This used to be my Sunday Yum Cha go to after browsing the Takapuna Sunday market. Love the buzz in the restaurant which is filled with a lot of local chinese as well as Kiwis who have got into the habit of a morning yum cha. The venue is old and looks like its in need of a bit of a reno but the food is authentic and good. Though more Chinese in style and flavour rather than typically Cantonese like the yum cha restaurants that you would normally get in Hong Kong.
Like:
1. The huge variety on the push trolleys that come around - everything from roasted meats, to side dishes, porridge and desserts. Also has an ala carte menu that you can order specialty dishes, noodles and rice from.
2. Portions are generous so this is a good place to share and have a group meal as the portions are good, generous and meant for sharing.
3. My favourites are the fried squid, congee porridge with century egg, the rubber band or soya sauce noodles, the prawn toasts, the roast cha siew, roast duck, har kow, siew mai and cheong fun.
4. Also love a good mango pudding or custard tart for a sweet ending. Their mango pudding could be more like what we get in Hong Kong, served with the evaporated milk on the top but I guess this might be the way its prepared in China rather than HK. Also I did not see Tofu Fa on the menu or did I miss that.
Can be slightly pricey but for us, a once a week indulgence especially when we miss the convenience of Chinese food.
Very nice place to visit. The food was delicious. Big servings. The staff were so friendly. Excellent service. We will definitely be back! A lot of food choices.
