The first time I have Chinese ramen in Wellington. Yay real dim sum and plenty of them. Lots of variety and all hot, fresh and luscious. You can be a vegetarian and find something to eat but to be fair it's a meat and fish heavy menu. Keep it guys, this place is a must stop by when in town, especially on a weekend.
Been going here for years and always a great place for yum cha. Faves include deep fried dumplings; prawn & coriander dumplings, streamed greens; ticky rice and coconut buns - all washed down with lots of Chinese tea.
Great Yum Cha!! The selection is excellent. We enjoyed everything we picked and there were so many more options that we wanted to try, but we couldn’t squeeze any more food in! We will be back soon to try some more dishes.
Just had dim sum here for the first time since 2010. What a revelation! It’s all newly decorated and looks very smart. The food was really outstanding. We ordered from the yum cha menu, which had pictures of everything. We’d come a bit late - 1:30pm on a quiet Wednesday, so a lot of the dishes had sold out. What was still available was so delicious. Some dishes we hadn’t heard of before, so that was exciting. All the steamed dumplings were great, and the deep fried things we don’t normally order were so good too. Not too heavy or oily. Can’t wait to return again soon to try more. Might be our new hangout!
We had a party of 14 for a yum cha lunch. We were lucky to have the place to ourselves before other tables were filled on a Friday. Everything was fresh that came out of the kitchen. Staff was attentive and good service with the plates arriving on trays rather than on hot trolleys.

Found this place while searching for a lunch spot for my wife, 8yo son and I, and it looked busy enough (everywhere is a bit quiet as it's a public holiday) so we dropped in for yum cha.
Service was as expected at a Yum Cha, dishes came around fairly regularly and staff generally knew what they had on the tray. Everything we had (prawn dumplings, scallop dumplings, roast pork, fried squid, pan fried pork dumplings, BBQ pork buns, crispy fried chicken wings and custard buns) was of a good quality, the dumplings had plenty of filling and weren't greasy, the chicken wings were crunchy and golden. The squid however had a thick batter (like you might find at a fish and chip shop) and was a little tough.
Some of the food wasn't as hot as it could have been, probably because it was brought on trays rather than steamboats, but it was certainly hot enough (ready to eat). Tea was topped up regularly and empty plates cleared.
Having read some of the less favorable reviews, I wonder if we got lucky or if my expectations are simply not that high. But based on my experience I'd definitely return here for yum cha.
Reasonably regular Yum Char spot for us and family. Pretty nice selection of more western but also traditional dishes, so you can get deep fried squid, chicken wings and such like but also tripe, cartilage and chicken feet if you please. Many good dishes and pretty good wait staff, friendly enough. I do feel sometimes you don't get offered some of the more traditional stuff so we really sniff it out as it comes around or as we see it at other tables, but in fairness many people don't go for the traditional stuff if its not part of your culture.
Love going here for their yum cha! There are plenty of delicious options, and they do the sticky coconut buns which are to die for! Can also recommend the Orange Beef main!
I have been twice to this place. I like their ambience I would give them a 4/5 for that . On service I would give nothing more than 3/5. The best dish that I liked here was their deep fried squid.
Went here for a flat dinner for peking duck and a few other dishes! Good food at an affordable price. The wait staff were very attentive, maybe because it was quite empty on a Tuesday night. Would recommend their green beans with mince pork and the 2nd course of the peking duck is especially nice! :)
We had takeaway from this restaurant last week, while staying in Wellington on holiday. Its was lovely food,brilliant service, friendly staff, meals were excellent. Would come back and eat from there again :-)
Went there today for lunch (22ND May) second time Ive been there and both times were excellent, great fast friendly service.
Even got ask what we would like after trying a few and brought that out within minutes highly recommend

Diner for six yesterday evening (Monday 6th Febr. 2012).
Starting from being welcomed by the Manager on entering the restaurant to placing our order after deliberating for 15 minutes and being offered assistance by our waitress and the Manager, right up to the quality of the food delivered, the wide choice of Sauvignon Blanc on offer and the polite & courteous service in the interim, the evening became an experience I would like to enjoy again soon!

