Went here as a result of its good result in this year's pie awards (bronze for the potato top, I think it was). Was surprised to find that it's more of a sit-down eatery and coffee house than a traditional bakery. Plenty of parking out front. Ordered the steak & cheese and Mum the vegan for lunch that day, and the mince & cheese and steak & mushroom for reheating another day.
Both steak pies tasted unpleasantly of pepper. I didn't order pepper pies, I wanted to be able to taste the steak! By all means season, but season to enhance the flavour of the filling, not override it! The steak & mushroom was the better of the two, better texture on the steak, heaps of gravy, nice large slices of mushroom.
Mum enjoyed the vegan pie. The mince & cheese did not have the pepper problem, and the mince was of high quality. Both cheese pies had quite a bit of visible cheese (though I always want cheesy things to be even cheesier).
I don't understand why pie makers seem to think that the lid of a pie must be flaky pastry. It does nothing for the structural integrity or the taste, often tries to lift off during baking, and always always makes a flaky mess. But if you don't mind that, and don't mind surprise pepper, then Copenhagen Bakery is a pretty solid pie option.
Brilliant Bakery !! I enjoyed my food and coffee here in the morning :) Fresh food and drink ! highly recommend!!! I will definitely come and visit again
Love Copenhagen Bakery, ordered a chocolate milkshake, pastrami sandwich and a pie. Everything tasted good and wasn't too expensive. Nice areas to sit in the bakery, great place for a quick coffee date etc.
