that. Crab Shack you stunner
Marqueney Unsworth-Blitz

Service continues to be an issue for me each time we visit- very slow to get food to the table which is hard when you are dining with children- long waits between entree and main but great flavours and food is really nice-
Been here few times now, best seafood I've ever had in Wellington, will recommend to all my friends. All the staff are very friendly and very helpful.
Pretty good spot, been a couple of times and the food is pretty good. Had the crabs both times and mixed shellfish pots as well. A fair few barstool tables which we have been seated at with little ones which isn't a winner but on the flip side the other tables are tiny so we had our beer bucket on the floor and had to ask for glasses etc to be removed. Have found that the crabs don't stay hot even if you are motoring through eating.... maybe those pots need a lid or something. Anyway, would return, and have recommended to friends. Shame you cant book tables, would just make life easier. Crabs are nice, messy but delicious, don't be put off by the guy with the juice dripping off his hands/arms... just embrace and eat the crabs!
The best seafood I have ever had in Wellington, will come back again . Like the nelson crab best. the servers were friendly. Need to arrive before 6pm, otherwise, you may need to wait 30 minutes
Clam chowder. Simply amazing...
Delicious seafood!!. Great atmosphere and music,
Easily the best best seafood I've had in a while. We had a couple of share plates of delicious crab cakes and calamari. The calamari was soft and delicious . After that we shared a mixed scoop of shellfish in the white wine sauce...... Man I wished I had ordered 2 scoops!
I recommend you try this place..... And soon !!!!
If you love crabs, then this place is for you, though you would need to get in early if you want to avoid the queues.
I have visited this place several times, and upon one visit they had no crabs, which I was fairly devastated about and ended up ordering other items on the menu.
I decided to take my mum who was down in Wellington visiting me , as I know my other siblings would not take her to places like this. We ordered a couple of crab pots, which she dug and and before I knew it all the crabs were gone. I had asked her how she found it, she responded yes it was lovely. We were forced to return before she left so she can get her crab 'fix'.
Food is good. It is good to see the menu change slightly since the last time we were here.
Portion sizes of the entrees are fairly small, but the mains are fairly large. Their fish burger looked appetizing, which I would like to try on my next visit.
Please visit my website for an indepth review.
Delicious food, I walked in without a booking with 2 friends and found that the waiters were friendly and helpful. I ordered a crab fettuccine, it was absolutely delicious! My only complaint would have to be the slightly uncomfortable seating. We were seated on a high table with high chairs, which may be part of the theme there? Will definitely be back!
Love clam chowder, king crab and cocktails. Paddle carbs were not as good as what I expected, lots of flavor but not very fresh crabs. 45 minutes waiting while we walking kids around waterfront, but Excellent service! Will try the one in Auckland when we get back.
Para quem adora marisco, que é o meu caso, é simplesmente o melhor.
Ambiente super descontraido, bom atendimento.
Adorei..irei com toda a certeza voltar muitas vezes
Very fun and vibrant place to eat. The food was not the best but the beers and the atmosphere makes it a great place to go again. Great vibe great service good food
Yummy meal last night here for a birthday dinner for a friend.table of roughly 20 and all food came out together and all hot. good service and loved the cajun fish. will visit again to sample more goodies
Very entertaining restaurant. They basically don't take reservation for small groups. you should visit bit early for dinner or lunch time.
The crab for share type dish seems bit big for 2 person. But you must try at least 500g type of crab. if you have it with different source like us who don't like lemon grass, they can change for other source as well as bigger crab.
also they give good deal. this is must place if you visit Wellington.
Good service the food in this restaurant is average nothing extraordinary. The dish I ordered is the cajun catch of the day but the best thing I had in this restaurant is the calamari its tender and crisp.
Just loved the Crab Shack. The service was great, the food was amazing and the price - 1 Apple juice, 1 scoop of Mussels, 1 Scoop of Diamond Shell Clams and of course hot bread to dip in the yummp sauce - all came to $38..... VALUE! Highly recommended
The place was pumping even though we arrived early on a weeknight, we got one of the last tables, and after that we saw the waiting list get longer and longer.
