Rainy days at he beach are the best! We stopped at Makara Beach Cafe for lunch. Not only did we enjoyed the delicious fish and chips, but we had a beautiful view! The staff are all so lovely, friendly and welcoming and the service super fast. The atmosphere is cozy, makes you feel right at home . Strongly recommend Makara Beach Café to locals and tourists when visiting Wellington. We had the fish, salad and chips for $24 and my little one got the Bacon and Egg burger for $12 and a scoop of yummy ice cream for $4. They also have a indoor play corner for the kids.

Just had a lunch (10 of us) with three generations of family at WhareKai. It was a very welcoming place, lovely food, good prices and friendly people. Without asking, the children's food came out first so someone knew how to keep the peace! Fish was yummy and milkshakes got a big thumbs up from the teens.

The fish and chips is a must. Beautiful place with a gorgeous view on the beach. Very decent decoration for such a local cafe. And of course the staff is extremely friendly and welcoming. Very well done 👍🏻

The experience we had didn’t take in the full cafe but I’ll tell you that when we were ordering fish and chips to takeaway, the menu looked fantastic, the atmosphere was lovely, the staff welcoming and attentive and customers leaving were being very complimentary. For us, we ended up with the perfect windy Mākara beach experience - a howling northerly, a moody sea and a feed in the car watching the water. We had battered fish and sausages which were both delicious with a crunchy, light batter and the fish seemed incredibly fresh and nice and firm. A side of perfectly cooked chips and a few cans of fizzy complemented this perfectly. Please understand that as of writing this, it’s the best battered fish I’ve ever eaten. Worth the drive, worth braving the wind and a great afternoon.

A cosy, comfortable cafe you can bring your friends, family or partners to. There are lights, seat pillows and a couple of blankets for a nice romantic or cosy breakfast/lunch/dinner, sitting amongst heaters. There is even a ping pong table where you can play. The food and coffee was delicious. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Definitely recommend

We had a very nice lunch after our walk on Makara Beach. As well, my decaf mocha was dark and rich, but not too sweet.

Friendly welcome and quality Burger selections. They have excellent venison pies available and candy bags for a treat. Incredible beach atmosphere, you can smell the beach from the door. Wonderful!

It's like stepping back in time. Good old fashioned relaxed beachy Cafe, just like they used to be. We had the chicken burger and was delicious! Husband had the mussell fritters and they were good too. Great coffee! The staff and owners are welcoming, friendly and relaxed. And yummy ice creams to walk on the beach with.
