We went to this place before the test rugby match. The food was great. The service was a bit slow but that is probably due to the restaurant being busy before the rugby. My son had the margarita pizza and I had the chicken dish. The were both very nice. We will be back.
Family birthday, 10 of us. Great atmosphere and decor here. Open kitchen.
I’m vegan and was advised to go wheat free last week (I’m crushed by it is what it is).
There isn’t much that caters for these on the menu but the staff and kitchen catered to my needs.
We adjusted a couple of dishes. For starter I had the egg plant stack, and for main the gnocchi with a tomato sauce.
Both were very enjoyable. The egg plant stack was a great dish. All the elements complimented each other and it was flavoursome.
The gnocchi was tasty, fresh and filling.
Our waiter was patient, helpful and friendly, catering and considerate to the whole table.
I would definitely go back.
Great food, had the mushrooms (Funghi Trifolati), and the Veal (Scalppino de Vittelo), also the tiramisu and the lava cake was excellent! Very satisfied with the meal and sure was fine dining that didn't disappoint!
The food is to die for. Bravo the chef. We ate and drank all night. The entree is stunning. The duck was beautiful. Eat here any time. Congratulations. Bravo.
Lovely Italian restaurant.
Went on a midweek evening for dinner and it was surprisingly full so I would definitely recommend booking to ensure you get a nice table.
Food was great, especially the starters, plus the option for BYO is very handy.
Will definitely be back.
Very warm setting! Tasty food! Definitely going back for more. Highly recommended! Even look like family restaurant, but the presentation of our dish was stunning. The stuff was very friendly! Our kids loved their pasta and pizza!
The nice juicy rib eye steak served here with porta bella mushroom and in red wine jus was "the best" l had in years!!
My five fellow diners also enjoyed their respective meals.
We visited the restaurant again two nights ago and again food was of an equally high standard. But this time the chef was Fay. She and her kitchen team cooked us a beautiful chicken thigh encrusted with rosemary and mushroom dinner...... Which could not be faulted.
Molly our table waitress was excellent and looked after us well all evening.
We look forward to dining here again sometime soon.
Came here for a date night on a Friday. Place was very busy and had a nice friendly atmosphere , Waitress was Italian and lovely. I had the seafood pasta and was beautiful, good size portion and generous amounts of seafood in it. other main was a rib eye with blue cheese sauce. if you're a lover of blue cheese this sauce is amazing, uses proper Italian blue cheese in it had a BOGOF from the entertainment book, so 2 mains and 2 drinks each and bill was 86
Once again an amazing Italian experience; great ambience coupled with great food and service. We dined with our kids and friends, portions fab and flavors that exploded. One recommendation would be to use fresh buffalo mozzarella in the caprese salad, but other than that 10/10 😊
Lovely small restaurant. Food was so tastey and fresh. We had pizzas and it definitely got up there of the best ones we have ever had. Beautiful.
I'll be coming back here! A very enjoyable meal, entrées, mains and desert were all very flavorsome, well presented, generous and thoroughly enjoyable. The service was great, very friendly and helpful with some clarification on some of the dishes on the menu. The wine selection was also excellent and the converted house made the surrounds interesting. A winner in my book, nice enough for a romantic meal or to impress visitors from out of town, without being snobby or pretentious.
This has to be the best Italian in town. The food was amazing, fresh, homemade pasta with great flavours. The service was spot on. The waitress took time to explain the menu, kept an eye on the table all night but did not fuss around as some do.
Highly recommend for an evening out with friends.
Love the food and the service, the variety and quality of the dishes are outstanding.
Our children enjoy the kids menu
The wine menu compliments the meals welll
Highly recommend eating here
I dined here with some friends from out of town and experienced great service. The waiter kept topping up our drinks and kindly explained mains on the menu. I had the fish of the day which was cooked beautifully. Those that had pasta dishes thoroughly enjoyed them. I had the Profiteroles for dessert whilst my friends had the tiramisu. I wished I opted for the tiramisu as the profiteroles were hard and dry. A disappointing end to a great meal but enjoyed dining here nonetheless.
