Decided to support the locals and visit Park Kitchen (@parkkitchenmiramar) to get some Sunday lunch.
Cheese & Onion Scone $5 🧀🧅
Me and the old man really enjoyed the scone a lot 🙃. Good portion size and the scone was soft and fluffy, making it enjoyable to bite into. Flavours were on point, we could really taste the cheese/onion 🧀🧄from start to finish.
Buttermilk Chicken with Mash Potatoes $19 🐓🥔
The main was a mixed bag for me. I was expecting to get strips/cuts of buttermilk fried chicken breasts or tenderloins with pickles like you would normally expect in the dish.
Enjoyed the mashed potato 🥔 and gravy as it was soft and had a nice, creamy texture to it🥛🧈. The chicken leg was a letdown. Although the meat was cooked well on the inside, the buttermilk batter made the chicken look and taste a bit too dry for my liking.
Tiramisu Muffin $5🧁
We enjoyed the muffin as it delivered a strong taste of coffee, a hint from the muffin and then the extra kick with the coffee beans. Liked the creaminess of the sweet cream topping. Great job 👍🏽 on the sweet treat.
Final Words
Overall, I was happy with my experience at The Park Kitchen. Despite the letdown from the main, I will visit again to try out the Korean Chicken Burger + another muffin 🧁 or coffee ☕️ to go.
Nice atmosphere :) friendly staff and good service. The croissant was great.
During a weekend in Wellington, our hosts suggested PK for an evening meal. After consulting Zomato I was apprehensive because of the average review score and recent comments. I am very pleased to say that any concern was quickly swept away by what was a completely enjoyable eating experience for our party of five. A smallish yet interesting menu with attentive staff who detailed the specials. Prompt service and delicious food. Satisfaction all round!
When we entered the retra we had a mix feeling looking at their menu, prices and kitchen however thought to give it a try! The menu is short but the food is good.Mushroom pizza, rissoto, pork belly were quite well prepared. Service is fine and not slow or quick. Ambience is nice and outdoor seating is bonus.
Let's describe Park Kitchen in one word. RESERVED.
Popped in at about 9.30am on a Sunday morning to a sea of reserved signs and tables already filled with early birds ready to catch the Park Kitchen worm.
Where to begin.
The staff are lovely. The manager was able to accommodate us on a table for two, letting us know that it was booked in an hour. Fine by us!
Coffee. Havana. How can you go wrong? Well, you can't. My LB was strong, smooth and perfect. I could have had a second but shouldn't be greedy...
The menu is great. Simple and sophisticated all rolled in one. Yes, that is probably an oxymoron but I can't think of a better way to describe it. See for yourself.
The atmosphere and furnishings are also.... well... simple and sophisticated. It's like being in a funky lounge/dining area in a friends house. You feel jealous that you dont have half the cool furniture and fittings and wonder where they got it. Probably not Kmart.
Food. My Vege Big Brekkie was amazing. Everything was cooked to perfection. The hashbrown is the hero with the halloumi, eggs and mushroom all playing great support roles.
If I could give this place a 5++ I would. I'll be back.
Staff are extremely friendly, atmosphere is extremely nice, music not too loud, and the food is oh so good. Plus a chocolate fish with my coffee is a bonus.
I am truly surprised on why other reviewers are not giving this restaurant a higher rating. I love this place and so do the rest of my family. The food is delicious and service is great. I recommend the lamb cutlets dish and market fish dish. We will definitely come back here again.
First visit here for Dinner with my partners family, and I totally enjoyed it! I had the spatchcock, 3 ordered the pork schnitzel, 1 had the burger and my partner ordered the pizza. One pork main was still a bit raw, the staff were really good about it offering extras but we were okay as the overall experience was great.
Park Kitchen, opposite The Roxy Cinema in Miramar, touts itself as a neighbourhood eatery and bar. Its standard must reflect Miramar’s status as the heart of ‘Wellywood’, as a lot of money would have been poured into the design and furnishing. The lightness of the walls an the use of pale wood reminds me of another popular establishment on Cuba Street in Wellington – Loretta’s.
Came here for brunch. The Salmon Gravlax with cold-smoked salmon was fannnnntastic.
The crepes were less so, but still very tasty.
Also the coffees are very nicely done.
Recommended by a work colleague as a good place in Miramar. Easily missed, we drove past it. Big, modern space. We arrived at 5:15pm on a Friday and it was quiet with only a couple of other tables occupied. But that changed very quickly and within half an hour it was filling up.
