This restaurant is so beautiful it is big and spacious with so many places to sit, for big groups, romantic dinners, memorable moments with friends or just delicious dinners alone, however it is the Ethiopian way to share meals with family and friends and to become closer through eating together. There is a cozy mezzanine level lit by fairy lights with cushions by the window so you can relax and unwind with those who mean a lot to you surrounded by sacred Ethiopian artworks, baskets and colourful cloths. This restaurant is run by a woman and her lovely daughters so your presence is supporting an incredible family of good kind welcoming women who have given everything to come to this country and bring to you the flavours, music and culture of their family so you can have a completely unique experience that will most likely blow you away. Every Wednesday they have a glorious vegan buffet feast which is also a feast for the eyes, with candles and about a dozen different dishes most of which are Ethiopian curries served on soft very healthy ferented injera bread and you are welcome to help yourself and choose how much you would like, these people are very generous. The choices are Misir Wot-red lentils and onion, Tiklil Gomen-carrot, potato, cabbage and onion Kosta-spinach, with onion, garlic, carrot, potato and tumeric, Duba Wot-pumpkin, with onion, garlic, Ethiopian chilli and Ethiopian spices, Kim Wot-light curry with yellow split peas, with ginger, I onion, garlic and turmeric, hummus- chickpeas with garlic, lemon, tahini, Eggplant with tomato paste, garlic, peanut, lemon, and Ethiopian spices, Popcorn (traditional in Ethiopia), Salad, Rice...and all this is presented with candles and by very friendly grateful good people who would love your company. There is often enlivening Ethiopian music on which makes you want to dance and helps you create memories to last a lifetime with the people you love and want to eat with the most. There is also Ethiopian tea available served with lemon as well as a range of entres for people who may not want to spend a lot, like lentil soup filled with spices served with lemon for only $3! Using your hands to eat the injera bread to scoop up the curries means a special connection is made with your food that you may not have experienced before, it helps you access an ancient and sacred part of your brain and can transform eating into a spiritual experience. The vegan platter is one of the best dishes on the menu, it is an impressive selection of curries each with such a unique flavour that tastes wholesome, and each curry served on the injera bread has the ability to heal the body and restore vitality (when sick this meal was very nourishing and it was easy to recover after receiving the love that went into making this good food). The water they serve is chilled and everything is always given with joy. The experience of coming to Blue Nile has been life changing and so have the conversations been which were had in this warm inviting honouring atmosphere.
Great food, friendly service. Its a must try if you haven't tried Ethiopian food before. Needless to say, they have an array of vegetarian and vegan options without compromising flavor! Would happily visit again.
Such a fabulous place- took 17 friends along for a birthday dinner, the food here is super delicious (and a total dream for vegetarian/vegan). I always grab a plate of Blue Nile food from their stall at the Newtown Vege market too. We were spoiled by the gorgeous staff with coffee, candles, laughs, plus a spontaneous dance floor! Thankyou! 💛
I love blue nile! Ethiopian has quickly become one of my favourite cuisines! The people here are so friendly and they were quick to tell me all about their menu as I had never had their food before and wanted to know what was the best! I love this place and the pricing is incredible. So give it a go next time you go to dinner!
Nice meal and very friendly service. I will visit again in future. Highly recommend it

I visited several European cities and dined in Ethiopian restaurants. No one tastes exactly like HOME except Blue Nile Giessen
