Simply the best steak in Wellington. Great atmosphere with elegant decor and classy service. Desserts are very tasty and great value. We eat there regularly and everything is always consistently superb.
Have dined here many times and am always impressed with the food, service and wine list. A fabulous local for us. The menu is simple which makes it easy for meal selection.
Not sure if this is new to Khandallah but I've only just noticed it so popped in for brunch.
The decor was simple and elegant. This isn't meant to be derogatory but it fits the style of Khandallah - it wouldn't fit Cuba St kitsch if you get what I mean.
The food is nice; it isn't the cheapest place so I have loved a wow factor that wasn't quite there but it was nice.
The service was great. Couple of lovely chaps that really were all about proper service which I really appreciated.
Coffee was nice too, not sure what brand but it was definitely drinkable. It was quite a deep colour and was strongish which I like (others may not).
Delicious food in a warm and relaxing atmosphere. We came here in a group of 8. Entrees came out in good time and were tasty. Mains and then desserts all lovely too. I would describe it as casual fine dining. Very nice.
First Impression : High class, not my type of food.
Reality : Amazing flavours! The server was very friendly.
For the entrée, we ordered the toasted Turkish bread with butter (very nice), seared scallop (I normally do not have scallop but this was an exception; really good gravy).
For the mains, we ordered fish (amazing flavour) and chicken (yummy).
For the dessert, we had the chocolate tart with vanilla gelato (nice; loved the gelato).
PS: The fact that the owners were personally present and looking after the customers took the whole experience to another level.
We went there last night with friends. The food was delicious. I had the fish which was snapper. Fresh and melt in your mouth. My husband had the pork and said it was tender and delicious. The desserts all looked great, making it hard to chose but I had the coconut gelato and my husband had the homemade ice cream. Both a lovely way to finish a meal. The service was excellent, friendly and discrete. The waiter was constantly filling our water glasses. We will definitely go there again, in fact we don't know why we have left it so long.
Great food and very well looked after by the staff. The menu is not extensive but what is on the menu is presented well and tasted great. I will certainly be back.
A perfectly good meal in a perfectly lovely location.
Our parents who visited from the UK took us out here as a treat for having them stay. We have lived in Khandallah for years but never been in here, I am not sure why.
The restaurant itself is lovely and the food was too. I even tried scallops and liver off others plates and declared both not as bad as I imagined, both are on my yuck list. All of us enjoyed what we had and Miss11 enjoyed her fish.
I will certainly go back for the food, hospitality and environment, a great place to have down the road from us.
I've been to Taste loads of times over the years. I always feel like I'm out fine dining, even though the prices are very reasonable.
Taste is a place where I feel confident in ordering anything on the menu. The chef clearly knows what they're doing and everything that comes out of the kitchen is cooked to absolute perfection. I like how the menu has a bit of everything on it, so you can always find something that you feel like. The only minor qualm I have with the menu is that it doesn't ever change. Though, when you've got something that perfect, why would you need to change it.
Brilliant as always. Had dinner with my wife a week ago and the food was stunning. Generous servings and friendly service. A real asset to the village.
Consistently excellent with friendly, efficient service. This is a very popular local restaurant so if you're going for the "brunch" during the week and weekend turn up early as unfortunately you cannot book. In the evenings it is possible to book but it does get booked out regularly. I am slowing going through both brunch and dinner menus and have never been disappointed.
Great service, and the food is absolutely phenomenal. It is the best food I have had in Wellington and I have eaten at a lot of restaurants in the city. Really nice owners, and the wait staff are attentive but not intrusive. Will certainly visit again and bring our friends.
We used to dine here regularly but hadn't been in about 2.5years due to having a child. We decided to go for lunch today (with small child in tow) and had yet another fantastic dining experience. The food, coffee and service is consistently of a high standard - we've never experienced a single off day - and they were very flexible and accommodating to our three year old (not really their target audience) by offering to plate her a half potion of anything on the menu. The menu steps a little outside the mainstream lunch/brunch offerings as well, which makes a refreshing change. We will be back!
We have been to Taste several times over the last few years, and are always really impressed with the experience. It is definitely our favourite restaurant, and being local makes it even better. The service is absolutely flawless - friendly and attentive without being obtrusive. The food is delicious. The ambience and decor is relaxed yet classy. if I had one recommendation it would be to dim the lighting a fraction, to create a more private setting. Would thoroughly recommend this restaurant to those wanting a more 'special' dining experience.
We'd heard great things about Taste, so tried it one Saturday morning for brunch. We weren't disappointed. Service was impeccable and the food absolutely delicious.
