We got totally fried at Al’s Deli.
We nabbed the only balcony seat in the house - good start - and spent the next three minutes debating whether it was Al Brown’s deli. Turns out it isn’t.
We’ve come to sample arguably the best Tuesday special in Auckland on paper to see if it is as good as it reads. It’s called the ‘Duo Down’ and it’s a less offensive KFC Double Down comprised of two deep fried (to perfection might we add) chicken thighs with bacon, cheese and a sort of bechamel sauce. This thing is nectareous! It’s a word, look it up.
The “sandwich” on Tuesdays is a mere $15 and comes with a side of hand cut fries just incase summer means bulking for you. The whole plate can’t really be faulted; the chicken is exactly how we like it with crunch and flavour and bacon is always welcome, at all times, every meal. The bechamel does thicken when cold but that’s just an incentive to dive in rather than waste time taking photos like we do.
The wings were as good as buffalo wings are expected to be but we’ve had better. Just go hard on that blue cheese sauce. It’s a good thing they don’t charge per napkin too cos we use about 19 each.
The balcony seat backfired when we got a face full of smoke at one point from a vent overhead. Maybe just sit inside.
Overall: 4/5
What we had:
Duo Down Tuesday Special
Buffalo Wings Side With Blue Cheese Sauce
$28
Al’s Deli donuts taste just as good as they look, super fresh and delivered by Ubereats!
They are also really massive and can be easily shared among the office, these were definitely a hit!
