Last night I dined at the lavish eatery that is 'Kebabs on Queen' located on the tantalising Courtenay Place. As I entered the store I noticed that the music blaring very loudly was absolute crap, some kind of death metal screamo stuff, now don't get me wrong, it's absolutely fine to listen to that in the confines of your own bedroom in complete solitude, but it really didn't help me to digest my lamb kebab combo w/ chips and an L&P. Of course, I ended up "having a go" at the white boy behind the counter who kept changing the songs from one screaming war cry to another, halfway through a vocal stabbing. It was all to help out, because the last thing they need is more angry customers, I gave them some good advice that went something like this "heEy im just saying yuu guise shouldn pley such FUckING shitTy musiC, plaY some shiTty Pop musig or somfing, NAH nha I'm just saying cos that stuf is cRAP" Alcohol + FUckING shitTy musiC = an unhappy Chadwynn making a very informal complaint. I give 'Kebabs on Queen' a 3.5 out of 5, because the lamb kebab was unbelievably delicious.
Having come back to the Terrace for work after a year at the other side of town, it's been nice to revisit some of my old eateries. Today, Kebab on Queens.
I do like a kebab. I always order (as I did today) a Chicken kebab with garlic yoghurt, chili and sweet chili sauces, with all the salads.
They are prepped pretty quickly, placed in the heater before handed over. The staff are friendly and I find them consistent.
The kebab was tasty as always, only slight grumble is that it wasn't that warm today, but it was still good.
I prefer to eat them rolled up, but have learned that it's best to use a knife and fork on a plate when at work... this avoids the undignified battle to fit the last bit in your mouth without getting it all over your face when you reach the end.
It also prevents the sauces splurging out all over your fingers leaving you smelling of kebab for the rest of the day.
At $10.00 it’s reasonably priced, the flavours are there, the chicken is good (although I'd prefer it was carved off the spit rather than taken from a heating pot, pre-cut), the bread is soft and fresh and the salad crisp, with plenty of it.
There are a number of sauce options and you get to choose up to three.
A nice lunch.
Generally consistent tasty food which isn't badly priced for central Wellington. The main improvement would be to order management. Make use of a numbering system instead of calling out the order details. It's confusing and leads to people taking the wrong order. Give people a plastic number card and write the number on the packaging ☺
