Reviews Fish N Chips On Tory

Fish N Chips On Tory have a comprehensive menu and the prices, in my opinion, are better than reasonable. But when I saw Gemfish on their 'Fish of the Day' selection that was it for me. The price may seem a bit off-putting at first, but when you see what you get for that price you will see that it is well worth the money. And for me it was cooked to perfection. The generouse serving of chips was absolute value for money as well. I love fish and chips and rate Fish N Chips On Tory up there with the best I've had from a fish and chip shop. I was with two other family members who were highly complimentary of their meals as well.

Wow, what amazing service from a friendly team. I had an unusual phone order for f & c for 28 children on a school trip from the Wairarapa.  Not only did Wellington turn on the sun but these lovely owners also gave us a ride back to Frank Kitts park with the food.  Thank you , Thank you.

Their deep fried Mars bar was the bomb #awsome 👍
So coming back here next time but the scallops could have been cooked for a moment longer! But still it was a nice and enjoyable meal #fishandchipsbro👌

Love their fish and chips!! ❤️ for $11.50, you can receive two large pieces of battered fish and chips including a drink. Located on Tory it's so central. Been there a couple of times and the lady who serves at the main counter is always so courteous. Great value meals.

This is a bit of a hidden treasure I feel, for the quality and size of the portions you get from here for such a cheap price it's got to be a Wellington favourite. GF is tricky as it would be at a fish n chip shop but ask the fish has no batter and grab chips and a hash-brown with other sides and you're good.

Why go to boutique fish and chip stores who basically over-price every item by twice its value, when you can buy the same quality and freshness here for half the cost? Good fish and chips, good range of classic kiwi sides.

What a great fish and chip shop. The crumbed fish was off the hook! I feel that a place that provides good value and nicely prepared food deserves a good review :)

Absolutely outstanding fish and chips. Every time we visit this fine establishment we are treated to crunchy chips, juicy moist fish, and lovely fat spring rolls.

But the true star of the show here is the saucy dog.
Simply put, 'FnC-on-Tory' do one of the best saucy dogs I've ever ingested. Hand battered by the staff, this dog is crunchy, delicious, and most importantly... SAUCY.
I usually struggle to wait until I arrive home before I start eating. And that's saying something because I only live minutes away. It is a testament to the quality of this hot dog that one of them has never seen the inside of my flat. It gets eaten on the street.

To the critics below who are giving bad reviews, I have this to say... Please ask your doctor refer you to a mouth specialist because your tongue is defective. The food on offer here is as good as you'll ever find this side of the equator and if you don't agree, you've gone wrong.

Thank you 'Fish-n-Chips on Tory'. Keep up the good work.

I love a good meaty fish with thin crisp batter and that's exactly what I got today, not a long wait, chips were however just a bit dry, not a huge chip fan myself its just always weird getting fish n chips and not ordering chips sort of pointless. Overall I am pleased and will definitely go back for more.

We followed up the tip in the Wellington travel advisor and gave this business a try. We were certainly glad we did! Served by friendly Stewart our party was soon enjoying deliciously fresh cooked fish, chips, battered oysters and scallops. Simply the best fish and chips we have had in NZ. The price paid was simply amazing value and Aussies visiting Wellington should have at least one feed here!

The best value family meal around. Chips not greasy portions generous premises clean. Service quick. Parking not bad can always pop into Moore Wilson's after placing order. The fish fllets did not smell fishy. Good selection of fish. Nice to children while we waited

Best in town - value and quality.

I have seen this one setting up for a while but I did not realise it had opened until today (Labour Day Monday).
I would not normally buy fish on a Sunday or a holiday, as it is not normally the freshest, but I was curious about a new shop not having found a good shop since Supreme in Hataitai burnt down.

I was really impressed. The fish was excellent, fresh and both the crumbed and battered was great. Other shops have crumbed just as good as this but this batter would be the best I have had in years.

We also had a hot dog and pineapple fritter, the pineapple fritter was a little small and I was a tad unhappy with this until I found they had given me two fritters – Excellent value and service.