Turning up with 3 children in towto what's quite a stylish place didn't cause a ripple - we were offered half portions, and in the end a large breakfast was plated between two beautifully. Ingredients fresh, high quality and presentation excellent. Coffee fantastic.
Pricewise, it's up there certainly. And they could have done with making the blue cheese on toast breakfast a bit more substantial - but it's quality through and through.
Fantastic.
My husband and I went for a quiet dinner having heard good things about this suburban restaurant.
We found a small restaurant that has been cleverly made to feel light and spacious by the generous use of large mirrors, warm neutral colours and good lighting.
We found the service excellent, arguably the best we've had in Wellington. Discreet, efficient, thoughtful, flexible, knowledgeable - overhearing me muse over the wine I would like but would not be able to drink a whole glass of since I was driving, they offered to pour me a half glass; water glasses were kept full at all times in a very discreet manner; and the dessert we decided to share was thoughtfully split onto two plates for us without us asking. We were invited to relax and stay as long as we liked and consulted on the length of time we would like between courses. The atmosphere was relaxed but the service was wonderfully attentive without being intrusive.
The food was simple and elegant. Each dish we enjoyed was well-presented and considered, and just the right amount. The star dish for us was the seared scallop entree - they were cooked to perfection and served in the most sublime creamy curry sauce.
We loved our experience there and will definitely be back sooner rather than later.
Pleasant attentive service and sublime food followed by
excellent coffee.
Made my visit here for Dinner with a group of friends the highlight of my Christmas. Looking forward to the opportunity to dine here again
It never ceases to amaze me. I have eaten at this restaurant 5 times now over a period of a few years, and I am still impressed with the whole experience of eating here. It is always very busy. I love the little sandwiches served at the beginning and the service is great. The menu is simple but stylish and not over the top with a whole swag of dishes. I have never left food on my plate because it is always is a joy to eat without feeling overly full. Friendly welcoming staff. It does pays to book because it is so popular..just enjoy.
Always a good experience!
Taste claims to be a "suburban dining room" which is an accurate description. It has a short menu, all of which is beautifully presented and well made.
Service is absolutely impeccable. The wine list is interesting and varied.
It's a good place for a couple or a small group. Best to call ahead as it is often full.
After seeing Taste Suburban Dining Room on Zomato, my wife and I rang and booked a table. There was nothing to dislike about the location, the staff or the food. A small and cosy place, with people around who clearly knew each other, looks like it's a regular haunt for the locals.
As soon as we sat we were given small quarters of fresh white bread with cucumber and cream cheese. Nice.
We shared a lamb's fry entrée (bought to us on two plates) and it was perfect, really the best I've tasted. I had a beef mains, cooked exactly as ordered, medium-rare. So many places get that wrong. My wife had a pork mains, and actually cleaned her plate. Never seen that happen before! Sides of lettuce salad and fresh potato nuggets were served with the mains, simple but also very tasty.
Dessert.... home made honeycomb ice cream, what a glorious finish to an excellent meal.
I don't usually get effusive about restautants but this is the first time in quite a while that everything we saw, heard, touched or ate was just right.
We have been going to taste for many years. Service and food is always outstanding. One of our fav's.
Great place to have brunch in Khandallah. Dishes were well prepared. But it would have been nice if the big breakfast had some sausages also. And perhaps a baguette is not quite the right bread to have for French toast possibly something less tough.
Very warm and cozy atmosphere. Great service and great food. Starters cost around $20.00 and mains over $35 to $40. My steak was cooked perfectly and I thoroughly enjoyed the food. Will go there again
Excellent food and service!!! Cosy&Happy atmosphere!! Definitely visit next time!! Highly recommended!
Highly recommended! Recently went for wife's bday, the food and overall service was great. They also accommodated additional guests in short notice who popped in to celebrate without much fuss. The food is exquisite and staff very friendly. We will be back.
For us, my husband and I, it's one of the two places to go in Khandallah ❤️✨ When we are here, we don't regret the town and its opportunities... Once inside all is like the name, "tasty" :)
Thoroughly delicious breakfast, pate was amazing and the fish was spectacular. Would love to return for dinner.
Amazing food, exceptional and friendly service. You are in for a treat here. And they were so helpful booking a taxi home. Will definitely be back
Our company had an end of year meal here. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal, and commented on how good each course was. I plan on returning again. I had blue cheese entrée, lamb and choc mousse. I'd happily order the same again. Thanks.
The food is consistently good. Service is great. ( Coffee arrives before it's even been ordered if you are a regular. ) Gary and David are so welcoming. Best place for Sunday Brunch😀
As always, fine dining at it's best. Happy to accommodate slight changes to a meal where possible. Delicious food at every turn. David and Gary are amazing hosts. Highly recommend.