First up were the tacos- I wasn’t expecting hard shell and was pleasantly surprised. The fact that they didn’t break onto my plate in a sloppy mess was enough to impress me, but the tangy chicken, guacamole, salsa, and pickled cactus (do they grow their own out back?) combo really did win me over. Judging by the speed at which it was consumed, I think the prawn one was pretty decent too. Next came the sliders- we opted for the lamb. I liked the almost briochy rolls, and the lamb was perfectly tender, but it was missing something. Still not a patch on Depot’s fish sliders, or what we affectionately call the food snob’s fillet o’fish.
It felt wrong coming here and not ordering crabs- so for the main event we twisted, cracked, sucked, and slurped our way through a whole kg of Nelson paddle crabs. They were swimming in their own juices mixed with a tonne of garlic, shallots, parlsey, and of course, butter. We just couldn’t let that sauciness go to waste… they were an ideal accompaniment for the steak fries!
Don’t be deceived by their size, there is crabby goodness in every nook and cranny… you just have to be patient. There’s a certain novelty aspect to the whole experience- the waiter brings to the table utensils which look like surgical equipment but really, you just dig in with your fingers and brace yourself for the messiness. Most would say it’s not first date material but then again, if the conversation is drying up and you don’t care about having another date… this could be a goer!
I've been to the Crab House on Pier 39 in San Francisco, and this place is the NZ equivalent. I had the 1 kg of paddle crab and spent the next hour getting myself super-messy and marinating my hands in the delicious garlic chili sauce. Delicious. The Moroccan calamari was on special the night I went and it was *fantastic*. Must try.
Having been at an early evening cocktail function nearby, we decided to try our luck at getting a table at Crab Shack for dinner afterwards. Even though it was mid-week, Crab Shack was full and we were added to the waiting list for tables. We were told there would be a 15 minute wait, which turned out to only be 10 minutes so fine with us. Waiting staff were pretty much rushed off their feet but were friendly enough. Tables were turning over quickly and we were lucky to score a table by the window just as the sun was setting over the harbour. We ordered the Shack Stack (two sirloin steaks layered with mushrooms and caramelised onions, with potato hash and chipotle slaw on the side) and the Welly Burger, made with a crumbed tarakihi fillet, amazing steak fries and a little tin of creamed corn. Both meals were substantial, delicious and great value. There were bib-clad diners at tables around us gleefully tucking into pots of crabs, something we're keen to try another time. We'll definitely return to Crab Shack and would recommend it to visitors to the city.
When I found out I would be going down to Wellington, the only thing on my list was the Crab Shack. Rarely do you find a restaurant that does seafood well at a reasonable price. The restaurant was packed when we arrived so we had to wait a little while.
We started with the raw fish plater which came with a beautiful lemongrass dipping sauce. We found that the salmon didn't really go with it as well, but the tuna was delicious. The clam chowder was to die for - so creamy and tasted a bit like salted caramel.
The hero of the night was 1kg of Nelson Paddle Crab swimming in a garlic chili butter. Absolute heaven.
brilliant, went there with my girlfreind for the second time.
we really love having tapas and this quirky place is always our go-to for tapas ( especially when we have a 25% off voucher)
I feel like the 'Crab Shack' name has a novelty effect as in it draws you in just by the familiarity of the name. We tried to book a table although they do not take bookings for groups less than 10 people - so we arrived at 7.00pm to try our luck. We flooded in with many other customers and were told the wait would be about half an hour which was ok. We then went to the bar down the end for a drink.. An hour later we were seated. Browsed through the menu which was different to the online version. Once we had ordered the starter came quickly followed by the mains - The portions are massive, I ended up taking half a burger home. The food was really good - nice combinations of foods to make a really nice meal. As much as I loved my burger I wish I got the crab, it smelt amazing. The waiter was lovely, the atmosphere was fitting, good price, great food and would go again.
I love sea food, especially fish, and this place didn't let me down. Started with the raw fish platter, spectacular and a great take/adaptation of sashimi. The popcorn calamari (served in the tin bucket) and the regular calamari could do with more flavour but were a decent sized portion served with tasty aioli. The main event, the Cajun fish, doesn't look aesthetically impressive but a bite into it changes your perspective - thick, generous cuts of fish of the day with a slaw and mash that nicely complement the fish.
