Love this place. Did a dumpling cooking class here. It was fun, not to mention tasty. They use free range organic ingredients, which give their dumplings better flavour. They're more expensive, but well worth it. Even at food shows or in a food truck these taste good.
Tried these at Moore Wilson, they were yummy.
They were a tad on the high price at $2 EACH so if never have them on a regular basis but I'll have to admit, they are good.
Everyone knows these guys aren't where you go for a budget, fulfilling meal. However, the look, texture, taste and condiments served with these delicious morsels are almost worth the hefty price tag. At $2 a pop they are among the most expensive dumplings in Wellington but they are very very tasty. Come here if you want consistently good dumplings, but be warned. You are paying for it!
If you get a chance to hear Vicky Ha - Queen of Dumplings - herself talk about the product and where she got her inspiration for food and passion for using fresh, quality ingredients--take it! All of the dumplings were good, but my favourites were the Korean sesame beef and spiced Nepalese lamb. Luckily, you can stock up get a box of them frozen with that yummy Mum's sauce! Great alternative to other Chinese Takeaways
After reading all the good reviews about this place, we decide to pay a visit and buy their meal packs (5 dumplings, rice and salad). The food is not bad but I just a bit disappointed especially after reading all those good reviews.
Tried these dumplings at the night markets! ( fried ) hands down best dumplings i have ever had! so much flavour! Will come again :) thanks!

Within range of Wellington's early 19th century Chinatown, the dark timbered walls of this little dumpling house remind me of an old Chinese apothecary, although missing are the layers of dust and the star anise and cassia scent of five spice. Instead of the elderly Chinese gentleman weighing out his spices we see a young cook trying to replicate the perfect dumplings of her Asian childhood.
For two weekends in a row, dumplings from here have figured significantly - A week ago, on Sunday, at the outside chaffers market they warmed a blustery Wellington morning, and this last Saturday at a symposium of gastronomy, which chose for its feasting - Hillside, Cicio cacio, Prefab and the House of Dumplings.
The dumplings have a thick, beautifully al dente chewiness to their casings and the internal texturing comes from hand cut meat and vegetables. They exude a rich umami broth that, mingled with chilli oil, and coupled with the textural case with its flavourful filling provides the senses with pleasure demanding a second helping.
The range of fried or steamed dumplings is small and that's good - better for the passionate young dumpling maker to work at being a dumpling jiro (who dreamt of sushi) and move in the direction of perfection, than attempt to provide every ridiculous combination appealing to bored gastrofashionistas.
This is a very good little dumpling house - one of an uncommon breed of quality specialist food shops.
Recommended.
My partner and I have been meaning to try this place out for a while. So today we were passing by and decided to have a wee snack date.
Amanda, the lovely lady serving us, provided us with amazing service and we had all the excellent chats. After the great conversation (which I would most def come back for) we were served our food. I got a mixed salad, tofu skewer and steamed vege dumpling, all of which were delicious and obviously made with love. Vicky, the owner and founder, was also a great addition to an excellent experience- she informed us of all the flavor combination and I will most def be back to try to sweet dumplings.
The sort of place I could become a regular.. While it is a very small establishment, it still feels really homely and welcoming. It's not a place to go for a sit down meal, but at the same time what with it being so small it could give you some closeness with that special someone.
The quality of the food is phenomenal and they seem to stress the quality of ingredients through their menu and general ethos of a planet friendly environment. It is also something that shines through in their staffs advertisement of their food items. Staff who are also really friendly by the way. I was talked through what dumplings they had on offer and the ideal way to cook each one.
They even sell their own sauces.. Mums sauce!! Now I raved to all my friends about recently coming across Kecip manis (which they also had) but mums sauce rocked my world too. Their go to spicy soy sauce, that I enjoyed so much I purchased my own bottle to take home.
