Our family of 3 went to the happy hour afternoon available at Oyster and Chop on Sundays, for a relaxing family afternoon. Our *French waiter was that good I had to write a review, from beginning to end (read on for the ending)…👇
The cocktail of the day was a raspberry gin (Gin is my favourite) and I asked him how was it served. He explained it in detail from glass size to flavour, and my trust in our waiter was formed.
We are fussy eaters and have different tastes and preferences. Our waiter was so patient, polite and read the room. He accommodated us without it feeling like a problem. (This I find is very rare hence why I mention it).
Overall, our waiter and host honestly went over and above with making sure we (including our 7 year old), were not only well catered for and advised, but treated us with such an amazing service that was so friendly, professional plus when we need to through in a curve ball where Miss 7 requested for larger sized paper to draw on with the pencil case of crayons provided as soon as we arrived ✅ simply said “we will make this happen one way or another” with a big smile.
We find a lot of restaurants don’t take our recommendations seriously for our daughter or her requests to them seriously, and when it comes to special requests ie child friendly plates, plastic glasses etc, when you want to have a nice day out - this extra care and thinking ahead provides a completely relaxing experience for all involved.
She also wanted to learn French on the spot and was not as shy as she normally would be in similar situations.
Now - this is super important and why I wanted to right this review.
There were 3 other tables that had patrons who we could see were either tourists or wanting to have a nice afternoon lunch by the water. Our waiter accommodated for each of them in exactly the same way, patiently, individually, and you could see everyone was smiling.
Another table arrived, who we all observed as unequivocally entitled, curt, arrogant and wow - so rude when he politely and courteously mentioned that he was accompanying a party to the main restaurant first and then will be straight back to assist them in a short minut - they tried to strip him down in front of everyone.
Everyone noticed this exchange and were all notably horrified at the way these particular people spoke to him.
After exchanged glances, we all suddenly felt protective in some way and our focus was on this couple and our favourite waiter.
The best part of it all? Our favourite waiter took it with absolute grace and professionalism, continued to serve them as he had us.
Our family noticed in between times that they laughed before he returned to their table which just took the cake.
We (my husband) reminded this particular table that treating people in the service industry in this manner was not only much a reflection on them, but that we had the most amazing service, and they should be disgusted at themselves.
Everyone else nodded and agreed.
If you want to have gorgeous food, in a relaxing environment and have a waiter who clearly loves their career, has respect for themself and everyone around them - we highly recommend Oyster and Chop for happy hour oysters and cocktails.
*I noted French so that Oyster and Chop know who I am highly recommended and if you have the pleasure of going to Oyster and Chop and being served by him.
Great place. right by the harbor. Recommend for the seafood platter. Fresh and tasty, beyond expectation big portion. Helena, the restaurant manager treat us with outstanding service. It was an absolutely delightful dining experience overall!
