Simple and unassuming from the outside, comfortable, well-lit and uniquely decorated on the inside. Witty and clever names for everything, just like the name of the place.
Good presentation of delicious food and very generous portions after the delicate & delicious entree when you order the Mr Gig's Banquet.
It’s one of our favourites in the city, true hidden gem and must try! Food is delicious and tasty, service kind and attentive, atmosphere and ambiance is welcoming, a well deserved 5 star find ! Few vegan options and all of them super yummy. Recommend trying tofu spring rolls and green vegan curry, but the everyone’s absolute favourite is Vegan Bahn Mi , which is die for and best Bahn Mi in the town. Vegan green curry is also super delicious. Staff is just extraordinary too , very friendly and accommodating. Atmosphere and ambience is very chilled down and restaurant is stylised as the typical Vietnamese restaurant with nice decorations but wait that’s not all. On Fridays and Saturdays nights only there is a surprise waiting to find in the back room, behind the dry cleaning, through the back doors (follow restroom signs). You will be completely mind-blown! There awaits authentic Chinese hidden bar ! Decorated with absolute attention to small details it’s a rare sight and looks and feels like old movie. Well done owners for creating this amazing place !
15-20 mins walk from Christchurch city central.
We didn’t make any reservation and turn up at 5:30pm, cozy seating and good ambience. They have around 10 tables with seating from 2 to 8. Good spacing between tables
Nice selection of food options, we chose pho and bahm mi. Same for drinks, wide varieties
Pho arrived piping hot soup, flavourful with lots of ingredients. Especially the chicken, it’s like alot compared to what we usually have. There is a small slice of lemon, make sure you squeeze it to bring out the refreshing taste of the soup. Bean sprouts are well cook no raw taste 👍🏻
Opted for pork belly bahm mi, served hot toasted bun that goes crispy. The sauce is good, it’s spicy like wasabi not chilli spicy (if you get me). Sauce is good match with the veggies and meat. You don’t get the too much meat feeling after diving through this. The veg and the sauce just balance the oiliness of pork belly (it’s fat but nice).
Almost forgot fresh spring roll, we LOvE it! Other half is not fond of prawn so this make him happy. It’s well balanced proportioned ingredients of tofu, vermicelli, mushroom, carrot and veg. The sauce is tasty, with grounded peanuts in the sauce and extra side dip.
Service is good, they came to our table couple of times to check in on us. Very attentive and cozy. I do recommend this place for their Vietnamese food.