I heard nice things about this place so my expectations were quite high. We went for dinner here, the place is really cozy and cute.
We ordered Gamberoni imperiali which is tiger prawns wrapped with crispy pasta in tomato sauce. This was nice but I wouldn't say it was something I would die for! Then we order zucchini pizza which was pretty average and also had some salmon risotto which I would say was the best out of the lot! we ended the meal with Profiteroles which was nice.
Not sure if it was my high expectation or an average delivery from the place I wasn't as satisfied as I would like to be. So would rate the place 3.5. And so my quest for a good Italian restaurant continues..
Been a few times and had a really enjoyable meal each time. Good selection of pasta and pizza plus the service is always attentive.
Great value as they are in the entertainment book plus byo, so makes it really good for a quick meal after work.
One downside is the restaurant gets really hot when they have the heaters on and is nearly unbearable, had to go outside for fresh air and cool down!!
Warm atmosphere and tasty pizza. Enjoyed the rustic atmosphere in Nostra with their tasty pizzas. Nice to also have drinks from Sprig and Fern next door.
Cosa Nostra is authentic, delicious, cosy, and absolutely one of our faves! They know how to do Italian well and have copious amount of chilli garlic oil and parmesan available!
Warm, cosy environment with friendly staff. Clams were amazing, cannelloni brilliant. Definitely will go again and try the Issas they looked greT and also the beef ragout.
My first visit to Cosa Nostra and I couldn't fault it. The atmosphere is cosy with a real Italian feel. The food was to die for. We shared desserts so I got to taste a couple and the Tiramisu and Chocolate Brownie were delicious.
Had dinner at Cosa Nostra for the fourth time this week! When visiting Wellington, I stay at The Shepherd's Arms over the road and just love the food at Cosa Nostra. Had the mushroom entree' again - delightful. The veal is to die for! These people must have a source of fabulous veal and know how to cook it properly! My "must eat at" place in Wellington. Service always excellent - attentive but not pushy!
Service: Warm greeting to a waiting table for four which was pre-booked and luckily too as it didn't take long for the Restaurant to fill up on a Thursday night. Initially we were sat in a nice spot near the bar/counter but I noticed there was a spare table in the Garden area which seemed to be reserved; as timing allowed, we were kindly moved to this even nicer spot with no fuss.
Food: Delicious. My wife is a person who follows a vegetarian diet with the exception of fish and all other sea foods and she was not limited at all for choice as Cosa Nostra provided several vegetarian pasta, risotto, pizza, GF and seafood options. The rest of us had chicken, pizza, pasta and all was enjoyed. My Chicken was particularly amazing and cooked perfectly in my opinion.
Atmosphere: Rustic and clean, Italian music in the background; the indoor/outdoor garden area was a fantastic place to sit. The main seating area is nice too and if you got a seat by the window its a good place to sit and people watch out the window. Stylish but not pretentious, it was a great environment to trade stories, drink good wine and enjoy a delicious meal.
Very very impressed with this restaurant! Amazing service and amazing food! Over all my favourite restaurant in a long time! Has a great vibe and atmosphere. Will definitely be returning and taking people there!
Me and my partner have been going there for about a year now and every time we go there it has been a great experience. A-plus atmosphere, great service and really good food. We will be going back as often as possible!!
Wonderful from the moment you walked inside. Service was great, food was great. We went on a Sunday for my husband's birthday the next day. We were waited on straight away and we enjoyed lovely garlic breads as starters, the wait for the main was just right, (veal in Marsala for me and chicken for my husband and we both thoroughly enjoyed our meals. For dessert I couldn't resist the Tiramisu and my hubby had the lemon tart. The lovely staff brought his dessert out with a candle which was just lovely. So compliments to Jane and her lovely staff.