While not a cheap eat, I think all in all I got my money's worth and came out very satisfied. Forgot to mention - lovely staff, great service.
We four friends had a delicious late 2.30pm lunch today at the Crab Shack using the Grab One $15 for $30 value Vouchers. Everything was "spot on". All the food was "great and tasty", the service was "great" and it was a beautiful day!! We had a nice sunny spot sitting by the window. What we ordered were: (1)Clam chowder in a jar at $10.00. (2)Crab & clam fettuccini - white wine, garlic, chilli, roasted peppers & parsley at $22.00. (3)The Shack Stack - two rosemary & garlic sirloin steaks, layered w roasted field mushrooms & caramelised onions served with gorgonzola cheese sauce, potato hash & chipotle slaw at $28.00. (4)A pot of Earl Grey Tea at $3.00.The textures and the flavors all complimented each other superbly with their respective tangs and crunches. All this for a total cost of only $33.00. We couldn't had asked for more. Can't wait to try this fabulous place again!!
We've eaten here many times, and it's consistently good.
Cost: Very fairly priced for the quality.
Outstanding plates: If you like crab, you'll love the opportunity to get stuck into a pot of them, and the chowder is out of this world amazing - rich, creamy and addictive. The dip platters are great for sharing, and the cajun fish is delicious. The steak is for seriously hungry customers.
Drinks: The sangrias are amazing.
Deserts: Nice enough, but not particularly memorable.
Waiting for a table is tiresome, but overall, it's a fun and interesting place to eat. The decor is cool, and the service is great. The menu has something for everyone. It's also right on the waterfront, so handy to walk it off if you over do it!
Advice: You can't book in advance, so get there early if you can't handle a long wait.
A very nice place and I would return there to eat if I had the chance of visiting Wellington again. Our waitress was super duper nice! The food was so yummy and the drinks were very refreshing. Among three people, we had a salmon platter, paddle crabs, fries and a mix scoop pot.
I absolutely loved this place! Food was extremely tasty, good selection of beverages, nice atmosphere and excellent service.
Definitely will make a return to this place. Highly recommended to review readers.
We had a great experience at the Crab Shack. We arrived at 5:30pm on a Sunday night to take advantage of the offer of free meals for kids on Sundays - many others had the same idea, so initially it was a little disappointing that there were only high tables available. Unfortunately most of the seating in the restaurant are high tables. Despite the initial seating disappointment, the staff were helpful. With elderly and young members in our family, we weren't keen on the stools with no backs, so we requested chairs with backs on them and the man seating us kindly gathered these from around the restaurant.
Our waitress was also really helpful - we enquired about non spicy options (worried about the mention of chilli etc in some dishes) and even though we didn't realise (until later) that several of us had asked her the same question, she was so patient and helpful and all of her suggestions were absolutely spot on! She checked in on us frequently and made sure we were happy. I really wish I had taken a note of her name (sorry I will have to refer to her as the lovely red headed waitress with an accent), because she deserves a special mention for making our experience a really enjoyable one.
The kids meals were huge! Amazing value - especially since they were free on Sunday night. The starters we shared were tasty. My main (the crab and clam fettucine) was delicious. We didn't try the crab pots though I did see other tables with them, and I'd be curious to go back and try that.
I'm addicted to this place I love it! Lovely atmosphere, great service and yummy crab.
My first visit today with the wife and relatives from Australia (party of 4) for lunch. Coats and jackets taken upon arrival, then seated and menu-ed promptly. Beverage and food orders were quick to arrive. The food was to standard (as one would expect from a celebrity chef restaurant) and service excellent. The total cost was $200.00 and we took 2 hours to dine. The restaurant was 3/4 full. Down side $36 Wilson underground parking for 2.5 Hours. Lesson learned.
P.S. We chose the "Crab Shack" for the crab food dining experience. If we wanted steak, we would choose a "Steak House" and if we wanted Fish & Chips we would have gladly paid $20 at the local shark & spud shop. As for the $2.50 per head cake charge...simple rule...NO CAKES ALLOWED! For goodness sake, this is a restaurant.