This place was one that our family seem to always go to, I like the environment for a Chinese Restaurant.
It's very spacious, and the food has never been bad when I've gone, we've mostly always ordered from a menu here, and food was reasonably prompt. Good things Take Time, and I find a lot of the time at Chinese Restaurants, this is the case, no exception with the Grand Century.

easily one of my preferences for Chinese, and Easily one of my more preferred options for Quality Chinese.
Had dinner here as my 11 year old daughter chose this as her "birthday dinner" location. There were 3 adults and 2 children.
We were served promptly and the entrees started to arrive shortly after. The quality was excellent delivered all within the perfect time-frame for finishing one dish and being ready for the next.
The mains came out hot-and-tasty and without any kind of delay.
The waitress, once she discovered it was my daughter's birthday, made a nice effort and spent time chatting with her and making her feel special.
We ordered 8 entrees, 3 mains, 2 deserts and several non-alcoholic drinks with the bill coming to a shade over $150. The amount of food delivered could easily accommodated and extra 1-2 adults.
In planning a meal for my 50th birthday I went to several places to check out menues and prices. The Grand Century in Tory went straight to the top of the list. On Saturday 29th Jan 2011, my party of 12 enjoyed a wonderful evening. The staff were friendly and responded to the growing numbers with calmness and ease, the food was both high quality and high quantity and the atmoshere was conducive to just chilling out and relaxing. Some of my guests had never been to the GC before, but they all said they would be going back!
Busy much of the time, especially on weekends. Easier to get a seat during a weekday for lunch. Why is it so popular? Because the food is good, the place is light and spacious, service is fine, and their is sufficient variety to keep you happy. An alternative to the Regal.
We walked passed this restaurant and found it quiet. However, we were attracted by its brightly lit and welcoming facade. So we decided to give it a try. The dishes were amazing! The presentation and taste was over and above our expectations! We highly recommend this restaurant!

A Chinese restaurant worth trying, the dishes are great, for me, these delicious dishes are worth trying countless times.
Food was freshly made and very tasty other than a bit salty, waiters were friendly always with big smiles on their faces but the dishes came out pretty slow
Delicious Chinese restaurant with yum cha service during lunch and a la cart choices as well.
Come here with big groups of people and the place has many tables and seats to accommodate group. It also has upper stairs area with dining tables and TV.
We usually order steamed fish, corn soup, roasted and Peking duck, calamari, egg plants chicken wings and black pepper beef. Love the coconut buns and sesame balls, especially when they are freshly made.
There are some parking spots around the place but it might be a bit tricky.
It’s disability friendly for the ground floor.
Make sure you make your order clear and check the bill.
Really generous servings for $35 set menu. Fed 4 adults and 2 and could easily feed 4 more adults.
Great food that will fill you up in no time so don’t get too much . Be ware although they have a lot of pork food

Outstanding food quality!! Simple starters but every single one is so delicious. Prawn dumplings are full filled with whole prawn inside. Meat in sho mai are chunky, full of flavor. All of them are house-made, doesn’t like the normal cheap one with lot flour. Glutenese rice chicken is the best I’ve every try in NZ. You shouldn’t miss this gem in Wellington. Our first table booking was 5:30, but it’s cold, windy and rainy. We ask them if we can get in earlier and they are very kindly let us in. Very polite and great service. End up ordering too much food than we can eat, but seriously we will definitely come back again when we’re in Wellington. Highly recommend!!
The most satisfying chinese cuisine dinner that our group of 10 have tasted thus far on our NZ trip. Perfectly cooked, steamed and braised dishes. However, services extended to us can be improved by being more attentive and proactive...Overall, a recommended must try restaurant for Chinese cuisine in Wellington..Thumbs up for the foods !
My husband and I joined a celebration event of Chinese national holiday in this restaurant. Dishes there were tasty. We especially love their steamed blue cod and the roast duck. Steamed chicken was also delicious and they had great service too. May come back someday again for their duck.
This has been our favourite yum cha for nearly twenty years. Very pleased to g my ring a group here today for a birthday celebration. The team working were so helpful and really helped make the celebration special.

Love coming to Grand Century, its my go to yum cha. I have always received a great service and great food. Dumplings are so delicious and the mango fish and coconut buns. Most favourite is prawn pancakes
Really like the black pepper beef and the sichuan pepper chilly chicken, very authentic!
Hotter than I expected! If you cannot handle too spicy dishes, recommend you let the chef know to reduce the chillies! We were treated by some coconut buns! So yummy!
Booked a table for 8 for Sunday Yum Cha. Street parking was easy to find but was surprised to find that you needed to pay for Sunday parking. They knew of our booking and led us straight to our table. Yum Cha service was prompt and polite including prompt removal of used plates etc. People at the tabled loved the Egg Plant and squid…Egg Plant was crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle and squid was tender and both were flavoursome. Other items were OK. I have had better Yum Cha and will probably return to my favourite place next time.
