Oh Wow. We went into the restaurant and ordered from the restaurant menu. I ordered the Saroupa Chicken., And the Tabohli Salad. For parsley lovers a must have. Beautiful balance of flavours. My chicken was so tender, moist and full of wonderful flavours. The whole dish was like eating at the table of a King. It was amazing. The service was great and the place clean. Worth every penny.
Stopped in for a lunch, was working around the corner for work and just felt like a quick and easy kebab. I opted for the chicken salad (being gluten free) so just the same stuff, but on a plate like a salad, brilliant! The meat was tender and tasty, sauces were nice, hot sauce wasnt overly sweet which was nice. Overall happy, and would head back there again and recommend you give it a go. Service was good too, friendly but not over bearing.
I was basically wondering around clueless not sure where to go for lunch. I ended up near Sahara and decided to give it a go.
I ordered a chicken kebab $10.00.
Got all the salads and some jalapeños. Yoghurt and Hot Chili sauces.
Kebabs are pretty straight forward. They are either good or bad. This was really nice. Nice chicken. I'm not a fan of the pre-cut chicken that steams in a pot and turns a bit sloppy. This chicken was good. Nice texture and some gnarly bits. Fresh salads and a good kick with the chili.
Thoroughly enjoyable.
Gorgeous, authentic middle Eastern food. Great to have takeaway or sit in option for the same price. Definitely thankful to have been able to sit in and eat our takeaways with the cold weather outside. Staff are friendly, food is fresh and prepared right in front of you.
Fifty meters from the embassy in Courtney place there's a nice man standing next to a slowly turning stack of lamb in a place called Sahara. A few quick slices, a falafel and salad - all secured in a wafer thin wrap and aluminium foil. You can eat it there or take it away as you want - same price.
If you like middle Eastern food and you're hungry and in need of a quick bite - maybe just before or after a movie at the paramount or embassy, or simply because getting trolleyed in Courtenay place is less likely with something solid inside you, then this place isn't half bad.
My only difficulty was managing to eat the tail end of my wrap without getting lamby, garlicky, yoghurt all over my hands and clothes - but for me that's not unusual.
Plenty of seating
Good quality
Nice staff
Warm cosy ambience
Kid friendly
Recommended for a super-fast, tasty bite.
The food was really nice. The prices are good. $91.50 for 2 starters, 2 mains and 6 drinks. Great flavours, and generous servings. I take off half a point because I need to save if for absolute perfection.
Excellent food and service at Sahara. Ate in and their meals are huge. Would highly recommend and will definately be going back. Staff are very freindly and am looking forward to our next visit to Wellington so we can head back there again.
I ate at this cafe very recently with my daughter who was visiting from the UK. We had a shared starter and a main course each. The food and service were excellent. Portions were very generous. Staff were friendly. I'll go there again and I'm planning to take my wife along this time. She couldn't make it the other day!!! Looking forward to the next visit.
Best Kebab I've had!! Friendly service, great prices. Highly recommended.
I love the kebabs at Sahara - they beat any other on Courtney place. Friendly staff and same price to order a kebab and eat in on the tables rather than takeaway.
I have previously been there for dinner which was all good also .. but I rate the kebabs better!
Friendly and mindful stuff, everyone is very nice and efficient. Generous portions, good quality meats. I love adding zucchini to my meal.
Immutablty delightful. An institution since way back and one of the great kebabs of Wellington. I always have a great meal here.
Do it.
Love the whole vibe, the man is so serving and giving.. definitely a go to from now on!!
Wow! That was SO nice! The food was very yummy, as well as being well prepared and presented. And the staff were friendly and very helpful, as well as courteous.
We dined in the restaurant, ordering from the restaurant menu. (I noticed some people buying from the takeaway counter and then eating in the restaurant area).
I ordered the Sahara Grill and Garlic Pita, and my wife ordered Apple Tea, Saroupa Chicken, and Tabouli Salad. They were all very tasty.
The only downside was that we didn't have room for dessert! 😊
And for what is was, the price was reasonable.
We are looking forward to dining here again.
Located at the heart of Wellington City foodies scene, which also boast of having great urban cuisine.
We had a very nice and memorable meal here. Great Iraqi food served, with dates, hummus, char grilled lamb and other typically delicious Middle Eastern fare. The portions were a little bit small, like the interior of this restaurant. Or should I say, cafe & takeaway should be more applicable. But the great tasting food more than made up for the loss, saving the city's reputation.
Been getting my kebabs here for over 20 years.. my last was today. Delicious. Love this restaurant on Courtney 👍👍
I first went because I loved the decor. I've gone back twice because I love the Kebabs. One of the top kebab shops in Welly. Worth checking out!
I enjoyed the warm beef kebab wrap on the cold winter night. The dressing was just right.
been here only after a night put, but always had a good falafel. also the staff is very friendly considering the type f guests they have around 4 am
Food and environment friendly baklava was delicious
Beautifull environment
I must have been lucky to go there on a good day. The guy was so friendly and cheerful. The food was nice. I would go again.