It was my 3rd visit , and like the others I was extremely happy with my meal and service. There was 8 in my party, and all agreed with me that the food was out of this world. On these visits it was my pleasure to have the nice young male waiter I think his name was Paul, he acknowledged me. This is the sign of excellence in service. I will be passing on my recommendation
to visit this fun eatery.regards to all. Carole
One meat/fish eater and one vegetarian. We had the paddle crab, a vegetarian Caesar salad, a veggie taco, and some garlic bread.
The crab was delicious, and the poor veggie had to wait for 2 hours while his friend picked through every last ounce of crab meat :)
The waiter was very friendly and helpful, and the ambiance was fantastic with its "fishy" decor. We had a nice window seat on a rainy Sunday lunchtime.
Looking forward to going back and tasting all the other seafood!
Went there yesterday (19th Sept 2013, Thur) with a group of friends around 5.30pm after reading some reviews regarding the shortage of tables. We were seated immediately, but the tables began filling fast, so anyone who's wanting to dine there for dinner, go early!
The service was wonderful, I haven't got a thing to say against the service we've received. The staff was very friendly, and every time our water jug was empty, someone would immediately come and switch it to a full one. And when one of our members had some issue with her food, she was immediately given an apology and they gave us a completely new dish.
However, the reason I've docked off one star is because of the food. I had ordered one of the burgers, and the fries that came with it were wonderful! The best fries I've had in a while. Also, the creamed corn was very nice. But I'm sorry to say, the burger was a bit bland. I think it was the Big Jed Burger? Hm... Also had ordered 1kg crab dish, which was bigger than what we could finish, but must say, it was very hard work for a little morsel of flesh.
But overall, it was a good experience. I found it very amusing that they served alcoholic drinks in a cup which resembled jam jars (with a little handle for the beer!). Thank you very much!
A big thank you to the staff of Crab Shack who helped to make our 50th Wedding Anniversary family get together a very special night out on Saturday 7th September. Good food, great atmosphere, and we had the best table in the house, right in the window. We will certainly be back. Sandra and Ray Savory Waikanae.
I recommend this restaurant for all! We came here last Saturday (31st of August) The food was superb, the atmosphere was "pumping" and the service was out of this world. Two waiters stood out, an English boy with some-what long hair who was our waiter and a blonde girl with a pink bow who seemed to just check on everyone (apologies but unsure of names). They made our night! Firstly due to their care of us. Actually talking to our little children and asking for their decisions, not what we would say for them (Good choice on the marshmellow snowman). Secondly for their vibrancy. They were always smiling and grooving, especially when "Fat Bottom Girls" by Queen came on (Great song). Singing and dancing/bobbing. It was wonderful to see young adults just having fun at work and enjoying what they do. For anybody wanting a fun night, with waiters who enjoy life and really care about their customers go to "The Crab Shack". Whenever we return to the city we most definitely will be returning, hopefully to be seeing our waiters to be rocking out to some more timeless classics!
I only have one word to describe today's experience at The Crab Shack and that is "Epic". I went in on my own for a quiet lunch on my day off and from the moment I walked in I was greeted with smiles from both the staff and the happy customers on their way out. After being shown to my table (which I got to chose myself) I nipped to the bathroom (which was immaculate) and when i returned I had water on my table waiting for me and a waitress ready to take my drink order!!
I ordered a Beach bum cocktail (rum, banana and juices) , the korma prawn taco, cajun fish of the day (blue cod) and a side manchego and rocket salad.
The cocktail; perfectly mixed. The prawns; clearly fresh, nicely spiced, well presented in the crisp taco shell. Cajun fish; lightly seasoned, cooked to perfection, sat on a crisp and delicious potato hash, amazing sauce and coleslaw accompaniment. The salad - To die for; simple and understated, perfect sized portion, the best dressing I've tasted in a long time, ot one of these ridiculously sour vinaigrettes!
So in summary I would give 10/10 on both food and service but thing I mostly want to get across is the freshness, I couldn't fault a thing!
Keep up the good work guys!!!
Good food, good service, well worth the wait!
I visited recently to celebrate my friend's birthday. It was lunch time and we loved the food, especially the crab, soup and mud cake. The staff were fabulous. I think the prices are a little high for the size of the portions, that was my only negative. The quality of the food brought tears to my eyes. Truly!!
