I've always been a bit partial to Greenland bakery. I started coming here several years after they won their coveted pie awards.
Apart from the fact that the awards are many years ago now, I quite like their pies. However that said, I don't think they can still be considered 'award winning'. Their not bad but don't stand out compared to other pie places.
Probably the most I can say regards their pies is that they have several flavours not found elsewhere. For example Pork and kumara.
This is my second visit in two weeks. The Eggs Benedict is amazing value for money ($14.90 including a free coffee!) and utterly delicious. Clean, great service, good ambience / background music - and they also make amazing pies too :)
Went on a recommendation from a local friend as a place for above average café for brunch. We both ordered Eggs Benedict, mine with Smoked Salmon and hers with ham and two hot chocolates. I wanted to have a Monin soda but was told they were out. It was quite small and busy when we went but were able to grab a table before the rush. It was a bit tight as the middle tables with chairs are almost back to back with the others and on the other side is the cue to grab pre-prepared pies, sandwiches, and baked goods. Even though it was on the busier side we still got our food timed out together pretty well and it was pretty good overall! The hot chocolate was more on the warm milk side than chocolate but still balanced well and the eggs bene was delightful on a hungry stomach. The smoked salmon was a great choice with it and Im glad the bread the salmon, eggs and hollandaise sauce was on was not soggy in the least. I also enjoyed the pesto spread artfully around the edge of the dish. Overall, pretty pleased with my experience with the food quality and timing of the dishes. I recommend it as a decent place to stop at for a quick bite or a sit down when not too busy.
