I’ve been addicted to this place since my staff dinner last year 😍 but their chicken feet is what I come back for the most! Their recipe is mouth watering good 🤗
I’ve brought in friends and family several times this year already 🤓
For me it’s the best yum cha in Wellington 🤗
Definitely the best Yum Cha in the town! Love their chicken feet and prawn dumplings, which are so so so delicious with generous portion size. To my surprise, after our brunch I didn't feel very thirsty which I believe that they did not put too much salt or seasoning power in their dishes. Truly appreciate their service and good food. Will come again for sure.
love new fortuna. Have been a regular for the past 18 months and continue to enjoy eating there. yum cha is beautiful. main meals are delicious. we always get tentacles and rice rolls!! We pretty much get 8-10 dishes when ever we go. staff are amazing and very kind. place is kid friendly. decor is dated but it doesn't bother me at all. i recomend for anyone looking for great tasting place for the family.

Love love love New Fortuna, we have become regulars for the Yum Cha, it’s our go to place for any kind of celebration (or hang over). The dim sims, crispy squid, dumplings, duck, literally everything is incredible. Service is fantastic as well!
Been to yum cha twice and enjoyed it so much that I had to post a review - tiny bit more expensive than other yum cha places and no bowls just plates to eat from but yummy food and a definite place to return for yum cha whenever we're in Petone 😊
Myself and 14 of my workmates went for lunch here today for Yum Cha.
Service was fantastic and food was great. We all came out happy and with full bellies.
Would recommend to anyone and very good value for money.
We had Yum Cha here today and we were very impressed the food tasted Great. It didn't take long for our food to be served and the service was excellent very friendly staff would highly recommend Fortuna to everyone.
We had yum cha twice at New Fortuna and we enjoyed both times. It is good authentic Cantonese dim sum. We will try their dinner some day.
Excellent table service too.
Lovely Yum Cha! Their food and service was great; specifically their dimsums and their pork buns! The food was always served hot by friendly staff!
I love eating at this restaurant with my family. We always celebrate special occasions by dining in New Fortuna. Great food and service with nice and friendly staff :)
I had dinner here with a friend last night and it was amazing! The staff were lovely and even offered heaters to the tables! There were so many affordable options I was struggling to choose and everything we ordered was extremely tasty (loved the deep fried prawns!) My friend started with a pot of chinese tea which we shared and each time it was almost finished the waitress would top it up without us asking. Our plates were cleared regularly and fresh side plates, utensils and napkins given between courses. The service was so good that we didn't have to ask for a thing. We loved all the lanterns and fairy lights too but we both thought it would have improved the ambience if the main lights werent so bright. Will definitely be going back :)
We have been here a couple of times for family or group events. Value for money is pretty good and the food was nice and tasty! We will definitely be back again!
I had yum cha this afternoon for the first time and I was pleasently surprised, particularly given my previous bias and loyalty to yum cha at the storied Dragons restaurant in Tory Street. Whilst this wasn't dragons, what it was, was good! All of the dishes were generally great, they were served hot and with a smile. The pork buns and dimsums were excellent. In terms of yum cha, I'm glad we have an alternative to driving all the way to Wellington. I will definitely be returning again.
Went there a few months back for yum cha. Nice and relaxed atmosphere with great service. Enjoyed most of the yum cha delights especially the pork buns and sticky rice, but the steam rice rolls were a bit dry and tough. Still a good experience through and will definitely return.
Parents took me to this place for my birthday haha mate they told me a story about how I chocked on a fish bone here when I was younger well yeah it happend again food was great.
This place has turned into a lovely Yum Cha. We had lunch here and it was absolutely amazing, the food was great, and the service was amazing. The staff went beyond what was expected of them, and continually filled up our tea pot without us needing to ask. The food came out very quickly and whenever we wanted something extra (something the particular staff wasn't carrying) then they went promptly into the kitchen and brought it out for us. The food itself was filled with flavour and was reasonably priced. Compared to the other restaurants nearby staff were very generous with the tea, which is really nice. Very homely, clean and modern. Would no doubt be back again!
New Fortuna has got a new uplift after Top Jade's chef joined them last month. Now they have got chefs specialised in Cantonese(HK) cuisine as well as Schezwan. Based on my recent 3 dinners in last couple of weeks I have only got praise for them. The owners Paul and his partner make sure that every dish is prepared and served exactly how it should be. I would highly recommend this place if you are dinning in a group of 4 or more. They have got usual round tables found in Chinese restaurants to accommodate around 15 peoples on one table. The dishes which were highlights of my evening are Lamb cutlets in black pepper sauce, Fish in chilli oil and whole blue cod steamed.