They run a happy hour which was cool. I ordered a pint of tuatara pilsner $7 and my partner a preseco $7.
Varied menu. I ordered the chicken schnitzel and my partner this burger. Meals arrived within 15 minutes.
The schnitzel came with truffle potatoes and chipotle slaw. I enjoyed this dish overall but I felt there was a little something missing. The potatoes were a little floury and were seasoned a bit less than I would have preferred but they were good. The slaw was fresh, crisp and plentiful. Subtle flavour. The seasoning on the chicken; I couldn't make my mind up about it. My partner liked it.
The burger was delicious. Medium beef, soft, sweet brioche bun. The salad was on the side so you could add what you wanted and a nice sized portion of fries. Very satisfying.
Friendly staff, quick service. Reasonably priced. All up $58.50. Will definitely return.
Been just recently there for a dinner with friends. Quite nice food, well presented. It's a busy place, but service is quick and attentive.
Port belly meal was delicious.
We went last night at one of the kids eat free deals. Our mains of short rib and pork belly both hit the spot augmented by a trio of great sides with the squash the standout. They have a good wine list and around 30 different beers so good selection. The kids liked their fish and chips and service was nice so will be going back soon.
This is my local so of course I'm going to say good things! But in all honesty, I have been here countless times for breakfast, lunch and dinner and it never fails me. The food is modest yet delicious. It's well priced and it has a fab atmosphere. My personal fav would have to be the vege big breakfast add salmon (especially after a few too many pilsners the night before haha). Also their new spring menu is awesome! A solid go to if you find yourself in Miramar
In my opinion Wellington is the culinary capital of NZ! Every meal we have had (and we have eaten out big time!) has been so good.
On our way home from Weta Workshop we stopped off to see the Roxy Theatre and we discovered this cafe across the road.
Just felt like a simple lunch so chose Ham off the Bone and cheese toasted sandwich. The bread was thick and crunchy on the outside, the filling oozing with flavour. Loved the tub of chips - crunchy on outside and soft and hot on the inside.
Really nice suburban spot. The interior is lovely and the sheltered outside courtyard was lovely to sit in on a sunny day.
Food wise I enjoyed the prawn po'boy and my wife her Caesar Salad.
The 10 year old boys shared a margherita pizza which was demolished but they did declare it a bit odd (not your traditional/simple margherita)
Well worth a visit if you're in the area.
Really enjoyed our evening here! Food was great - had muscles as a main. Service was attentive. Music was fab! Very cool place, would recommend!
This place has been fitted out really well and looks great inside. There is a lot of space with a really nice outside area that I imagine would be great on hot summer days / nights. The meal I chose was pleasant and tasty though nothing out of the ordinary. My mum however had a selection of their small plates which she said were all excellent. For the quality of the food, the prices were very reasonable. I can definitely see myself going back!
Not a bad place. Went for Brunch and ordered the PK Breakfast. Was surprised that nothing was actually prepared on site except for the eggs and maybe the hollandaise sauce. Everything else was just cooked there. No house made hash brown, bread or chutney. Pretty sad I think.
Coffee is good though and great to see Havana Coffee being represented in Miramar.
More details at my blog google; chairmanblau and search for Park Kitchen
Opposite Roxy and mr bun, the park kitchen contrasts incredibly with its surroundings. Walking through the door is like walking into a completely different time and place - it's too good in some ways - and yes, I know its clientele are likely to have been responsible for turning a brilliant novel into a piece of turgid popcorn, but still, it was unexpected. David Burton seemed equally confused as to the restaurant's intent in his excellent newspaper review.
The fit out is very classy and likely expensive - polished concrete floors, pale ply panels on the walls, Scandinavian modern, especially in the the adjoining lounge area for those just having coffee or sitting with laptops. There is a bar, and an outside area that is possibly protected from the prevailing.
We went for Sunday brunch, about 9.30, it was still reasonably empty but starting to get busier. It's such a big place that I should imagine that getting a table wouldn't involve a long wait.
Nicely uniformed staff were incredibly helpful and attentive.
The menu for brunch comprised a single sheet with drinks on one side and food on the other. The dinner menu has the same basic layout. On both I found my eye skidding over the contents, finding it difficult to settle on anything, the designer had decided to use a lower case sans serif throughout with no capitals or bold - it left me struggling to quickly identify main components of dishes. The drinks side had this sorted however.
We ordered a trim cap and a flat white - secreted from a three group La marzocco? both were good, well made and correctly textured.
