While travelling through New Zealand we first came across Little India in Palmerston North. We looked them up in Wellington and headed there for dinner.

Some of the best Indian food I have eaten outside India. We ordered Chole Bhature and Matar Paneer with Tandoori Rotis. The food was delicious though we found the quantity to be on the lesser side.

The staff was very friendly and courteous. Definitely the place for good Indian food.

Went to Little India last night with a group of friends. Had a chicken korma and naan bread. Best korma I’ve ever had. Manager was very professional and good service from staff. Will be going back.

Many years since I was last here but the place is still great, right down to the neat menus. Little India's curry selection is from the Punjab region in Northern India. I had the Lamb Dhansak with Jeera rice and I really enjoyed it! It was pretty mild for a "medium" spice dish but I expect it's toned down to cater for the Kiwi pallete! Excellent service too

Good food and great service, was there yesterday night .  Its been observed that the staff is new and  manager was strggling with them, yet he was smiling all the time.   The quality of the food remained same and the consistency is awesome.  5 out of 5 for food and service

The menu blurb provides an interesting potted history of the owners forebears, and conveys an image of a quasi-aristocratic military past coupled to the use of grandmother's recipes. Although at first these don't sound like likely bedfellows, given that the well to do had someone cook for them, its a nice story and one repeated in the 16 or so Little Indias throughout New Zealand. I have been to three and ordered delivery take-aways from one.

Of those in Wellington, I think the Blair Street is the best. For delivery orders my impression is that the Cuba mall seems to be the site of origin and I have never been impressed with those. For delivery I prefer flavours in Karori, but if able to pick up I'll pre-order at Blair Street and then pick up from there.

For sit down Indian in the CBD, I prefer Blair street Little India to other Indian restaurants. Great India is also excellent but I haven't been there for some time. Little India seems to attract many within the Indian community and that is a good sign.

The restaurant is spacious with seating upstairs and down. Upstairs by the window, overlooking Blair Street is very pleasant. The large space means that walk-in diners can usually be accommodated quickly.

Staff turnover is reasonably high and service can be variable, usually because of inexperience, very rarely because of attitude.

The menu is easily navigated. Many standard Indian restaurant dishes. I usually go for one of the entree platters - mixed platter is good, but so also is the tandoori platter and depending on group numbers you can order multiples of these. I usually ask to have the platter with the rest of the dishes, rather than as an entree - For the tandoori platter, I don't see that bogging into a pile of meat is a good start to a meal. In fact I think I prefer most of the entrees to be included as part of the main meal. The lamb dhansak is good and the suggested Jeera rice is a good accompaniment to that. Palak Paneer is a favourite, as is Daal Makhani. The side dish platter provides all the necessary accompaniments. Of the breads I tend to go for plain or garlic naan. The range of stuffed naans is large and occasionally I find these tempting but a little pointless in terms of being used to pick up and mop up curries - they tend to fall apart.

Dessert Gulab Jamun is interesting if you haven't had it before, but Mango Khulfi is the butter chicken of desserts - a cone shaped frozen mango lassi that is delicious. The pistachio version is also good but I think Mango has the edge.

My only suggestion is that if you're not onto your last couple of bucks, order something you haven't heard of - its too easy and tempting to order something that sounds familiar. There's nothing in the menu that's particularly exotic (it is a chain after all) and thats a pity, but exploring the unknown is worth as much as a dish.

I was going to add a comment about people who, in a group, routinely order only for themselves rather than being prepared to try and share dishes - I'll save that for another review.

A friend recommended we try little India and I'm pleased we did. We went early and it was quiet. The staff were friendly and helpful and gave suggestions when our friends ordered something they were out of.
I had the mild mango chicken which was full of flavour but not hot at all. I loved the chicken on the dish. It was very well marinated and well cooked. The naan bread was great. The garlic naan not too over powering and the plan had some flavour.
There probably wasn't enough rice for four people. A bigger or secondary bowl would have been good but we made do.
The food was served quickly and easily and I liked the whole Experience.