“Great food, great prices, great service”,There are northern and southern China style food, i loved spicy food and seafood they cooked, also my Children loved all the tasty meat and beautiful vegetable dishes they cooked, everything we had was very delicious !Such are great place to eat, The best Chinese food i have found in NZ, Highly recommend to all .
I really like eating at New Fortuna restaurant.
Yummy, well priced food and great service. The last visit I also noticed some improvements in the decor.
Down sides..... chicken feet lol (but that's a person preference). They also seem to run out of coke zero fairly often.
Also, I wouldn't recommend you sit in the atrium area on a sunny day, it get's blimmin' hot! And the stairs are a bit steep, but I guess it's good to earn your meal.
Loved the steamed whole fish. Good authentic Chinese. Don't order anything on the menu that isn't Chinese. My partner order a steak and it wasn't much to write about. Open late night and friendly service.
Been here a few times with family and friends. Usually it's outstanding (5 star), but on this occasion we left a little disappointed. Usual dishes are, fish two ways, orange beef, braised egg plant. Everything seemed a little more oily and rushed than previously. It was a very crowded night and kitchen staff was under pressure maybe. The waiter did an excellent job and was patient and friendly with all customers. We'll be back one day.
A little hard to find, but well with the effort. We have eaten here on many an occasion for Yum Cha, and I will say it again, the food is wonderful and probably the best in the Hutt Valley.
We decided to try an evening meal here the other day, it was awesome Hong Kong style food.
A great menu to choose from. Well presented, good size dishes and served reasonably smartly.
The service is tops and they can never seem to do enough to help you enjoy your meal.
The whole atmosphere is pleasant, they continue to improve the decor, toilets are clean and the restaurant is very presentable.
I have read some of the negative reviews about this restaurant and find some of them quite "picky" and baseless really. We go out to enjoy the entire evening and not find fault with some poor person whom has just started work.
The owner is very approachable, if you have a problem talk with her.
We went for Yum Char today for lunch and the service was friendly, attentive and fast. Many offerings of different foods were brought to the table, maybe to fast to be honest. For 3 people the total cost was $60 which we felt was okay given the amount of dishes we tried.
This was our first visit to the New Fortuna and we had a wonderful meal! The food was all gorgeously presented, and since we had quite a large party, we also had many dishes. They were all delicious, some of the best Chinese food I've ever had! Service was great too. Will definitely be back!
We had an excellent meal to celebrate my mother's birthday. The food and the service was excellent. The food was full of flavour and freshly cooked. The staff were helpful and attentive. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at this restaurant and would recommend to anybody to pay a visit.
Tonight was the first time I have eaten at New Fortuna since it has been through a change of ownership. The dining area has been cleaned and brightened up considerably. The service was excellent and timely. Most importantly the food was amazeballs :) We had spring rolls and seichuan squid for starters, sweet and sour pork and sizzling hotplate with prawns, ginger and spring onion for the mains. It was flavoursome, fresh and cooked to perfection. Portions sizes were generous in keeping with the price. I have no qualms about recommending New Fortuna to anyone.
This the the former Pearl Restaurant. Under new ownership. We have eaten Yum Char here on numerous occasions, but never had the urge to write about it. Having spoken to the new owners who promised changes, and boy have they done what they said they would. The menu remains basically the same but the quality of food is now amazing.
I must admit that we are Yum Char fans and have eaten in most of the Wellington establishments. And the New Fortuna stands out for us as one of the best tasting Yum Char Restaurants around.
They are also changing the decor as they go.
The service was great, one of the stand out things with service for us as Kiwi's was that we were treated equally. A big plus.
My family and I went there last Saturday for Lunch. We had heaps of yum cha as my family is a big eater and love chinese food. We've been going around wellington and tried several chinese restaurants and so far this is the best.
Prices are reasonable and serving sizes are good.
Will be definitely coming back and had been telling friends about this place. Actually, we are coming back tonight together with a visiting family from Christchurch.
A friend and I had yum cha at Pearl last week.... and I'll definitely be going back.
Clean, nice surroundings, good selection, reasonable prices, pretty good service all round.
Only complaint, they didn't have coke zero :-)
I have been to this restaurant a number of times now, and the experience has been consistently excellent.
The food is served to a very high standard of quality and presentation. Service is not particularly formal - but more than adequate.
Prices are very good for what you get.