The best thing Simon has ever done. Just saying. If you are visiting Wellington as we were, do not miss this. Get in early, put your name on the list and wait for a table. Worth every minute. Lovely to see the old hands Roxy
And Robbie. Love it!!!
Very well set up restaurant with amazing service and good food.
Apparently the staff also work at the attached parent restaurant Shed 5, an iconic Wellington fine dining establishment - so no wonder they were all fantastic, friendly, and professional.
I ordered the King Red Crab leg and was slightly disappointed with my choice due to the small portion size. Especially as it was under the heading "Crab to Share" and cost $25. Considering I could have eaten three or four to myself, perhaps it should be listed under a different section? I'd consider it to be an expensive starter. It WAS however delicious, which made finishing it in 5 minutes all the more painful - so 'quality' gets a thumbs up.
My fault for not asking and requesting to see an uncooked sample I guess - the nice staff would have obliged I'm sure.
This small portion size was not indicative of the whole menu - I jealously eyed up my friends meals which were generous and all apparently fantastic. Buckets of mussels & clams, burgers, blackened fish... drool
The beer selection is absolutely terrible unfortunately, which is unusual in Wellington these days. They need to ditch the Lion products and a Tuatara or Garage Project rep needs to get their arse in there asap.
Cocktails were delicious and wine list great though.
Experience was great, great ambiance and open kitchen feel. Will be back to try something else soon.
Run, do not walk, to the Crab Shack which has just opened on Queens' Wharf (redeveloped half of Shed 5).
The food is great, portion sizes huge, reasonably priced and arrived quiclky despite a full house. Our table had fish burgers (sides of steak fries and creamed corn), lamb sliders and fish. I'll be returning for the creamed corn alone which was out of this world. I've already got my eye on the beef ribs for my next visit.
The staff are super friendly and professional. We went for lunch on a Friday and it was packed, they don't take bookings for less than ten people but trust me it is worth the wait.
The Crab Shack is a Cape Cod style restaurant on the Southern End of Shed 5. I had walked past it a couple of weeks ago and vowed that I would eat there some time soon. From the outside it screamed that it would be another restaurant ala Mexico, Orleans and Miss Clawdy but with a fishy twist.
With my mother in tow, we popped in for lunch during a break between shows and shows and shows. We’d discovered early on in the week that with night time performances, lunch was our staple meal of the day.
As we poked our heads inside, we were first met with a total absence of customers. Are you open? I asked and a waitress quickly replied yes we are! We were led to select a table and once seated were quickly introduced us to the style of the restaurant and the daily specials.
With our phones plugged into the conveniently located plug beside our table we got stuck into ordering. Starting with the daily special sliders…. (two lamb, one salmon) and the Cajun catch of the day – Charcoal barrel grilled terakihi with a lime and red pepper sauce on a potato rosti and served with coleslaw.
We were pretty pleased with this selection.
The sliders were yummy but the terakihi really stole the show. The textures, the flavours, it all complimented each other superbly with tangs and crunches and smooth, flaky perfectly formed fish.
Every detail at the Crab Shack seemed to be crafted to create the atmosphere of a place where you’d ideally eat seafood, from the blue and white checkered napkins to the enamel bowls to the crab pots hanging from the roof. My only negative would be that I was disappointed that they had run out of soft shell crab!
The Crab Shack really ticked the boxes for me and is a restaurant that I am champing at the bit to take Adam to (I want an excuse to order the kg of paddle crab with garlic butter!!!!). The prices were totally reasonable, the food delectable and the service really friendly. Lots of ticks!

The Crab Shack, opened at the beginning of 2013, is located at Shed Five on Queens Wharf, Wellington. Facing the harbour, the eatery has a quirky interior where light bulbs are surrounded by colourful crab traps and the dining room is filled with coastal themed decor. We arrived just after 5 pm and managed to get a table and the place filled up shortly after with about half to one hour wait for a table (they only take bookings for ten or more people).
