I used to live just around the corner from this place and it was an absolute favourite of mine and my flatmates. The staff are super friendly and very helpful! The burgers they do are amazing and their fries i would go as far as to say they are the best fries in Wellington! Definitely miss the place now that i don't live so close!
During student life this was a great spot to visit. $10 eggs bene was a great morning hit and the ecletic mix of crockery was a nice tough. Very homely feel helped by the array of bakin on the counter. Lovely staff. Such a nice place if your on Webb st or wkthin the area
One of the best cafes in Wellington for a myriad of reasons. Great service - the staff are always interested, interesting and genuine. Amazing food - delicious and well portioned. Great coffee and warm welcoming, creative atmosphere.
Disclaimer - I know the owner Pete, he is amazing also!
Every time I go here I get loaded wedges with extra sour cream and every time it is beyond amazing. Coffee is a bit so so, kind of average but the food is great!
Big ups for service! Dropped in made a request for a cold coffee (Kyoto style) and the barrista was more than happy to serve it on ice! He even suggested maple syrup to which I agreed to. Zzzzzzing!!!!! I'm as happy as Larry and still wide awake 2 hours later. Will definitely return to check out the grub. Its very popular as the prices are student friendly. For those who are into gardening - they have bags of free grinds to take home. Waste not want not. That deserves a 5 from me!
Thanks for a wonderful pick me up Preservatorium!
Friendly staffs and tasty food is right here! This place has absolutely the best Egg Benedict in town. Angus beef burger is awesome too. Definitely would visit more!
One of my favourite cafes in Wellington.
Preservatorium Cafe is relaxing, vibrant and wholesome.
We had a Angus Beef Burger, a side of Pasta and Sunny Side Up eggs on Toasts with a side of Rosti.
Beef burger was hearty and flavoursome, the addition of beetroot on top of the melted cheese was divine and gave the burger a sweet edge.
Eggs didn't exactly come as instructed--the yolk wasn't runny enough. The toast redeemed it though, because it was buttery and moist. The rosti was hot and crunchy, an excellent side choice. I thought it was more of a hash brown rather than a pancake like a rosti should be, but that's purely picking on naming conventions.
We ordered a pasta on the side because of how beautiful and tasty it looked, the pasta was refreshing without being overbearing.
Showstopper: There are many delicious burgers around, but many come overpriced (cough burger liquor cough) or lacking in general quality. For $11 bucks you get a nice moist, flavoursome burger. Great value for a hearty burger.
Overall Grade: A-
This is a worthwhile cafe at the top of Cuba. Retro 1970s, eclectic, basic fitout, pleasant, but sufficiently odd to be of interest.
The name comes from the range of preserves that are sold. Not a large one - includes a range of jams, marmalade, relish and even home made baked beans.
We had breakfast at the weekend - trim cap coffee, beans on toast, and egg on toast.
Coffee very good, well made, good texturing and good flavour, unburnt.
Beans were very pleasant, good seasoning, well cooked, but I should have ordered a side of bacon to round it out. Bread/toast rather ordinary.
Eggs on toast, nicely presented, perfectly cooked egg - again, the bread was ordinary.
An interesting cafe, worth visiting - suggest trying the beans with bacon.
The atmosphere is really nice it is really cute and vintage on the inside and the outdoor seating arrangement is perfect on a sunny day. The food was quite nice, I ordered the frittata that was vegetarian and gluten free (was a little bit too oily though!) the highlight was the steak pie that all my friends ordered - the best pie I have tried in Wellington! The service was pretty alright. Would probably go back but not my first pick as the cabinet food and menu didn't have many options that I would choose.
Pretty nice food, really cool decor! Nice staff, would definitely go again
PS. AVOID THE STRAWBERRY MILKSHAKE. Have you ever felt the urge to have a literal mouthful of strawberry jam? No? Then this one is not for you.
In fact the milkshakes are bad in general, get the iced chocolate (fantastic)
Totally found this place by chance... But it's so cute! With retro decor straight from my granny's 70s lounge ;) I love it. Service was prompt and the coffee great. The ginger slice and Mega brownie were scrummy and served in the sweetest vintage China plates. I will definitely go again... And to buy some preserves for gifts and treats at home!