In summary, a real friendly and eco friendly environment with top quality food. However their 'meal deal' they had on was only five dumplings, rice and salad. So if you have a big appetite like me then maybe getting two I them is the way to go :)
Just. Fantastic. These are honestly the best dumplings I've ever had. The flavours are fresh and varied, the pastry/wrap not stodgy, and always beautifully cooked. The mums sauce accompaniment is beautifully flavoured and the kasundi that comes with the Nepalese beef option is fabulous. Sauces and frozen Dumplings can be bought for a take home option as well.
Absolutely AMAZING! I had the vegan dumplings (tofu and spinach as well as 5- mushroom) with rice and salad!! Friendly service and delicious dipping sauce!! Going back tomorrow for more!!
I first had these dumpling when I visited the Cuba Street night markets about three months ago and I was blown away.
I recently visited Wellington again for the Jazz Festival.
Cafe Pasha is an old favorite so we ate there the first night, then visited the night markets again.
It reconfirmed my positive memories. These are by far and wide the best dumplings I have EVER had.
The flavors are heavenly, the dough to filling ratio is perfect and they are served in cute little baskets that make me smile fondly just thinking about the whole experience.
Really cool little place with tasty fresh dumplings. Particularly like the sauces and the meal deal, where you can get 5 assorted dumplings, rice and a salad of your choosing along with sauce. Good value for money and friendly service. They also do a dumpling making class, which I have booked in for - cant wait!!
I nice place with a good feel. Eco friendly recycling bins and biodegradable knifes and forks. 10 Dumplings to choose from , steamed or fried, $2 each. Small area so not ideal to eat in when busy (eg lunch time on a sunny day). Not great parking in area. Located across road from Briscoes. Staff are friendly.
Delicious dumplings, you can really taste the natural and fresh ingredients. A cut-above any other dumplings you can buy from a supermarket. The sauces are fantastic too!
Tasted a chicken dumpling (delicious)at Farro and resignedly bought a pack each of the Edamame and Hemp and the Mushroom as my other half does not eat meat. Had the Edamame and Hemp dumplings for lunch today and they are very, very tasty. So easy to pull out of the freezer and cook from frozen. Will definitely purchase again.
Absolutely delicious dumplings. They are as yummy as they are beautiful. They use local ingredients, have their own chili oil, and offer vegetarian /vegan options! The Nepalese lamb is one of my favorites!
Great organisation doing it the proper kiwi way, biodegradable cardboard boxes, no MSG and always trying to seek the great natural ingredients found in NZ. I buy it from my local supermarket, frozen. A great thing to have in the freezer.
The reason why the price is a touch high is because they buy free range chicken and other natural ingredients.
Very very yummy dumplings and friendly staff. Maybe a bit on the expense side for dumplings though if you wanna eat them everyday, which this place will want you to. Nepalese Lamb is a fave.
I didnt get to actually visit the restaurant but I did stop by your stall at the A & P show in Christchurch. The minute you started talking about "Mums recipe" I had to try your dumplings. I then asked if you had chilli oil and again it was mums recipe and mums sauce. Couldn't fault a single thing and now love enjoying the sauces with my own cooking at home. I love that your using family recipes and even better local ingredients!
If I'm ever up your way i'll definitely be finding your house of dumplings.
It's a house.. That serves dumplings. Very tasty dumplings. You can pick and choose what dumplings you want, and how you want them cooked. Great sauces too. If they were fractionally cheaper I would visit more often.
Amazing dumplings - I'm a big fan of the Nepalese spiced lamb in particular. The dumpling skins are perfection and create the ideal ratio of skin to filling. No MSG!
Friendly service and good food. They really make it a point to make all feel welcomed. I'm very much a fan of this little treasure tucked away in Wellington.
Perfection!!! You must try them all
Delicious meal with a variety of dumplings for a good price. To be recommended.
Literally made of delicious, great dumplings
Absolutely delicious and a handy location (for me). Not much seating but it is a cozy spot to eat 😁
Excellent dumplings. Simple place and cozy inside.
Awesome that you use genuine free-range meat.