I was also impressed at how busy it was for a Sunday night.
If U love Italian and good service you must go here.
Always come here for special occasions like our birthdays because we know they consistently deliver some of the best Italian food in Wellington. The Spaghetti Marinara is divine and flavourful. The risotto is also delicious, as are their starters. Loved the tiramisu. Will keep coming back :)
Stayed in Wellington for a break weekend in Thorndon at the Shepherds Arms. Cosa Nostra was across the road and humming the night before so we thought that's for us.
We booked for 7.30 and it was already full. Lively, loud and lots of character. Staff were on to us very quickly but not pushy. I got the mussels and my partner got the steak. Both were divine...seriously! And I know two things for sure.
One is we'll be back to Wellington and the other is we'll be booking a table at Cosa Nostra not long after.
I'm lucky enough to live close to this place. Have never actually eaten in it but have ordered Pizzas for take away. Lovely! (and the atmosphere in the restaurant always feels nice when I'm there)...staff also seem great!
A big group of us dined here a few weeks ago. Perfect setting for a large group, great food and excellent, friendly service. Thanks so much.
Great restaurant - food was tasty, well presented and good size. Plenty to choose from, we had six different dishes and all were great. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Desserts were a treat. Atmosphere was just like the real family style Italian restaurant in Italy. Definitely worth going to.
We went to Cosa Nostra last night, the mussels entree was fantastic, and my ravioli was excellent. Great service, great food, great wine.
Will be back
A friend got one of those online deals for four, which included 3 courses and a bottle of wine.
We ended up getting a very yummy platter to share, and my absolute favorite, rice balls! I ordered gnocchi for a main, which is not my normal first choice as usually quite stodgy ... These were not, it was divine. Although the sauce was very rich so did not finish. No complaints though.
Wine was drinkable too! All in all a good night, and a great deal!
We went here as a group of 4 on a voucher and loved it, the only complaint was order carefully .. you wont be able to eat it all !
I'm looking forward to going back again but this time more restrictive on the menu choices so I can enjoy more without feeling too full.
Service and menu is good, and price point very good for the food & drinks.
Went here with a deal site voucher. Often (at other places) this leads to a feeling of "not the regular customers" but we didn't receive that attitude here. We had the choice of the whole menu and the experience was great. They wound up being fairly busy for a small place. Food was beautiful and no doubt to the authenticity of the food. I recommend trying them out.
I'm charmed. Cosy and busy on a winter's Saturday night. The young waitresses looked like they'd rested all day and were delighted to be serving us. The tortellini of the day (in marsala sauce) was completely delicious. The only thing I didn't like was the size of the chocolate torta: it was enormous & rather stodgy. My companion loved his tiramisu, though. Maybe I was just too full to be eating chocolate cake!
When I mentioned to Giorgio, the owner, that on the menu the torta was advertised as coming with icecream (never too full to eat icecream) and came with a small dollop of cream instead, he said 'Silly buggers, I go see', and came back to our table with two scoops of icecream for me.
I can't wait to go back.
Update: went back last night (Sept 2010); Giorgio not there, a few tables empty, vibe not quite the same. My cheesy pizza pretty good, but partner thought that the canelloni wasn't too terrific, tomato sauce tasted too much of tinned tomatoes, he said. Will probably wait a while now before returning.
The food here is good without being too expensive, the atmosphere is nice, the staff are friendly, they are BYO but they have a good wine selection and they have Quilmes beer. The owner is a funny, family man.
I have been on a number for occasions and always had a good night out and good food.
What a fabulous restaurant. Came accross it by accident. They catered for the needs of everybody in the party including the children. We had a wonderful time and the food was fantastic. They are a friendly bunch and we thoroughly enjoyed the evening and would recommend this restaurant to anybody.
This is another go to favourite in Wellington.