If you are here for crabs, you might be slightly disappointed with the limited crab options, but they do however, have a decent variety of other seafood including clams, mussels and fish as well as steak, lamb and burgers for the meat eaters. My sister and I ordered the 1kg Nelson Paddle crab cooked with chilli-garlic butter and a scoop of clams cooked in white wine, chilli and garlic cream. Initially, we were not sure which type of clams to order, so our lovely waitress (thank you, Jane) offered us a mixed scoop of clams (diamond, tuatua and moon shell) so we could try them all.
We accompanied our seafood feast with a side of chunky steak fries. Skin on and deep-fried, they were a perfect companion to our rich seafood feast.
We had a total of four meaty crabs that we devoured with our hands and a very good portion of clams. Although I would have preferred the crabs to be plain, the chilli-garlic butter intensified the flavours of the crab without overpowering it. The chilli gave both dishes a slight bite, but it is not excessively spicy. Overall, I am very impressed with the Crab Shack. It has a fun and casual atmosphere and the food is non-pretentious and simply amazing. The open kitchen is a great way to witness the busy chefs cooking away over the hot stoves and charcoal barrels and the attentive staff were entertaining and friendly.
Have you got crabs? Because they have!

I had heard very mixed reviews before finally getting around to sampling the Crab Shack for myself. I was very impressed by the service right from the moment we walked in. They didn't have a table for us straight away, so we sat in the bar. We ordered crab to share, and a burger as well. The food was good - but to be honest I was expecting more from the crab. We seemed to get quite small pieces and not a lot of meat in it (Yes, I know that's what crab is like, but even more so this time). I was glad we got it to share, and it wasn't what I had planned to eat as a main. The flavours were good though, and the atmosphere lives up to it's reputation. Overall, a really enjoyable evening.
this is our whanau restaurant of choice. who would have thought that the tin mugs and plates that were de rigeur back on the East Coast would resurface as a fashion statement one day? But it's absolutely true, here we are eating off those same plates, drinking out of jam jars and it's not because we're too poor to afford anything better, no way, not at these prices! But I digress ... the real reason we keep coming here is that we can get a big feed of kaimoana - tuatua, kutai (mussels), pipi -. and we can put that together with some great chips, serious burgers, whatever we feel like. Crab Shack has a fun vibe and the staff are young, enthusiastic and friendly. The "from the earth" selections are a good attempt at capturing hangi flavours too. Awesome to see a kiwi restaurateur bringing some of our maori style kai into the mainstream.
Service: 4.5/5
Ambience: 5/5
Food: 4/5
Value for Money: 4/5
Top stars all around. Stumbled in here on a whim and am so happy I did. A storm is blowing outside and I am as happy as a clam in here. The mussels are magnificent; the fish and chips is good. If there is beer in heaven, it'll be Panhead Stout — it's that delicious.
highly recommended but the portion might be a bit too small 🫶 love the steak- the cheese sauce's just *chef kiss*🫠
One of Welly’s best spots for casual, tasty seafood. It’s super close to TSB Arena and other entertainment venues. It’s also right by the water, which is one of Wellington’s best attributes. Their seafood is nice across the board, but they also have great hot wings, caesar salad, and burgers. The drink menu has a lot of tasty, creative drinks, and the dining room is spacious. It’s busy at dinner time and especially on the weekends so as with all Wellington restaurants, do try and make a reservation ahead of time.
If you're a seafood lover or simply craving an unforgettable culinary experience, this restaurant is an absolute must-visit. The crab dish, with its impeccable cooking and heavenly sauce, will transport you to a world of pure gastronomic pleasure. Prepare to indulge in a culinary masterpiece that will leave you with memories to savor for a lifetime.
Furthermore, the staff's efficiency and professionalism were commendable. Despite the restaurant being busy, they managed to maintain a high level of service. Would certainly return on my next visit to New Zealand.
The food are fantastic and service are friendly. We have an enjoyable evening to dine there. We love all dishes especially the crab. Crab lover shouldn’t go home without it.
Excellent Service @ Crab Shack.
.
Nearly missed out because I didn't have a reservation or a local New Zealand phone number, and the place was fully booked.
.
After travelling for 12+ hours just to dine here, and be stopped at the door, was incredibly frustrating. Thankfully, staff were willing to accommodate me; I nearly cried for joy.