We had:
Banana bread and mascarpone: dark brown, wonderfully moist bread studded with walnuts and shrivelled grapes, chewy, dense, sweet. To the side a quenelle of espresso mascarpone with half a dozen spiced walnuts - very pleasant and interesting.
Poached eggs on toast with bacon and black pudding: well cooked (but not a second more) eggs on good bread that had been thankfully buttered (I hate being given eggs on dry toast) and the eggs garnished with rocket (I hate even more being given unadorned dry looking poached egg sitting on dry toast). The black pudding was excellent and the three thick pieces of glistening bacon were also good.
A second pair of coffees were not so good - the Marzocco this time was possibly being driven by a learner driver.
Overall an interesting place to try out - I was impressed by the fit out and staff, and the food that we had could be recommended.
When I heard that a new cafe had opened in Miramar, and knowing how good cafes in the Eastern Suburbs are, I simply had to go and check it out. I like the atmosphere and decor of this cafe and the friendly service. However, I wasn’t so impressed by the food, and hope that improvements will be made over the coming months, as this cafe has awesome potential. I ordered the beef burger which came with salad and fries. I found the burger average. It was nice but nothing amazing and I have definitely had better. My friend ordered her steak medium-rare and it was more like medium-well in some parts and well in other parts. These are simple dishes that could be amazing if done right, but unfortunately they fell short. I expect good things to come but I’m not in a rush to go back just yet. There is a really nice courtyard at the back of this place so I imagine it will grow in popularity over the summer months.
The food was great, reasonably priced and service was prompt. The staff were lovely and friendly without being in our faces. On arrival, when we asked about the parking on the street because we wanted to keep an eye on our dog outside, the staff showed us around the back to an amazing covered outdoor courtyard which was cosy and comfortable and dog-friendly! We’ll definitely come back - a firm favorite restaurant now!
Hash cake with poached egg, added smoked fish. It was good. Soup was a miss today which is a shame as it was so good last time. Fantastic indoor out door area.
Amazing! Food, coffee, service, atmosphere. Highly recommend visiting and have a good selection of vegetarian dishes or options to make a dish vegetarian.
One of Miramars hidden gems.
I was in a hurry but will definitely return for a longer meal.
The milkshake looked amazing and tasted great.
Highly recommended.
I went to pk with my brother and our kids and it was an absolute delight. I was served by Olivia and she was one of the best servers I’ve EVER met. 10/10 would recommend yum food great staff!!
New menu! Lots of vegetarian/vegan options.
Great service and breezy, fun vibe :-)
Overall we love Park Kitchen. It can be hit and miss at times, but overall a good experience with nice staff. Their mushroom truffle pizza is amazing and worth getting every time. I had the whole flounder tonight and it was so fresh tasting, lovely citrus flavors and well seasoned. It was one of the best whole flounders that I have had out in Wellington and I highly recommend it. The Mr. had a burger, and it was ok is what he said.
We had such a good experience here. The food was delicious, we had the squid, fried cauli, scotch fillet and the risotto with the choc tart to go as we were stuffed from the meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful! We will definitely return when we are next in Wellington!! Thanks Park kitchen 😁
Not bad atmosphere, food is not bad but it would’ve been better if staffs greet us with smile.
Been here a few times, and love it. Cater well to kids in general, adult food is great. Had an amazing steak here last weekend. Steak was very flavoursome and well cooked. Perhaps a bit light on the gnocchi that came with it. Would probably want to add a side if not getting desert. Kids burger was great but very frugal fish with the kids fish n chips. Desert cheese cake was divine. Great miramar option.
Breakfast elevated! I had the PK Hash with mushrooms and spinach. A poached egg and hollandaise sauce served on a potato biscuit on a bed of mushrooms and spinach. Divine!
Good food. Home made cider. The Pizza we had tasted great but was a bit cold. Mondays 2 for 1 Pizza. Everyday a different special. The burger deal sounds to be a good value as well.
confession of a regular. PK is another of our 'go to' choices for a meal out. The menu has recently changed and is full of new flavours to try. Thankfully some old favorites have remained (chicken liver pate).
Service is fantastic, our host now makes wine recomendations and these are spot on.
Of course we will dine here again, which in the end is the best recomendation.
Great outdoor area that dogs are allowed although with the roof over and fire on its was defo inside LOL
Service was great , food was good - only 1 of our group didn't fully enjoy their main but personal taste 🤷🏽♂️. Would recommend and cone aain
