My local cafe that never lets me down. It’s great that they have learned my name, and always have nice choices. Their scones are the real winner. It can sometimes a let down when they don’t have any ready made.
Excellent dessert!! Slice was not too sweet, just right. Probably not too keen on dining in though as space is limited and can easily get quite cramped.
Amazingly yum cabinet food 😎 definitely recommend going for one of these options! I'm not a big coffee drinker at all so not a good judge but often quite busy with a large number of local regulars which I think speaks for itself.
Lovely homely food & service. Staff are amazing. Always a go to for coffee. Would recommend the chicken quesadillas and rhubarb scones to everyone!
The baked goods here are fantastic. Homemade and hearty. Coffee also good. However, staff was not welcoming. I came in with a friend and the lady ignored us to clean tables. Took a good 10 minutes before we were noticed. Also, no labels on the cabinet items. Therefore, had to ask about each item as it was my first time there. The staff looked annoyed by this but how were we suppose to know if it is not labelled. I personally would not go back to dine but rather takeaway.
Always amazing food, it's now the favorite spot, I can't stop eating here. Like seriously I almost need a Gipsy Kitchen intervention. Thanks for the snacks guys!
We go to Gipsy Kitchen every now and then, the food is always delicious. The difficulty is that nothing in the cabinet is labeled, which would be fine if it wasn't always packed (which it is, because it's good) but it's a pain to have to hold up the line to ask what everything is.
They do some really tasty GF sweet treats, but they don't really offer healthy vegetarian options - would love to see some GF vegetarian sandwiches or quiches.
Sunday lunch. Wide selection of food including GF options, friendly attentive team and a cool eclectic atmosphere. Great coffee and reasonable pricing. Will definitely be back.
When I hear of a deli I immediately think of an eatery offering a good range of sweet and savoury items and lots of it... When I arrived, it was just one large cabinet of foods where I was struggle to determine what to order, as I was also thinking they would have food cooked to order from a menu, but this was not the case.
I ended up getting a filled baguette and a sweet pie which tasted better than what I had anticipated.
Please check my website for an indepth review.
Best pie ever. Need I say anymore.
This pie was given by a friend and I devoured it over 3 or 4 days. Best pie I've ever had without a doubt!
The restaurant obviously has a following, when we arrived there was a line and by the time we left the place was packed. I couldn't really point out any specific dishes as all were unique and had an interesting mix of flavours. The staff did make choice recommendations as well. Be sure to try it out probably after visiting Weta cave.
Gypsy Kitchen produces nice homely food with genuine creative flair. They take commonplace recipes and add their own unique twist to produce some really surprising flavor combinations.
The portions are generous and the prices are fair minded too. Service is obliging and wait times for food is, in my experience, short.
All in all a really nice little eatery I throughly recommend.
Really impressed by these guys! I hadn't heard of them before but a friend recommended I try them. I didn't eat in but I bought a quinoa salad to takeaway which was delicious and only $5 for a huge serving that filled me up heaps. I tried the caramel and rhubarb scone which was pretty tasty. I also got some of their marinated olives and homemade hummus and also some goats cheese and they are all fantastic - best olives I've ever had! Will definitely come back. Service was great to!

After hearing from a local source to try this little place out - I thought why not.
First impressions from the outside looks retro and colourful yet homely. As you walk in all your senses light up whene a huge spread of assorted foods in the display cabinet catches your attention. To your left is a fridge filled with organic goods while to your right is the rest of the Cafe with window seating available. This searing then retracts further back to a courtyard dinning area where the bathrooms are located too. Throughout this Cafe are quirky displays which all tie in with it's gipsy theme.
I decided to order a flat white (being a Barista myself and an avid coffee drinker I find this a good common denominator to rate coffees against one another) which came out in a comfortable 5 mins. Temperature - perfect. Taste - perfect. Visual - good (still put in the 5c effort of making a tulip or any kind of pattern on your coffee, very important being in the hospitality industry)
Over all I was happy and couldn't fault their friendly, happy service.
