Have been here a few times now and I totally love it!  The staff are really lovely and food has always been fresh and tasty when I've been.  I also really enjoy their home delivery through DineIn.co.nz which I use often.  :)

I've been here a number of times, and last night decided to give in to my craving for some fresh sushi/sashimi. Had some tuna sashimi, Pacific oyster sushi, crispy fish skin (by the looks of it), grilled beef (most likely rib eye), and some other items. Ingredients are as fresh as ever, and the skewered beef was a delight -- really tender and cooked just right, with a delicate flavour. Service was okay but I noticed that this time, the pickled ginger is now handed in a tiny sauce dish and I had to ask for more since it was literally just a few slices. Other than that, the setting has not changed in years but it's clean (except for the men's toilet which does not have any paper towels but they have an obviously very dirty white bath towel that customers are supposed to use! Red flag for health and safety with this one.)

Fresh sushi and a fun way to dine if seated at the sushi train, especially with kids. The staff are very obliging, and the takeaway service is also excellent.

I've been here only once but I got a very good first impression. It's certainly not the best but I'd say it's one of the best places to get authentic sushi. It's tasty and the price is according to its quality.

Amazing fresh sushi and food. We continue to come here week after week - we've come for almost a year now! The staff are so lovely always asking if they can cook you something in particular etc. always bringing sauce if you need it and (I always ask for more ginger because it's necessary - and water). Everything is delicious, except maybe the salmon dumplings but that's just a particular taste I feel. A++ we always go here. And you can watch it come out which is doubley exciting and you know it's fresh!

This is not the best sushi place in Wellington, but its certainly a brilliant eat it and beat it with friendly staff and an obliging chef. Although menu food is available the sushi train is the draw card. Sit down and select from the range of colour/price coded plates. Grab the wasabi off the train and mix it with the soy in the little bowl provided to give you the dipping sauce .... and ask for more ginger - a few slices isn't enough. Sometimes the simplest are the best, the salmon sashimi for example. The range isn't extensive but there's enough variety to satisfy the need for a quick lunch or after work dinner. If theres something you'd like that gone or missing, ask the chef, he's usually very obliging. There are many good sushi places in wellington, but Catch is probably the best of the trains, theres another in Cuba St..
Unfortunately there's nowhere quite like Shinobi Lounge (Vivian St, now Tequila Joe's) which everyone now misses but possibly didn't support at the time - a sad loss.

Love the idea of train sushi. They display the price according to the plate which is good. The staff greet us when we came. Ordered beef udon. Was okay. Too bad we were early (lunchtime). The yummy stuff comes out after i was full so i only managed to ogle them :( the chef (i think) even say thanks when were were leaving. They serve plain water with lemon in it (and the glass is huge) so i dont need to ask for a refill :)

I have been here so many times ever since I arrived in Wellington many many years ago and have never done a review of this place. Catch Sushi Bar clearly does well as it still exist after many years serving up sushi to Wellingtonians and is the only sushi train on Courtenay Place.

If there is something specific that you want, do not hestitate to ask, as I do this all the time and they do not have any issues making my request, such as salmon hand roll, or a fresh batch of agedashi tofu.

The consistency of their sushi remains the same through the years, though you may find some new sushi that is trending towards the local tastebuds.

Please checkout my website for an indepth review and photos.

I really enjoy coming here. The food is a reasonable price, the staff are friendly and helpful. The range of sushi and other Japanese dishes is good but I would have liked more choice for dessert. I will definately return here for the lovely food and service.

Sushi is one of my favorite foods. Sushi catch has the best sushi. I love it. The staff are friendly. You can not get better sushi. You can see what sushi they have cause it goes round on the train. You can just help your self to what you want. It's fresh and good. They charge you by the color of the plate. Go there. Best to get in early or you might miss out.

This is something different for people and in a way that makes it easy to manage your budget.

The Catch, whilst they have an a la carte menu, their main feature is the over-sized breakfast bar with the conveyor belt of endless food going round and round in circles, till someone decides a particular plate to their liking is their next victim.

With an assortment of sushi, including a wide range of raw fish sushi, tempura squid, spring rolls, chicken wings, rice balls, etc etc - you're never short on choice. Not to mention its made and replaced as quickly as it is taken off.

Getting the plates off the conveyor belt without causing a train wreck is for some people, almost as challenging as using chopsticks to eat.

Because of the way it works, you can walk in, sit down, eat and be back out on the street again within 15mins as waiting time is only as long as it takes you to make up your mind.

This is an ideal place for dining alone for lunch as you can try a variety of food without having to order 3-4 helpings of each kind.

In essence, its a bit like Yum Cha on a conveyor belt - but without the pork buns and sweet rice. You pay according to the colour of the plate, so expect to pay up to $15 for a decent lunch - which isn't too bad at all.