I would suggest a visit to anyone. They have plenty of space for big groups but also have booths available for smaller and more intimate parties.

Good Indian food at reasonable cost. Nice ambience and quality food. Sometimes the tastes are too much spice dependant than technique but as a whole they successfully touch the Indian hearts.

Hi. So this is my second visit to your restaurant and unfortunately it has deteriorated from my last visit. Firstly there was some sort of curry stain on the water jug which made me lose my appetite a little bit. You guys do wash the dishes, right?
I ordered the tandoori chicken which I was very much looking forward to, until I tasted it. Unfortunately it was quite dry and flavourless.
The plates were warm, which is a big plus! Congrats!!

My constructive feedback would be to cook the chicken for less time. Thanks.

Wow absolutely loved this place, I travelled down to Wellington to present my sons Taonga (21st gift) to him at this restaurant, and also got to meet his beautiful partner in crime, I had organised everything with the Manager weeks before hand, from the 2 little cupcakes representing their 21st cakes, seating, and holding the gift outback until dessert was served up. He exceeded what we had arranged, the food was filling and delicious, and priced accordingly which was great for my pocket. The staff were always on hand if we needed anything, and were always pleasant. A+ Little India for making the occasion even more special than it was xxx

I must admit, I am a very discerning customer when it comes to my Indian cuisine! As a native Indian that has lived in NZ for my entire life (+ someone that can't cook), I am reliant on Indian restaurants in Wellington for my 'fix'! It seems there are SO many nowadays & I have eaten at most, but I always return to Little India! Their cuisine reminds me of cooking from back home, with that 'real' taste and all the ingredients and spices I love! The food has a richness and 'hits the spot', without being overly creamy and sweet, as in some other restaurants. I can actually SEE the veggies in the curries, it's fresh - not just different coloured gravy soups! As a vegetarian, I feel the choice is great and I'm eating healthy, while still enjoying flavourful, rich cuisine! I especially recommend the paneer pakoras and mango lassi with mains! I always have a good time in the restaurant, whether with 1 or enjoying the food and good wine with a group of mates - the atmosphere is charged & the decor is not overly cheesy or too 'Indian themed'! I love the staff at Little India and the service is wonderful - they know my favourite dishes by now (malai kofta/matar paneer)! I have also had the pleasure of being shown the kitchen on 1 occasion (when I asked how they get the naan breads so light and fluffy but still crunchy) and got to give making a naan a go! I highly recommend Little India for an extremely satisfying Indian food experience (I often eat more than my stomach can handle, as my taste buds crave more) - you won't be disappointed! :) PS - I recommend the hot Gulub Jamans for desert with cold mango ice-cream - YUM YUM! TIP - when I got to go 'make my own naan' in the kitchen, it was the Owner that took me through - he has a shaved head, so be on the look out if you want a tour! ;)

I went to this Little India after eating in another of their restaurants, and it's good to see the quality runs across them all.

The food is great, you can tell it's fresh and been made with care, we had a table of 7 which the accommodated really well and let us share dishes.

The staff we're helpful and managed our big table perfectly.

If you are looking for a group dinner put this place on your list!

Little India has a huge variety of cuisine, and it can be catered to the level of spiciness on the spot. The restaurant has a wonderful ambiance, is quiet enough to carry on a conversation and a good selection of beer, wine or mixed drinks. The food is very tasty, I would definitely recommend it to anyone visiting and looking for a great curry.

They also have the same menu for take away or even home delivery. The food is fresh in all cases.

When visting Wellington in September last year I enjoyed two Little India restaurants at Blair Street and Cuba Street (smaller and cosy).

The Blair Street restaurant I rate very highly as it has a lovely ambience backed up by great service.

The food is outstanding as it is in all Little India restaurants I have enjoyed throughout the country.