I cant give it a 5 as I didn't get the chance to rate the food.
Was in the area and after hearing good things decided to try Gipsy Kitchen out. The outside gives you a good hint of what's to come. Colorful and quirky.
Walking inside and the offers of food were very tempting so after ordering a flat white to go, I also decided to get a goat's cheese and aubergine tart. It tasted nice but for the price I found it small and feel that they could have tried to incorporate the toping into the filling which was otherwise just egg.
the coffee was good.
The food is AMAZING! All made on the premises, fresh and tasty. I'm so glad I listened to people and paid a visit. Children's activity packs by Sophina were a nice touch too.
Gipsy Kitchen freshly bake up an array of tasty treats for tummies. The coffee is awesome its always cozy inside and has a great mix of customers that are easy to chat to should you feel the desire to. :) i will certainly be going back haw haw haw.
A really impressive little cafe. Coffee was super good. Food was exceptional. The cabinet food is extremely impressive. I had Quesadilla filled with chicken, chilli and coriander. The taste lingered on for a long time from the coriander, yum! Such a cute little cafe with so much to offer, I totally recommend it.
One of he best kept secrets of Eastern Suburbs. Amazing cafe food that is unique. A good wine list. A handful of excellent craft beers. A fire in winter. One of the best coffees I have come across. Great staff. You can't ask for more. Go on the odd hours to avoid the queue, not that it lasts for that long.
Great little place, tucked away on a side street, yet it's still busy. Food is fantastic, love their smoked salmon. Somewhere to definitely visit if you're in the area or even worth a trip to that side of town.
Gipsy kitchen is a place you only find through word of mouth. Their Counter food is always delicious and their apple pie is to die for. Staff are always very friendly.
Gipsy Kitchen is one of those places you don't know about until someone tells you it exists. It's a bit like it’s a well-kept secret.
Its location adds to the mystery as it is well out the way down a little street in Strathmore - you wouldn't really find it unless you were looking for it!
I first went here two years ago. It was a small place but busy with (as promised) good food.
We went back today and saw that it has expanded into the building next door with an indoor and covered outdoor area. There is also seating out front. It has a cool, relaxed vibe. Not pretentious. Staff were friendly and helpful too.
The cabinet food on offer looks delicious. We took a while to choose. In the end I went with vegetable frittata with a salad, and my partner ordered a bacon and egg frittata with a salad.
Although they were busy, our food only took 5 to 10 minutes to arrive. The frittatas had been heated to a nice temperature.
I like flavoursome food. The flavours in these dishes were subtle, yet perfectly balanced and complimentary, that I didn't feel the need for sauce or salt. Perfect.
The salad was equally impressive. Chickpeas, red cabbage, red chili, celery, spinach, carrot and cucumber dressed with, what I think was, lemon juice and wholegrain mustard. It worked perfectly. Clean and fresh. We discussed trying to recreate it at home.
Both meals with salads cost $24.00
We didn't order drinks, just had a bottle of the free minted water. They do have coffee, soft drinks, wine and craft beers on offer that I saw. Several from the Panhead range and a couple of others. Good choices!
We were just popping in for a light brunch, but will definitely be back to try some of their other fare.
Gypsy Kitchen serves as a deli and mini grocer, as well as a place to kick back and tuck into some homemade organic food. We got as far as a macchiato and piccolo and a superb rhubarb & caramel scone. I need the recipe for those scones!
If you are looking for fantastic cafe and deli food, this place satisfies my taste buds. Their Hot Cross buns are legendary and fortunately seasonal.
Well worth trying. Parking is a mare. So expect a short walk. The food more than makes up for it.
I discovered they make the best seed bread in the world- it is to die for! The staff are awesome - very friendly, fab funky decor and it is fast becoming my fav little cafe to stop in for a cuppa - you guys rock!