.
A big thank you and my deepest appreciation to the staff of Crab Shack Wellington!.
.
The Shack-Spiced Calamari (NZD $17) appetizer features large fresh calamari squid rings, coated in a light all-purpose flour batter, seasoned with salt and pepper.
.
Has a bouncy chewy texture and mild savoury salty peppery spice flavour, yum.
.
The Shellfish By The Scoop, Mixed (NZD $19 for 500g) feature a bucket generously packed with a medley of different shellfish, in your choice of stew.
.
The Green-Lipped Mussel, juicy and bouncy with mild natural sweet savoury flavour. The Moon Shell Clam, firm and chewy with intense meaty savoury salty flavour. The Diamond Shell Clam, juicy and bouncy with bold salty nutty sweet flavour.
.
The shellfish, including mussels and clams, were served in my choice of stew; a white wine, garlic, red chili, and cream blend.
.
The stew was thick and robust, with bright milky floral boozy herbal sweet savoury salty spice flavour, infusing the mussels and clams with good flavour, yet you still taste the natural flavours of the shellfish. Very yummy and enjoyable.
Hey there Wellington foodies. If you're on the hunt for a tasty and filling meal in Wellington, I have to recommend the Crab Shack on the waterfront. And if you're looking for something extra special, you should try The Shack Stack.
My dish was an absolute powerhouse of flavor. Two juicy rosemary garlic sirloin steaks that are cooked to perfection and seasoned just right. The spuds are the perfect sidekick to this protein-packed dish.
I must give a thumbs up to the presentation - the steaks and mushrooms are stacked on the plate and the spuds are piled up alongside. It looks almost too pretty to eat... almost.
The portion size is generous and will leave you feeling satisfied and happy.
Overall, I highly recommend checking out the Crab Shack and giving The Shack Stack a try. The food is amazing, the location is nice, and the interior and decor is something unique.
Have been here before but a long time ago. Was really good to have afternoon brunch with my family and the mussel deal was great! Definitely recommend and will return again.
A must when you visit Wellington!
Great atmosphere, perfect and kind service gorgeous food!!
Lovely experience with our family on a sunny wellington day. We sat outside and were promptly served by the staff. I personally had the caesar salad and also the calamari. both were so fresh and very tasty. The salad had lots of toppings on it however the dressing was a little watery, the mozzarella garlic bread could have been cooked a little bit longer as it wasn't really melted or toasted. The calamari was seasoned nicely and cooked well.
I had a creaming soda mocktail which was very refreshing and fruity tasting lovely. Wasnt much of an option for kids so that wasnt great. Needed a better kids menu. Everyone else said their meals were very good also. Would 100% go again.
Great waterfront setting with equally good food. Cajun catch of the day (red snapper)was excellent as were the green mussels and raw fish platter. Reservation is probably needed but we were able to walk in on a Friday night and sit right down. 10 minutes later there was a 30 minute wait.
Funky, dive-bar-like atmosphere with really good mussels and chips. Nice wine selection. Very fun servers. Liked it so much the first time that we went back a second time
From the moment we walked in we were greeted by the most friendly and amazing person (tall guy glasses and wearing a blazer) ordered the mussels and cocktails and the female looking after us was amazing friendly and able to have a yarn. She found out it was a birthday in our group of 4 so got a candle and a treat for her.
The reason I'll be coming back is the service. Awesome
This was a Saturday lunch, great service, and great seafood.
Nice seafood here, with a great location and lovely staff.
We just returned from a family dinner here and it was most excellent! Starting with Kieran finding us an excellent table and then Dee being the most delightful waitress anyone could imagine! She looked so well after us, made excellent suggestions and made us laugh so hard. We had the raw fish starter and then Cajun catch of the day for mains, both absolutely wonderful and paired with some great wine. Our 5 year old had the Cheeseburger, which I tried and found heavenly. It was also priced reasonably. Thank you for a wonderful dinner experience!
Great seafood options, excellent for entertainment of Asian Clients, recently they even added rice to the menu! Excellent service & high food quality. They dont do bookings so best to be punctual and arrive prior to the busy times if you want a classy table. Thanks CJ