Go for the mussels (a few other chefs could take guidance on how to cook mussels to perfection from this chef), go for the mushroom entrée.
The pizzas are also really tasty. They also sell craft beers from a local bar. Nice touch.
The team at Cosa Nostra are always friendly, smiley and make you feel like you are their most important customer.
I've always loved this restaurant, the location and the food, whether it be with my partner or with the family. Love listening to the old guy playing the accordion at the entrance. I had the salmon and zucchini pasta, which I wasn't blown away with. Thought it strange having big chunks of zucchini in pasta. The garlic pizza bread was yum and my friend had the beef pasta, which she enjoyed. The desserts were nice too, but not wow. The waitering staff were friendly but you could tell it wasn't their usual job. Then we found out the restaurant is closing. I was very surprised and saddened as it's my favourite Italian restaurant in Welington.
Awesome ambience, great friendly staff, and awesome attentive service. Our food choices though fell short of expectations. My carbonara was drier than I wanted and the seasonal veggies were a little over cooked. The kids meals were great for our little ones and they certainly enjoyed them.
Highly recommended Italian restaurant with enjoyable tasty Italian food served here. The rib eye steak in blue cheese sauce was great!! So was the service by Jason our waiter!! 😋 😋
Came here last time I was in wellington and it was so good I had to come back. Ordered the same thing too! Lamb was delicious and my friend loved the veal. The chocolate sauce pudding was amazing!
First Visit:
The pasta carbonara was amazing. Delicious entrees and desert too.
Love the vibe and will be back.
Second visit:
The Quattro Formage pizza had a small salad out top which was disappointing and not very Italian. I don’t know if I can trust their pizzas after this.
Still loved the vibe though, and the tiramisu was delicious.
Third visit:
Coming soon
Tasty food, the seafood was really fresh and beautifully cooked. Calamari and Saffron risotto were delicious
Lovely food, friendly staff, interesting drinks menu and a nice cozy ambiance.
Awesome Italian food & experience. Great staff & often have a guy at the entrance playing the Italian piano accordion to add to the authentic feel. Always a good vibe, welcoming & attentive staff with great tasting food. The specials board usually has some gems on it too. Our go to Italian restaurant for a romantic night for 2, or a gathering of friends. Thoroughly recommended!
Husband and I went on a Sunday evening a few weeks ago. The amazing staff got us a table by the window. Absolutely delicious pasta and dessert. Staff were friendly and even laughed at my husbands diabolical jokes. Great evening and we will be back!
Four of us had dinner there last night. We have been there several times in the past. The meals & service were once again excellent and the pricing, given the quality of food & wine, was very fair in my opinion. We will certainly continue to go there. The lovely piano accordionist gentleman providing live music certainly added to the experience. Thank you.
We shouldn't be so lucky, rinsing away the week, imbibing clean with Toscana, shovelling repartee at one another.
Briano, amen you sweet man! Drowning our dead thoughts with sweet melodies caressed to life in your agile fingers.
Sophie, the matriarch. Jason, all etiquette and occasional jibe. Taylor, a sweet angel.
Who knows what wizards operate in the kitchen, who knows what witch doctory is afoot, what sacrifices are made to produce such delicate feasts.
Mi amor.
We recently went here for a family birthday celebration and I honestly couldn't fault it! Service was impeccable from the moment we arrived and were greeted at the door, the food was wonderful and very authentic, and the accordian player in the courtyard who played Twinkle Twinkle to my enamoured 3 year old was the cherry on top! A fantastic restaurant that the whole family loved, will definitely be back!
Good food and great environment. The man playing italian songs is great!
Great food, staff and atmosphere! food came out flawless and on time, the specials were delicious and we left with a smile on our faces. 9/10 would recommend
We had a great meal last night. When we eat out we normally don't do three courses but the entrees and mains were so good we got dessert as well. All the food had great flavour and was also presented well. They have a good selection of local and international beer.
The service was top notch.