Food was so nice and so reasonably priced. The two dudes running the counter were very friendly. Glad it's open on a Saturday, will happily go again.
Service is great! Friendly and attentive. Love the fact that the water and glasses are in a fridge. Also loved that the bill was $20.10c and he said "$20 will do (who does that anymore?!). Went there for the Tuesday $5 special which is different every Tuesday and was a chicken wrap this week and was great value for the $5. Only downside is that is is very noisy due to having concrete ceilings and nothing to soften the noise so it is hard to talk.
You've got to try this place it's great.
Coffee's good, food's simple but tasty, the friendly service adds to the slightly retro decor.
Quaint old cups and plates...
I love it you will too.
I live across the street and they are so friendly. I usually go a few times a week when I wake up to get a coffee but today I had the mushrooms on toast. One of the best things I’ve ever eaten!
I’ve visited this cafe twice now and absolutely love it! The vibe is the best part. The cafe is decorated entirely with knickknacks and thrifted pieces, and the windows let in a lot of light. The service is decent, and there are food options ranging from snacks to full meals. Most recently, my partner and I ordered flat whites, a cheese/spinach scone, and a chicken/mushroom filo. The barista offered to toast the scone and add butter, which elevated it to delicious! The filo was also insanely yummy. We spent about $24. I’d highly recommend giving Preservatorium a try!
Me and my wife often visit here almost every weekend. Great coffee, food and service! Place has a great vibe with antiques scattered throughout giving it a cool Wellington feel ☺️
Favourite place to go get a scone as I’m being sent down there everyday to pick up for me and my friend. Great food! Highly recommend :)
Eclectic atmosphere in this quiet hangout just beyond the central business district of Wellington. I ordered the eggs Benedict with ham. Very good but read the menu wrong and thought it came with hash browns. Instead the eggs are served ON hash browns instead of a crumpet or English muffin.
Friendly staff and great food in a really comfy feeling room. The cannery breakfast has to be one of the best big breakfasts in all of Aotearoa, served with great Turkish bread. Strangely no payWave or ApplePay, just old school EFTPOS inserted or swiped. And possibly cash, whatever that is.
Very lovely cafe with retro decor and a relaxing environment. Flat white is smooth and strong and the brunch offerings are delicious. Highly recommended!
Enjoyed the surrounding and style. Felt like I was at Grandparents home for breakfast 😀. Good food.
Absolutely amazing! We had a delicious lunch here with work friends, such a lovely place. Thank you!
I adore this place. They have free wifi, and the ambience is lovely, which makes it a great working cafe in Wellington.
My cabinet favourite is the Steak and Mushroom pie, I reckon it's the best steak pie in Welly!
The cooked breakfasts are bloody good too. A hidden gem atop Cuba St 💛
I love the atmosphere here. The decoration is beautiful. $6 for a mocha and a warm chocolate muffin in Sat morning. Sweet!
Great food with reasonable prices.
I am a fiend for creamy mushrooms on toast and these guys served up one of the best I've had. Please never remove it from the menu. Only things that could've been better were that the food took a bit too long (20+ minutes) to come out for 2 people on a Thursday mid morning, and also the poached eggs which I added on to my dish were a little bit overcooked.
Nevertheless I will for sure be back for the mushrooms.
Great casual ambience. Plenty of seating options. Food is cafe typical and everything was perfectly cooked. Great coffee and friendly staff.
Gorgeous atmosphere with eclectic decor. Always something new to notice. Very nice food with decent portions for the price. The staff was all friendly and approachable
this place screams ambiance 🕶. Smells amazing like a coffee scratch and sniff sticker. The most scrumptious workers. Would like to rip my heart out and put in on the table as a tip. Family friendly and the kids menu will treat you broke students well. Prices for all. Will be back again to experience this carnival of a time. 🤹♀️🎪🎪🤽♂️👑💟💅. Enjoy (if you will) cowabunga
Mum & I needed to get out of the wind & found this wee gem of a place. Friendly helpful team, with delicious looking cabinet food as well as the menu to order from. We both had the Eggs Benedict one with Bacon one with Ham, equally delicious!!!! Also nabbed a slice of Ginger banana loaf to have later on with a cup of tea. Definitely recommend a visit to Preservatorium!
Best Eggs Benedict I have ever eaten! Great coffee.