I had a $2.50 coffee from a machine while the order was being made, better than I expected, in fact better than the some of the "real" cafes in town (and probably everything in Auckland).

Overall great food, the chips were well cooked and not at all greasy. The fish batter was light and crisp. Servings were the most generous I have had in living memory and the total bill for four adults and three children was just on $50, great value.

Obviously a brand new shop everything was really clean and tidy with bar stools and magazines to wait or eat at and a couple of tables outside. While still just opened there were no salads on offer yet – but this is just a good excuse to go back again soon to try some greens out.

Cool decor! Option to eat in or takeaway. Large serving size and decently priced. Lady at counter was so friendly and very helpful. Food wasn’t greasy and had a nice crisp bite. Awesome fish and hot dog. Had option to add 4 sauces (aioli, tartare, tomato and sweet chili). Will be back.

We ordered crumbed fish and loved it! Our friend got the fish burger and was thoroughly impressed. We also ordered the wedges, which weren’t what we’re used to. Really appreciate the owners being so accommodating and swapping out for fries. Perfectly salty and well cooked. Overall, very happy to have stopped in and will be back!

Best fish n chips I ever had!! You can dine in or takeaway. We dined in and our experience was delightful. We ordered a family pack for a family of 4 and there was enough plus some leftovers for the kids to eat later. Everything was tasty and fresh, biggest peice of fish I've seen in a long time.We plan to eat here again before heading back. Highly recommended!!

Just amazing!! No kidding, it was probably the best fish n chips I've ever had in my whole life! And it was only $12.50 two nice sized (and godly) fishes, one scoop of chips and a coke. If I stayed for longer in Wellington, would definitely go there every single day.

This is my favorite fish n chips shop. Price is relatively cheap compared to the quality and serving you are getting. Fish is rightly cooked with crispy and moist batter. Chips are great too. Shop owners are nice and friendly. Good food good place and good service.

Chips are gorgeous, fish is very nice, prices good but as we wanted to eat inside I was shocked with the way they serve your food. We literally good a paper tray with all our food together, paper serviettes and wrapping paper sheets to eat it from. Seriously!? Not even paper plates or cutlery. When I asked for plastic cutlery our family of 4 was given 3 plastic forks. Oh, and forget about sauces (on the table, like in England)... You need to buy those separately. But rating as 4 stars as food was worth it.

I go regularly to this place. I used to think Wellington couldn’t do basic fish n chips… not the stuff you get at places like Mt Vic Chippery, But good basic economical Fish n Chips. Then I found this place… its awesome! Sorry you can keep your overpriced yuppie hipster chip shops… this is the place for me !

The food is delicious and the staff very friendly. The only thing we didn't like was that they don't have proper plates to serve food. Although the pictures on the wall show all meals on plates, it's not quite so. We asked the staff about it and he said they don't have plates because it is a takeaway shop. But if you read the logo on the window it clearly says it's both dine-in and takeaway. Weird!! So don't expect anything fancy, but really delicious and generous portions 😉.

Great fish and chips. Batter is added to fish when you order which makes it so fresh and crispy. Homemade onion sausages are legendary and you won't get them anywhere else in Wellington. Always make sure to get some fish and chips here when visiting wellington!

People told me this was the best fish and chips Wellington has to offer and I didn't believe them... I was a fool! These chips are to die for, the perfect combination of crispy and soft, really really good. The fish was also beautiful and overall, the price was incredibly reasonable. This will definitely be my new go to fish and chips shop.

Fish N Chips on Tory is my go-to place for inner-city fish and chips. The meals are your classic kiwi tucker: delicious, slightly guilt-inducing, and not too fancy. Plus their burgers are decent too. The shop is clean and tidy and the staff are lovely. Highly recommended!

Fast, friendly and amazingly priced given how high their quality is! Their chips are beautifully crisp on the outside and perfect inside and likewise there fish batter is golden and crunchy and never leaves you feeling greasy like some other chip joints. I've been going there for years and they only get better with time. A pure gem!

Simply the best. Cooked perfectly. Not oily like other stores in Central Wellington. The piece of fish I got was huge. Chips were great too. Finally found a great FNC shop. Will definitely go again.