Best Chinese food in Petone, and in my opinion one of the best in the Wellington region.
Brilliant restaurant that needs more advertising. I discovered it by pure accident and I am so happy I did. Service was brilliant, the food was absolutely delicious and very generous portions too. The restaurant is clean and tidy. We had chicken wings, king prawns and spicy squid as a starter and stir fry noodles, fried rice with chicken, stir fry combo and beef orange (perfectly cooked). After dinner we got some fresh fruit and sweets which we didn't order and it was a very nice touch. My kids always like to try something new and they will say if they don't like something, well this is what they said "this place is the bestest".
this place is fantastic, even my partner loves the place better than his restaurant, we frequent at least once a month and have taken my work colleagues there for lunch, awesome service, lovely people, the food is just fantastic!!!
The restaurant is always clean and tidy, and is very comfortable, highly recommend to anyone wanting a nice meal, yum cha or outing and their prices are affordable
Went here for yum cha with my partner and it one of the best yumchas we have ever had - and trust me, we know a great yum cha when we have one! (and also a bad yum char - e.g. Grand Century Chinese Restaurant in Tory St. - do not go there !!).. Anyway this place is fantastic, it was very busy but they managed to squeeze us in and gave us great service. We also saw our friends here who go to yum cha every weekend. Pearl Restaurant had a huge selection of delectable food which tasted amazing and the Jasmin tea was beautiful. Will definitely be coming back here it was the highlight of our weekend!!
Great Service! Always went there for Yum Char and by far their portions are bigger and tastier.
We went there for the first time for dinner last weekend and even though it was a bit expensive the food quality was good!
I highly recommend anyone to go back there, sure people are going to complain that the service was crap and they didn't get their cutlery on time. Look at it this way no one is perfect..
Great place for Yum Char! People thought Good World was yum, this place has home made yum char! Nice pan fried dumplings, shrimp dumplings, custard tarts enough to make your mouth water. Only down side was the service was a bit slow but in the end the waitress got us a piece of paper to show what yum char dishes they had to for us to mark what we wanted then the food came out fast. Will be going here again as much as i can! They even had fried chicken wings!!!
Excellent place for a whole range of Asian dishes. The steamed whole fish, garlic boc choy and vegetable dishes are excellent.
It’s definitely our most favorite yum cha restaurant in Wellington. Food is always fresh and people are friendly we always order the fried string beans with pork, you cannot miss!!
Beautiful set up and amazing food! Four star instead of 5 because we had to wait 40min between placing the order and receiving the food. The kids were very hungry and upset by the time the food arrived. Service was good though. Staff were apologetic and helpful where they could help.
Very nice Chinese restaurant. Much better than the Dragon in city as easy to see even from the one star reviews from both. The Dragon 1star have a lot of Chinese reviewers, the New Fortuna none. This place may not be the best of the best, but it easily deserves 5 star: food is good, service eccellente, welcoming staff, good price... what else do you need?
Found this place randomly. Was on ways to clocktower bakery then seen a small door leading upstairs to this hidden gem. Full of people. Nice food, decent. Service not bad. Some of our food items we ordered off menu didn't turn up but didn't matter cos we were full from the trolley service. Would recommend. Generous price compared to other establishments around wellington.
First time here and really enjoyed it. Nicely presented menus and lots of choice. The food came out within a reasonable time and everything was delicious
great taste for Chinese Guangdong styles.
Authentic really yummy, tasty food. We went for dinner but yum cha here is fabulous too.
Went there for yum cha. Food was nice and it was great that you could choose the items you wanted off the menu. Service was excellent
Nice little restaurant with good decorative renovation. Food is also above average. Highly recommended
What doesn't Jackson Street have?
Features most of your favs, Har Gao, Shumai, etc.
I love YumCha and have eaten it in Hongkong and many places. I rate this restaraunt highly for taste, service, and price. It's definitely not the cheapest but the portions are huge. I've never actually seen DimSum that big before!😆
Place itself is a bit dated but who cares, the food is excellent. Second best place in Wellington but the other place is even more expensive so I always come here now😊👍
好吃. 巨大點心!😆👍
Delicious coriander prawn dumplings and custard tarts. Lovely staff
Wonderful food. Restaurant was busy but while staff was limited they were friendly and quick.
Had my sons birthday the other week was mentioned to be just a small occasion for out family the server's went out of their way for the kids making hot chips as I didn't see the option on the menu the sweetnsour pork was unlike any sweetnsour dosh I've ever had 💯💯💯💯