It is a narrow place, the seating not overly comfortable and its compact, with every likelihood of you sitting in amongst strangers there. It can get incredibly busy during lunchtimes so best to avoid the first lunch rush, or get there early.

When it comes to Wellington Sushi locations, I'll admit, I'm no expert. But Catch has been such a consistently good spot to get sushi that I'm going to make a big call and say it's probably one of the best.

Catch is a 'sushi train' style restaurant, where you sit up at a bar and choose plates of sushi off a moving conveyor belt. I really like these styles of restaurants as you can choose what you eat as you go, at your own pace and they generally have quite an impressive range of sushi on offer.

At my most recent visit the menu was mostly seafood focussed but with a couple of nods to other meats in the form of chicken rolled sushi and a beef tataki. They had a large range of sashimi circulating as well as a fair few fried options, like agedashi tofu and prawn twisters.

Heading in at lunch time we were quickly seated and had our fill.

Catch does feel a bit more expensive, as you pay by the colour of the plate the sushi is sitting on and it's easy to lose track of what you're having. But all in all it's a really yummy, fresh sushi experience.

Awesome little place. Not a huge selection of vegetarian options but definitely enough for a meal. The mochi was especially delicious!

I am usually not a big fan of sushi but this was awesome. It was my first time going to a restaurant with a sushi train. Everything looked so delicious! They charge by the plate so you basically just grab whatever you like the look of off the train and eat it. They the bill gets totalled up at the end by the number and colour of plates you ate. I was actually surprised at the cost. It wasn't the cheapest around but it definitely wasn't expensive. I felt it was money well spent for the freshness and quality of the sushi. Plus I had so much fun! I ate alot tofu sushi and some karaage chicken. The chicken was to die for! Highly recommend that! And the tofu is a great alternative for those with dietary needs like vegetarian or vegan. There were also other options i noticed; avocado sushi, deep fried tofu and beans. The restaurant is also family friendly. Kids love the sushi train! I saw quite a number of kids and even a new born in the restaurant. The staff are very accommodating and gave fantastic service. They also had a bathroom which was very clean and free lemon water. If you are wanting to park really close, try find a spot on Allen Street. It seems like all the parking in the city is paid. But it only cost us $5 for an hour.

A sushi train! Great selection of tasty sushi options being made in real time by the chef only metres away. Plates priced by colour. Highly recommended for quick, casual and great date or family experience, or even alone. It all works. We've been going to catch since the nineties, then with our kids as they grew up, and now just ourselves again, or with our now 20-somethings who still love it.

We found this gem with the entertainment book and couldn’t have been happier. A great selection of foods to cater to kids as well as adults. And very reasonably priced! $30 for lunch for three (with entertainment book 25%)

Owned and operated by Chinese but a very good place to have sushi train. It is actually better than most of the sushi trains in Japan. Price is on the upper end so please prepare to bring lots of money!

The food is amazing and full. But the dessert too sweet. The price is from $3 to $8.5. It very surprised they have oysters.

A great place for a quick, tasty, healthy feed. There is a good variety of dishes with plenty of salmon and tuna sashimi, and sushi, along with dishes like dumplings, edamame beans, fried chicken, spring rolls and panna cotta (dessert). Plates range from $2.80 to $6.50. We spent around $90 for two, which included about 8 plates and a drink each.

There's something so appealing about grabbing a bite to eat STRAIGHT AWAY. if you're time poor, this saves you a solid half hour waiting for your food. Not the cheapest way to eat sushi, but it sure is fun.

A little on the expensive side but generally worth the experience and everything seemed fresh enough. Easily the fasted moving sushi-go-round I've ever seen, you have to be quick for sure!!! The ginger is rationed out in small quantities by the staff here too, not sure why...?

$7 for thick salmon sashimi! Great and fresh. Appreciate the effort of making it looks presentable. Staff is very friendly too.

Good sushi and the comes past you quite quickly, so the options are fast-paced. You can ask for anything that might not be on the belt at the time, so that's also good. The seating is fixed down, and isn't comfortable for everyone. I thought it was good for a quick bite.

I love this place! The sushi is always fresh, especially the salmon. Great selection and super friendly staff. Will always come back. Definitely a little more expensive but it’s worth the price as the sushi is amazing quality and super tasty. <3

First sushi train I've tried but I eat sushi all the time. I was pleasantly surprised at all the different options and the very friendly staff. The sushi was good and my son and I enjoyed our lunch. It was reasonably priced not cheap but not too expensive. A great way to get a very quick lunch with a wide range of choices.

I am generally not a fan of sushi, but the Catch Sushi Bar in Courtney Place, Wellington, makes it fun. It provides a wide variety of food offerings travelling past you on a circular conveyor. You chose (catch) what you want and then pay at the end. The food itself was well prepared and tasty. The plates the food come on are coloured to indicate the price of the particular dish, so you can manage the costs yourself as you go. I would go again.