The sporting memorabilia in the restaurant is an excellent feature.

I can thoroughly recommend the dining experience at Blair Street.

We love Little India, the food is great, my boys, 3 under five adore their butter chicken, and the restaurant is children friendly and are really accommodating.
We often drop into Blair street, as we find it the tastiest and more authentic Indian Food in Wellington.
Good for you Little India, we love your food!

Fantastic restaurant with amazing food and even better service. Relaxing atmosphere was also a huge positive. Recomend to anyone wanting a nice hassle free evening with quality food.

The location is also handy for out of town visitors. Have dined in a group of 12 and then again with only two and both times were just as I remembered.

Love this place! I enjoy Indian food and I can say that Little India, Blair St is the best Indian in Wellington. Staff are always really friendly and the food is great. I have have visited Little India about 5 times with my partner and a couple of times in larger groups, everyone really enjoyed the food and atmosphere. They are also BYO so this is a big plus. Each time I go I have tried something different and yet to be disappointed.

Excellent, some of the best curry in Wellington.

Always friendly service and excellent meal sizes. Great for large tables or smaller more intimate tables.

Only occasional problem is noise from the other bars on Blair Street. But that's usually not an issue for the times when most people eat

We had a work function here, where the boss said he'd shout anyone their meal if we ordered a hot vindaloo and finished it. I think he may have had a quiet word with the chef to make sure this was not an easy task. We had a great time, the staff were really friendly, and seemed to be having a good time themselves. The vindaloo was SUPER hot - but luckily I like my spicy food, so I managed to finish mine. Try a mango lassi on the side if you're having a hard time with the hot dishes. We thoroughly enjoyed our even, and I'll definitely go back for more!

This food is great for Indians and non! Whoever enjoys Indian food in its pure form. My major complain with Indian joints in Welly is they lose authenticity when trying to serve non Indian audience. But few places that manages the balance. Their chole. Is outstanding.

Great place for an early dinner, just after the museum closes around the corner. We had some chicken and prawn curries, bhel pury, tandoori mushrooms, with a few cocktails. Everything was delicious, service was friendly and fast. Recommend.

Jugnus Little India truly impressed me. The ambiance is fantastic, with a spacious layout that adds to the overall comfort. The food was a delight; we opted for the chicken biryani and tikka masala, and both dishes were flavorful with generous portions. What elevated the experience even more was the exceptional service. The lady attending to our table was thorough and attentive, making it feel like a truly refined dining experience. I highly recommend giving this restaurant a try.

We had a tandori platter to start with that was juicy, tender and full of flavour, including delicious lamb cutlets. We had for mains butter chicken that it waa smokey, buttery, juicy chicken and very generous with chicken. As well as goat curry, that even though it was indian hot (and i can handle a lot more spice), spice level was perfect! Just enough to warm your pallet for the flavout of the curry and delicuous goat meat where the blend just amplified each other. The service was amazing, making sure we were happy with everything throughout! Abslotely recommend ans will be returning soon.

Our dining experience was amazing. We were greeted and taken straight to a table. The food was incredible and had great vegetarian options. I got a butter chicken and I would say it is one of the best I have had in Wellington. The cheese and garlic Kulcha is the best I have had. It was full of flavour and light a fluffy. I would highly recommend Jugnus little India on Blair st.

Had an excellent meal here and Really surprised to see the negative reviews, though 4 stars out of 300+ reviews isn’t band, a surprising number of 1’s. Seems a bit heavy handed. Personally our food was delicious, I was grateful that they had a separate vegan menu as well as the meat menu. Ordered a bunch of things, Allo Gobi, Tarka Daal, Bhaji, Samosa, rice, Naans and drinks and it all came to like… $80 ish, which is pretty cheap IMO. Food was delicious, spice level was great, we were given options where applicable for level of spice and they were listened too. I’d eat here again any time and would suggest it to others. Really great meal for meat eaters or veggies alike.
