Good food (I very much enjoyed the chicken lab. The fish cake starter was also lovely.) and very generous portion sizes. A great place for a byo.
Tuesday lunchtime visit. I've been here before but it was a few years ago. I seemed to remember it was quite good... but couldn't be sure.
Whenever I go to a new Thai restaurant I tend to order their pad Thai For me this is a good way to judge how good they are. So many places get it so wrong.
So, I ordered the chicken pad Thai ($11.00). My friend ordered the Tom Yum soup. Which looked (and by all accounts) was nice.
The Pad Thai was nice. Good portion size, crisp bean sprouts. No chili on the side which I would have preferred but no biggy. Chicken a touch dry but plenty of it. Overall very tasty and enjoyable.
We had a BYO here last night, we got a few starters between the table - fresh Vietnamese spring rolls which were delicious and the others had a mixed entree which lists four options but only comes with one of each which they found a bit misleading. I had vegetarian peanut satay which was amazingly good, one from the group had peanut chicken which was also delicious and the others had curry or noodles which they all loved. The food all out fast - although it is a bit pricey for what it is (peanuts vegetables and tofu without rice) but is definitely worth it.
Rice costs additional but that's fine with everyone as its typical, corkage was about $5.
The staff were really accommodating they opened the doors for us because it was so hot and also didn't ask us to leave at the end - we were the last ones there and they seemed happy to let us chat.
I have been here a couple of times where we have ordered similar dishes each time.
Depending what you order, it can be a hit and miss. I ordered a Pad Thai, a basic staple in which I use to judge how good a Thai restaurant is. Unfortunately the Pad Thai that was served up was way below standard, where the noodles were over cooked and far to saucy - definitely not an authentic pad thai.

Service was quick and food yummy. Definitely go back sometime. One downside was the owners child crying, whom probably should have been put to bed.
What a great place to eat! Food was so fresh - could taste each individual flavour of the veges and everything was cooked to perfection, so yummy! Absolutely wonderful service - the waitress was friendly and very helpful with a beautiful smile. We were a bit unsure when we arrived as the restaurant was empty, but it was nearly full by the time we left. Would go as far as to say the best restaurant experience we have had and definitely the best Thai food we have eaten. Would go back in a heart beat, if only we lived in Wellington!
Portion is large. Value for money. Friendly staff. The only downside may be that the restaurant looks a little too dark and the location is a little remote.
Fantastic restaurant. The service is always good, super friendly and helpful staff. And the food is always delicious. The veggies are so fresh and the meals overall are always very enjoyable. I eat lunch here at least once a fortnight, huge plate of really great tasting fresh food for just $10! Would highly recommend to all.
We had an amazing meal and experience at Phu Thai Lanna.
22 children, 13 adults. We took our school group (as a special, cultural treat and experience) to share and enjoy a wonderful experience and kai. Thank you. Delicious kai, great ambience and wonderful table staff. Our tamariki and whanau loved it all!
We definitely recommend this restaurant and want to go back! Thank you all.
Overall a nice place to eat. Friendly and attentive staff.
Food was ok nothing special. Tom Yum Goon soup was delicious - nice and spicy.
Have eaten here a few times for lunch and would rate it as some of the best Thai in the city (which we are severely lacking in my opinion).
Meals were a decent size, ingredients seemed fresh and everything tasted delicious. And at $10 it can't be beat.
This place is great if you want the yummiest thai for a really cheap price in a relaxed and charming atmosphere, the waiters are really friendly and go out of their way to get you what you want. The ten dollar lunch specials are great value for a superb meal with beautiful presentation.
We really enjoyed our meal at Phuthai Lanna last night, having also dined at their sister restaurant several times. The service was very friendly and efficient, giving us just enough time to order and with our water glasses frequently refilled. The mixed entree is a great way to sample five different starters and will help us decide what to order next time. (We didn't take note of what each dish was called but particularly enjoyed the wonton and pork mince-style meatballs.) The Paenaeng red curry is a favourite of ours with tender slices of beef cooked in a thick red sauce. We also shared the Pad praew wan Moo, Thai style sweet and sour stir fry with pork, pineapple and vegetables. Our only criticism is that we were unable to order roti on its own to eat with the main course; it came with satay dipping sauce, which we didn't want but had to pay for anyway, making $4 for each roti quite expensive.
We arrived at the restaurant on a Saturday after 9PM as we had just finished working at an all-day event. There were only a few customers left who were just getting ready to leave, so we were wondering whether the kitchen was still open. We were in for a pleasant surprise. The waitress was delightful, super friendly and helped with meal selection. While the décor has seen better days, the quality of food totally made up for it. We had delicious Curry and Pad Thai dishes that were rich in flavour and had a nice heat level - just what we had asked for. That combined with the friendly service will definitely see us come back on our next visit to the capital.
