What a gem in James cook arcade, we stay at James Cook Chancellor hotel, was later for dinner and found this small shop below the hotel, wife order a small beef ramen and surprise at the generous amount of beef in the delicious noodle. Me and my son order 2 teriyaki chicken and rice off the shelf at around $10, chef told us we can use the micro wave to heat up... Didn't expect too much and surprise surprise the teriyaki chicken and rice so delicious :) strongly recommend this tiny gem and yes the food are prepared by Japanese chef too :) My family have visited Japan many time, we appreciate good authentic Japanese food, this tiny gem is worth the visit !
We were in a rush and heading out of town (we were parked at James Cook) and needed a quick 'on-the-run' lunch.
Closest place was Wasabi Sushi in the James Cook Arcade. Reviews said 2.5, but I have had sushi here before so I wasn't too fazed.
Most of the sushi was $1 today (5 year anniversary or something). I grabbed a good selection (8 pieces). $9.70.
Each piece was bite sized. The Takoyaki was a touch salty but nothing drastic. Everything else was tasty and satisfying. Pleasantly surprised. Enjoyable. My partner thought so too.
Not a bad little out of the way spot for sushi... they do a decent range of tasty cheap sushi but also have a wonderful looking range of udon noodles dishes.. no rice noodles though so gluten free or coeliacs need not apply.... which is a shame because even in central wellington those options range from about $4!... worth a try if you are on lambton quay. The staff are really friendly and there are a few tables to sit if its cold out.