Went to Wellington for World of WearableArt, tried the usual cafes on the Wellington scene ..coffee always good, food ok, dropped rental car off in Stathmore, expecting to find very little in delights and came across this amazing place...food gorgeous, ambience amazing... loved this place, "edgy" staff, great coffee, even down to the "cuckoo clock", great quesadilla ...being an "Auckland "café owner often quoted as owning" a Wellington style of café", can only say, you guys are doing something really good, restored my faith and inspiration, and hope you stick around as I will be singing' your praises, thank you!!!
Lovely food and the coffee is the BEST. staff super friendly and always helpful!
An awesome spot to pass the day - plenty of good coffee and fine fresh food being served straight from the hot oven to your plate!! Take a seat on a nice sunny afternoon and prepare to be amazed. The staff are always friendly and love to share their wicked sense of humour with their customers. You won't want to leave!!!
Tucked away in the suburban wilderness of Strathmore is Gipsy Kitchen, a deli cum café that serves delicious counter food, as well as a handy range of pre-prepared food to take home and eat at your leisure (broths, lasagne etc). They have a tasty range of pies, tortillas and frittatas to eat on the spot, together with ultra fresh and flavoursome salads. Also freshly baked croissants, rhubarb and custard scones, scrumptious apple pie ... Definitely worth an expedition!
The coffee and matcha are lovely, and I had a salmon toast that was perfect, with store made grains and nuts bread! The croissants were large and fluffy, we had the plain and the almond. The English muffin breakfast sandwich was delicious. The service was friendly and fast, while they were quite busy. Our large group sat at the only large table, but there is planty of seating inside. They havebread, milk, a few wines, and pottery for sale. Highly recommend!
Fun experience in the pasta making class!! Somewhat felt like the class could have had less people to make it more like chef didn't have to walk around to different sections of the table. Other than that though super fun! Recommend.
Unreal food selection, everything is delicious. Coffee is consistently perfect, the most consistently good coffee in Wellington. We love this this place!
Such a cool, quirky cafe. Vegan treats and good coffee.
Really good food made with high quality ingredients. Great place to go for lunch with three different sitting areas to suit whatever the weather. The food is on the pricey side but you always feel like you got your money's worth. The staff are also very friendly and happy to help.
Great coffee and chilled place to take the pooch. However there is always an attitude.. “should we be hipsters in Bondi attitude” Ask recently could they turn the tunes down during coffee with a friend, the response was not what you would expect when you are a customer paying for the ambience. Have they ever wondered why most people sit outside. It’s not a pub it’s a daytime cafe.
Amazing decor with super friendly staff. The coffee and food were great with good variety of goodies.

Best cabinet food ever and amazing coffee and service. Sometimes busy but that only proves how good it is
An interesting range of food. Quite tasty and filling. Coffee is good. Service friendly. It's become one of our Sunday destinations.
I love this place. Everything they bake is so silky smooth and full of flavour. Also definitely a contender for best pie in Wellington with their beef and blue cheese. Delicious!
Delicious food, friendly service and a few different cool areas to sit and eat 😊
Good vibes, good food.
Can’t really ask for more can ya
great funky cafe, fresh food choice and original decor. had the breakfast pizza 🍕 which was delicious.
Lovely lovely find! A wee gem of a café if you are wanting a quiet place to meet a friend or two, or just sit and enjoy your own company!
The lasagna here is insanely delicious. The vibe and music is so good to start a morning. Staff is very friend 💜💜
Great coffee the staff are friendly and fun. The carrot cake well just take a look best in Wellington!!!
I stopped going here as the service was always a bit patronizing. However, there is a great crew on these days and as usual the food is incredible. Great coffee too. Always nice to meet the friendly randoms that walk past also. Excellent chilled out location.
Great little spot but spoiled a bit on my last visit by staffing issues and take away only. I'm sure just a glitch and staff needing to leave early. Very tasty food and funky setting when visited previously over the years.
